Marvelous interview. My father was in the 29th Division , 116th . Your gentleman helped answer some questions I had too. In the 116th, the vehicle could not come in as close as described so he came out of the landing craft carrying his rifle over his head. The water was chest-high. That would correspond to the later time before the tide came in.

let me pause for a moment to acknowledge the awesome way that the interviews on this channel are conducted. i have watched many interviews and documentaries on ww2 and, in my opinion, this guy does the best. rishi sharma, you will probably never see my comment, but thank you for doing these. ty not just because it is so important to record these men's stories while we can, but also for the attentive way you listen, the way you ask specific questions that conjure poignant anecdotes and enlightening details from these veterans' memories. ty for your humble appreciation of the person you are interviewing rather than trying to steal the stage yourself. and although you stay in the background, it is clear that you are an extraordinary person yourself. cheers to you! and to your future success!

    32:28
32:50 they were stepping OVER mines
The GIs, all moving, to meet and make battle against the enemy, in numbers, caused the enemy *to* *retreat*
But men *died* moving ahead, *advancing* right through the MINES. 33:01

The huge pillbox. Anyone who moved was killed by the machine gun.
He asked, aloud, "we need help".
    31:57
Then at that very moment he witnesses a United States Naval *destroyer* move *right* *alongside* the beach itself and obliterate the pillbox to smithereens with 3 volleys of 5.5" gigantic Naval Gun shells.
    *Direct hits*
This Veteran saw this 1st hand with his own two eyes.
