Demise is a fun boss because it dosen't test the mechanics of the game, its an actual swordfight with almost no gimmicks, which means its really easy since you no longer have the shackles of the motion controls weighing you down

    30:20 I beg to differ about Ganondorf popping up in TP. Zant CONSTANTLY reminds Link that his power was given to him by a "god" and it gradually becomes so much clearer then who that person is. Ganondorf already appeared after the 4th dungeon. We know who he is. His shit-eating grin while he's sitting on the castle throne is so satisfying to see, like seeing an evil mastermind reveal himself after diddling with the protagonist through a puppet.

    I feel they could have made an intelligence attached to the master sword so much more interesting. It could have had a great character development as well. It’s a sword, a tool, created for the purpose of defeating evil. That is the only thing it would care about at the beginning, chastising Link when he takes time to help people with their troubles. As a tool it wants for use, purpose and nothing else. But as the story advances it would see and learn it has a use beyond the destruction of evil. It learns that it can be a tool for healing and renewal. Reuniting loved ones and restoring things to right. That’s completely in keeping with the themes of the Zelda series and may make the character more interesting when it pops up to say something, doing so in an impatient tone at the beginning and then becoming more compassionate as you progress. Any thoughts on that?

      This is good! they could have totally done better. They already did a really good job with Ghirahim's personality, so why not Fi? If they still wanted the type of personality she has, they could have made her a stoic soldier type. It fits the sword motif, and would probably make her less annoying. Honestly thought, if she just didn't show up as much, even that would have made her so much better. I love Fi, but I can totally agree with almost all the complaints about her.

    • @__idfk__
      @__idfk__ Před 3 měsíci

      I think it would've been cool if she was more of an opposite to Ghirahim in terms of personality. Ghirahim is flamboyant and over the top, so I think, as another commenter said, Fi should've been a stoic soldier type or maybe even just starting out robotic, then developing more of an actual personality throughout the game, but still being generally reserved and calculated as opposed to Ghirahim's big theatrical personality. The most personality she ever shows is at the end of the game where she tells you "Thank you," and even then, it's still very robotic in how she says it. While I wouldn't say that her robotic personality doesn't work, it's not as interesting as it could've been.

      Sorry for the novel comment but people need an open mind with this game. And too much is overlooked in both the pro and con department. There is a HUGE problem with Fi people often fail to notice. But when you notice it, Fi is far more enjoyable. And that is Fi is 2 characters. Fi the tutorial, and Fi the actual character. When Fi is being a tutorial, she repeats things that don't need repeating, which is probably already one of the biggest complaints of the game. However, Fi the character is amazing. She starts off super robotic and only does things as she commands. But as the game goes on, she shows irritation, happiness, and relief. Not a wide spectrum but for an ACTUAL robot, pretty good.
      It angers me people treat systems with the same mindset when they are clearly meant to show either progression (N64 to Gamecube) or an entirely different experience. (Wii and WiiU even if its the same experience) I mastered the motion controls quickly because I was not going in of the mindset of "I'll spaz press buttons which worked well in ocarina of time" which is a mindset that SURPRISE exhausts people when playing skyward sword. I am referring to those impatient people that fight Stalfos in Ocarina. You've seen them don't lie. And to those playing in condensed spaces, I played in one too, and the realignment works just fine, and over the top motions are not required. That being said I think buttons would be better for flight and swimming. And flight could have upgrades to be WAY faster along with night flight.
      The story is great and I found myself genuinely caring for even the sidequest characters. They may be fetch quests but yeah, at least it leads to legit character development, and you can choose how to complete it as an asshole or a good Samaritan. (Or in the case of Peatrice technically both) And I love that. Heck there could even be an option for MORE than that. If remade, the life medals and extra heart pieces could be removed for more sidequests.
      I see the flaws of the 3rds and more challenges could arrive with workshopping. Imprisoned, there should only be 2 fights. Introduction, and a combo of the other 2 for difficulty. And for the love of god don't go for the toes, do the bomb stun and get him up top. Some other bosses need work. Scaldera, Tentalus, and Moldarach. Ghirahim is amazing though and I love all 3 fights front to back along with Demise. Levias should not be the only sky boss. There should be several. If the cloud barrier loosened every temple beat making more monsters appear up in skyloft, that would provide stakes. People other than Groose should settle on the surface overtime. And BOY does the game need a day/night cycle which would be beautiful. Stamina I can manage no problem, but should also be able to be upgraded to show how much more endurance Link has gotten other than health.
      Temples are GORGEOUS and don't need appearance change, but mechanics could be improved on. Other than Sky Keep and the sacred flame temples. Those were all spectacular. The 1st 3 temples need a bit of work.
      In the long run, if Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild combined strengths, that's the perfect video game. Great combat, open world with constant stuff to do, making you care for the most remote characters, and just great variety across the whole game. Zelda has all the lessons it needs to remain the best that Nintendo has to offer.

    Unpopular opinion: Skyward Sword is actually one of my favorite Zelda games of all time BECAUSE it's story-heavy. I love how this origin sets the stage for all the other games in explaining why everything is how it is in the Zelda games and delivers it through an emotional and deeply meaningful monomyth about a simple boy who becomes a hero not for glory's sake, but because he wants to save his best friend, whom he's grown to love. I loved how FINALLY Zelda and Link have a meaningful history together and relationship and that they actually play off of each other as characters rather than being just the Hero and the Princess/Goddess-chosen who just so happen to bump into each other on these adventures. The story and characters make this game when no other elements really do (except for the spirit realms, which while terrifying, are memorable and a breath of fresh air).
    With all that being said though, I definitely feel like Skyward Sword is a one-time-only game. It doesn't really work as a replayable game because it's not the game-play or mechanics that are fun or interesting, it's following the story and once you know what happens, a lot of the player's interest is lost. (I feel like the same thing could be said about Breath of the Wild since the mystery of the uncharted territory and amnesia are already solved after the first time playing through).

      Well I struggled, and it's super awkward. I'm really good at blocking!😁 I know it would have taken quite a bit, but I wish they had an original leftie control scheme! That's ignoring *over* 12% of us! (prolly higher, as I'm sure other lefties like Link as well!) The motion controls themselves work very well but the set-up can be hard at times. It uses the gyroscope mainly but that makes many people forget about the pointer functionality which while not used directly serves a very important secondary role. The Wii remote plus doesn't really have any way to center itself and relies on the pointer bar to do it. So you need to have the pointer bar well set up otherwise the center of the motion controls can drift. Which makes it less responsive and less accurate.

True, the objective is the same every time, but by making him progressively faster/more difficult while adding the Groose features, I stayed interested. Besides, even from the first encounter I felt there were a number of ways to combat him, my favourite being to use the whirlwinds to launch Link into the air, then diving onto the Imprisoned's head in real time. Doing this is a very effective way of taking him down, but if you miss the landing once or twice you're likely to lose the fight. Since this was my preferred tactic the later fights seemed to offer me more variation, seeing as he would usually knock you off his head and force you to stun him from the ground instead, while working together with Groose. Very immersive, cinematic and quite tense encounters!

    My biggest problem with the Zant twist was that there was no buildup for it; it came in out-of-nowhere at the last-minute (and that's because it *was* put in the game at the last-minute). Ghirahim, interestingly, solves that as well: there is a lot of buildup to the reveal that he's the Spirit of Demise's Sword much like Fi is the Spirit of the Goddess Sword: his clothes have a diamond pattern like Fi, he has zero mention or appearance in the opening narration despite being Demise's second-in-command (but Demise's sword makes an appearance), and before the last battle with him, he refers to himself as, "A demon- nay, a *weapon,* without mercy!" as he briefly turns into a sword and back again.

      @MetalliBucket Před 5 lety +55

      There's a big difference between jokes that are distasteful and tasteful, necessary and unnecessary. Try seeing it from the point of view of the deaf person. How many times do you think a deaf person has been told or asked to try not being deaf "jokingly" knowing they can't even if they tried? Or wished they could hear, only to have other people make jokes like that?It's different when you're the one with the disability. If you can't see that, you're probably not very funny. Good humour takes empathy and understanding. Oh, and if you really think that you can't be a dick if you're joking, you're objectively wrong. There are plenty of jokes to be made that make someone a dick, be it because of the context the joke was used in or because of the joke itself. Have you ever struggled working on a subject in school, say math, asked for help only to hear back "can you try being smarter and understanding this faster"? Is that funny? Is that helpful? Nah b. And that's with something you can actually change (unlike a disability). Get over yourself and don't group me in with others when you didn't even think about what you're saying.

    "It's refreshing coming off the very obtuse progression of Ocarina of Time which at one point requires you to bomb a goron in the goron city for a fire tunic, no one tells you to do this nor are you ever expected to bomb a goron before this point."
    While I may agree on most points made throughout the video, you are incorrect on that one because of two things:
    1-You are never required to bomb the son of Darunia to get the goron tunic, you are able to purchase it from the goron shop for 200 rupees.
    2-A sign in the goron city tells you that you able to stop the rolling goron to receive a prize "If you can stop my wild rolling, you might get something great. -Hot Rodder Goron" This however, refers to when you are a child, stopping this rolling goron gives you the upgraded bomb bag.
    Seeing this as child Link, might make the player think of a few things. With their limited inventory they might try standing in its way or shooting it with the slingshot, or using one of the bombs that are scattered through the city. Nobody tells you to "bomb" it but a creative player should be reasonably expected to be able to figure it out.
    So thinking of a creative player that explored the world reading and interacting with the signs and npcs, it should be reasonable to expect that they will be able to remember bombing that bigger goron and receiving the bomb bag to now bomb the smaller one for another prize.

      1. While the first point is technically true, the Goron shop is not open in the future until you talk to this goron, so a new player who didn't get the hint to use bombs to stop him would be forced into walking all the way back to the Temple of Time, change back into a child, walk all the way back to Death Mountain, get the rupees necessary, buy the thing, then walk to the Temple of Time AGAIN, change into an adult, and walk back to Death Mountain AGAIN. That sounds like a beyond tedious and painful thing to do in a Zelda game (or any game for that matter). This also doesn't even account for the fact that they would have had to figure out how to get the wallet upgrade.
      2. You said a "creative" player should reasonably be expected to figure it out, and I suppose that's fair. As someone with quite a bit of experience playing games, especially from the 90s, Ocarina of Time does hint at the solution quite well, albeit in a sign that is easy to miss for people who are impatient. But what about the "non-creative" player? The six year old who's playing his first ever video game and has little bearing on how videogames even work? I know a lot of people who gave their kids some older games, and their kids are absolutely terrible at basic critical thinking. Hell, even some of my older friends who I gave Ocarina of Time to had little idea as to where they were supposed to be at times until I gave them hints myself. You could say we're spoiled nowadays and that makes it our fault that we expect too much hand-holding, but I don't think that accounts for all of it. At least some of the blame has to be put on how the game itself handled these things and how they didn't age well compared to modern standards. Breath of the Wild tells you next to nothing about puzzle solving, yet all of its puzzles feel organic and can be solved rather simply if you just contemplate your options or pay attention to the environment. Most of Ocarina's puzzle solutions are hidden in text boxes that take minimal effort to find, and very infrequently can you ever get a solution by paying attention to your surroundings or context clues.

    So here I am, after having bought the game on the switch last night. I’m actually really intrigued on how they adapted the motion controls into analog. I never got to play the original and am looking forward giving it a try. I’m going to try and play through all the main games in the series before BOTW 2 releases.

    This was my first Zelda game as a kid and I loved it. For me, the motion controls let me pretend that I was actually fighting which was amazing to me at the time. I see why other people might not like the motion controls. When I was little, this game both terrified me and amazed me. Looking back at it, I still love it and hold it as my favorite Zelda game.

    My opinion on the controls of this game is that they are good, really good, but that they have a steep learning curve. It's much easier to master a tradition button mashing combat system than one that you have to actually move your entire arm/hand correctly. I have found that I thought I was moving the wiimote a certain way and then looked down and realized that I wasn't actually doing it the way I though I was, especially with the stab attack.
    Also, my auto-correct tried to correct "wiimote" to "Wikiquote". Just though that was funny.

    Even though I hate things in this game like Fi, endlessly repeating slow text boxes, and a barren sky, this is one of my top 3 Zelda games. The combat is just so much fun! Best combat since Zelda II. Also, Ghirahim is one of my favorite villains in the series as well.
