We check-in and arrive about the same way every time. Online check-in two weeks before arrival and check-in with the guard when we reach the parking gate. Sometimes our room is not ready until late afternoon and sometimes we get the "ready" text before we have even parked the car. Looking back years ago, we would check-in at the front desk, which I believe was only an advantage when our assigned room was not ready, we could ask if there were any rooms that were. As far as "room requests", we get what we want a lot more often than not. We have placed these requests with Member Services and also with "TouringPlans". I'm not sure which is more effective, but I would suspect Member Services to be closer to the room allocation process.
I would say this has a lot of things that need to happen for it to work. You will probably never get your room that early if someone was in it the night before. But you will have to do this to get the room earlier. We recently had a stay at poly during Easter week and got our room at 11. We had a split stay and where at bay lake the night before and badged in at the security shack and parked in the morning and then took the monorail to Epcot but since we badge in we were in the system and got the message while we were at Epcot.
We have done both with the app settings location on all the time and going to the parks at the wilderness lodge! We have not noticed it helping getting a room quicker. However, time of year seems to be the key for early room entry!
I can TOTALLY see the time of year playing a role!
Thank you, I was wondering if maybe staffing could be some of it. Also, be careful, it looks like you are starting to get a whole in your jeans. BATMAN!
Yeah, I definitely think that staffing plays a role not only in this case, but also in the way that Disney operates as a whole. That's an entirely different conversation though. I will say this. . . . I think that the staffing situation [whether it's cause they can't or won't find enough people to do the job] is going to continue redefining the "Disney Experience" moving forward.
What!? Hole in my jeans? NO! 😉 Built in air conditioning! 😂
Agree. Air conditioning Ha ha ha
I would assume the big variable for this is how quickly housekeeping can get the rooms ready and how early departing guests leave.
Absolutely!
I don’t think there is any rhyme or reason to getting the room early. Sometimes I do sometimes I don’t no matter if I scan at the gate or parks. One problem I have run into is issues with split stays where my new room after staying at the previous will be available and I will have the room number but the door won’t open using my magic bands or cell phone I always have to get a key at the front desk. There explanation is that the system gets confused with split stays 🤷🏿♂️
I agree. I don't think that there is any rhyme or reason. . . it just happens how it happens when and where based on the circumstances at the given time and place.
To date, we haven't had any issues with our MagicBands during split stays. . . . BUT have run into issues every now and again when checking in at some resorts regardless whether or not it's a split stay. We ran into this at OKW most recently where MagicBands didn't work at all so we went to get a key from the front desk.
So I am at WDW a lot, I checked in today and as soon as I scanned my magic band at the gate I received a message my room was ready. Time was about 1245. Who knows?!?
At the end of the day, I think that it's hit or miss. While I don't think it's impossible for this to work out, I don't think it's any more than coincidence.
Have an AMAZING trip!
