Oh my god eric lamaze has so much talent. Look at how he got Stix under control before each jump! Certainly something NONE of us would be able to do!
R.I.P Hickstead, you were such an amazing horse!:(
@horseobsessed23
if a horse didnt want to jump it, they wouldnt. You could tell every time Hickstead walked into an arena that he LOVED to jump. He put his heart and soul into every round, if he didnt want to, there is no way he would put in the effort that he did. just like some horses are born to run, some horses are born to jump. Hickstead was one of those. He will forever be a legend in the show jumping world! RIP Hickstead! Thankyou for showing us what a little unwanted horse can turn into
Siii
Nice Video. Especially nice trubute in light of his demise. RIP Hickstead!
Sii
What a noble athlete RIP Thanks
It was out of the blue! Hickstead was NOT that old. This is not just the riders dreams it's the horses too! He was bred to jump! Jumping is a natural thing for him! Do you know what kind of conditions they are cared in! Hickstead's stall was comfier than your room! His accident was one of those "you don't realize it's there before it's too late!" He's now a legend. A legend that no horse person will forget the name of, Hickstead!
That was a great horse! Rest in peace.
Merci pour ses beaux souvenirs !

this song suites him so good, fuck i wish hi didnt die :'(
show jumping horses are treated like VIPs, like the stars that they are and the riders love them dearly. The SJ horses love there job otherwise they wouldnt do it, believe me when a horse doesnt want to jump, it doesnt jump. Heart attacks can happen to people as well as animals randomly. Rest In Peace, such a tragic end to his fab career.
BELGIUM
not but air. i smile at each jump idk why
Rip.. omg so sad :(
@terucha1999 yes,sadly he is :(
he died during fieracavalli show in verona italy few weeks ago during the jumping
@mercedesmarinful FYI, these horses are treated like *STARS*.
In the hands of god
@MEBRGIRL thank you you are so sweet. thanks
@mercedesmarinful Have you look at the pictures of Hickstead there is no fear in his eyes he loved to jump, and if you know anything about showjumping you cannot make a horse jump if he doesn't want to. He died from a heart attack which can happen to anybody, it just happens.
Addio Campione.....='(
@xWendiy
@RabbitTips101 Hickstead did not died from an accident , he had a heart attack which can happen to anybody.
@kreabis Ok my problem isnt with Lamaze and his rought life, but if you insist : He exceed one million in prize money a year, a third of these earnings came as a result of winning the CN International Grand Prix at Spruce Meadows, so showjumping of course is about money, and its ok ! thats not the problem..... mmm and about drugs Lamze received a four year suspension after testing positive for cocaine in 1996. And again tested positive in Sydney games...
rest in peas
@shrekandlottie4life do you know what is climax??? its when you are at the top in maturity , training , strenght.. what this means is that after 11 a horse starts to decrease gradually because its a natural process... blame mother nature not me. And this doesnt means you cant compete anymore but you have to gradually decrease work and stress.. thats all i am saying. If you cant understand this like many trainers its not my fault. Saludoooos!!!
The horse at 3:02 is not Hickstead I think... Hickstead had two white socks (at his right front leg and left back leg), and the horse we see hasn't O_o
un gros ***
a dieu petit champion
@kohlanihawk004 I said horses start to get old ... so they need to low the work... gradually. thats all
@horseobsessed23 you have obviously no experience with horses, especially jumpers. They aren't forced. You can't force an animal that big to do anything. It is a team effort, a partnership of trust. Many horses love to jump and Hickstead was clearly one of them.
@mercedesmarinful Many jumpers are just getting started at Gran Prix level at 11, you are way off saying he should have been retired long ago. 11 is NOT old for a horse.
his barn name was stix?
rip
really...look how hee jags him in the mouth at 1;44
@mercedesmarinful i know that, but he didnt do it for the money, is what im saying, but u know money is nice, id like to have money myself, but hickstead is one of a kind. like big ben was. u dont get horses like that anymore, so to see eric's favorite horse to die in front of him is deaply heartbreaking. thats what im saying, i have had a similar event, my horse was big and clumbsy and he hurt himself, and of course my ded sent him to a slaughter house, he never told me that til 3 years later.
@mercedesmarinful
You have no clue. Hickstead was not overworked nor drugged. He was the reigning number one jumper in the world. He received excellent care and his age is typical for show horses. Showjumpers don't make much money nor do they have celebrity status despite your delusions to the contrary. Drugs are illegal in Olympic sport and it isn't safe to ride a drugged horse in the first place so no one with half a brain would do it. Especially over jumps. Coronary Aneurysm was COD
@RabbitTips101 jajajaj take it easy, relax jajajaja i am not blind but maybe you are... of course bad things happend but you can try to avoid many accidents. And his heart didnt just stop beating.... Aortic Rupture happens beacause of a big effort that the heart just cant handle... In humans this happens in car accidents so imagine the kind of effort for a horse if we compare. I am not trying to offend anyone but lets stop being romantic .
@mercedesmarinful 15 isn't that old for a horse ...
Really!!!!?! so you personaly saw Hickstead´s medical exams ? A show jumper climax age is at 11 years , then as any leaving creature in this world they start to get old , so you must start to lighten their work and stress.Hickstead had a magnificent career, in my opinion he had already deserved retirement a long time ago. but, its only me. i dont have so much ambition in my blood to expose my horses like that.....
La terrible nouvelle vient de tomber. Hickstead s'est effondré après son parcours à Vérone: Crise cardiaque.
Nous perdons un grand champion :'(
@mercedesmarinful You can't be in showjumping unless you have a horse.. Why would he mistreat his partner? Do you know Eric Lamaze personally? Uh no.
je parle de celui qui n'aime pas
Hickstead is death?? D: ?? D:
zo kutt!!!!!!!
Just because a horse can jump, doesn't mean he was born to do it. Frogs were born to jump horses are bred and taught to jump. Just like any sport, it takes ALOT of practice to do this. If a horse was born to jump, all horses would jump this high and there would be no sport. With that being said, I also think we ask way too much of them including jumping 6 foot fences. We push them so hard while we sit on their backs. This horse should have been retired like his gut feeling told him.
Eric loved hickstead and hickstead loved to jump. Eric would never overwork or drug a horse who was more like a best friend. He did not do it for the money either. This was a video in memory of an amazing horse and you had to add negativity to it. Shame on you
@mercedesmarinful are u mental? eric had a rough life, he used to be a drug addict, and he transformed into a great person, he wasnt greedy, not did he force that horse to do anything! that horse loved to jump. and to retire him, u would kill him, because he loved his job! my friend has a pony, she's 27 and she beats all the young pony's in competitions. so i dont see wats wrong, a vet says it is good to keep animals going, it good for them!
@mercedesmarinful
Oh to be as self righteous as you! You purport to know a lot about horses and about how Hickstead was treated, but you give yourself away Shame on YOU!
Certainly one of the less appealing show jumpers. poor horse
