This happened because of the players' strike that canceled the previous season's World Series. Had there actually been a World Series played in 1994, then it would've aired on ABC. Likewise, the original plan would've called for NBC to have the 1995 World Series all by themselves.
But in the summer of 1995, just prior to the All-Star Game and the official start of The Baseball Network's second season, ABC and NBC announced that they were backing out of their revenue sharing joint venture with Major League Baseball (that replaced CBS as the main network TV package) come the end of the 1995 season.
The initial plan would've called for ABC and NBC to cover three World Series each through the 1999 season. ABC would've gotten the World Series and Division Series in even numbered years and the All-Star Game and League Championship Series in odd numbered years. Likewise, NBC would've gotten the World Series and Division Series in odd numbered years and the All-Star Game and League Championship Series in even numbered years.
It was decided that as a means of making up for the cancelled World Series from the year prior, ABC would get at least of portion of the 1995 World Series, which otherwise, would've gone to NBC. This was also done as a means of salvaging whatever was left of the now lame-duck Baseball Network deal.

127:35 ABC mayve backed themselves into a new creative promotion (in their last World Series). For game one, the had Jeff Foxworthy who coincidentally is a Braves fan and his show would've aired on ABC that same night. Then Drew Carey's show wouldve aired on this night and Carey's seen sitting in the audience. Foxworthy was seen sitting at game one at Atlanta. BTW< his show would move to NBC the next season.

I miss the old AL / NL separation. The game sucks nowadays all due to money.

Doesn’t suck at all. That’s your opinion. It’s still enjoyable to me
