- That's right! I did what not many people have been brave enough, or dumb enough, to do. I lifted my 2006 Subaru Impreza NA/T Wagon 3 inches using a set of Maxpeedingrods adjustable damping coilovers!
Check out these links! @MaXpeedingRods.

Hey man, don't listen to the hate. You got balls. And you learn a lot by doing these things your own way. Respect
Another option would be to put on Forester coilovers for the same model year as your Impreza. That way, you wouldn't need the strut spacers and you'd get around 0.5 in drop and up to 2 inches of lift
True forester coilovers and possibly new bigger tyres is the simplest lift mode.
I’ve been running them on my 2000 forester for 10k miles no leaks yet still work good! They’re a great option for cheap while you save up for a real good set eventually
for 200$ more you can get raceland so just save up
Very good! Thank you for bringing us such a great video!👍👍
I always wondered if you can get coilovers and a body spacer and this answers that. I want to add more lift to my Jeep Compass so I’m hoping if I do this it all works out. Great video!
Gotta say, i was glad to see you get some more threads on those bottom brackets, go easy for a while until you know the suspension is up to the job.
Thanks for the video, I’ve been wondering if you could lift as well as lower with coilovers!👍🏽
Heyy mann I appreciate the knowledge 🙏🙏!! You inspired me to turbo my subie. POST MORE SUBIE VIDS!!
I installed some of these on my TDI about 5 years ago, I hated them lol!!! They were clanky and you shouldnt have to grease up coilovers. Cheers for you working hard tho man you are trying things on your own which is more rare than you think
They may be slightly smaller but one thing to remember is the stock suspension is soft so it compresses more with the weight of the car, thats why you got a 3" lift in the front with the 3" spacer
Dude keep up these videos
Good job. Try thats how you learn
I had raceland coilovers on my 2.5rs and within 6months they were blown and the ride was awful. They literally would give me lower back pain. Went to to oem red KYBs and eibach lowering springs, and they've been one of the best driveabilty mods and have lasted well over 3 years now. I recommend getting bolt on forrester struts and bigger spring for a better lift. Those maxpeeding rods are only good for a few months then their junk especially in a offroad setting. Learn from my mistakes and invest in something that will last. They're so cheap for a reason
Any thoughts/interest in building a cool bobber...any make/model/size ?
GG get up on that rust before it gets the best of what's left... Good job. I'd still suggest a alignment check just for safe measures.... Tires aint free ya know... Lol I just sounded like my old man...😆😆
That would be a good video for him to make
@@Marco-qe5zw I tried body work a few times... Ended up with a better income source to pay someone else to do it... 😆😆
The classical music is so relaxing and really calms me when I get frustrated when working on motors...always watch your vids when I’m building❤️
Honestly the biggest timesink is either needing another tool, wrong component (the online market is crazy), and the biggest one is just plain incompetence of not knowing what the hell that thingy is but now it's super hard to put it back together
Would of been better to put the spacers on the stock struts (the piston is longer on the stock struts) and returned the new struts for longer ones. I'm looking at Forester struts with rally tech springs 2" lift. Longer travel than stock, but lower spring perch both the same, max tire size would be the same. Looking at flat out suspension for 2" and more lift!
What about the rear trailing arm?🤔🤷
Looks good bro, any chance you could give me the part number for those coil overs.I have the same car and want to lower mine.cheers
Obviously it has been fine, but generally you should have more than 1" of coilover in the lower strut body, preferably at least the width of the coilover body. Also the torque spec on the strut bolts is about 150 ft-lbs, so you definitely didn't get there with that small ratchet, but obviously that has been fine too. Just figured I'd let you know. I was able to get about stock ride height by leaving 50-55mm of coilover body in the lower strut mount. Great video!
Have you tuned your subie since you've done all this work?
Hey bro, can you describe how much rougher the ride is with coilovers lifting your hawkeye wagon? I have a hawkeye wrx wagon and would love another inch of lift. I really dont want to get spacers, just use a coilover lift
You gotta laugh 😂 N/A scoobie race car 😂 😂. Anyways what you over looked is the difference in compression between oe part and after market. coils are always allot stiffer. Didn’t need the lift hence the crazy camber looks like it’s flying through the air and the wheels are looking for the road to land . Every day is a school day 👍
Are they still up because I’m thinking about getting some for my car, or are there better ones for the lower price of 500
I like the car and bike format, i do the same.
stock suspension on any subaru is very soft. so that wasnt your real ride height when you took the stock ones out. it was maybe 2/3 that height. those coilovers are very stiff in comparison so the shock wont compress as much. id be willing to say you lifted it way more than you thought you would.
My man here turning camber plates into caster plates lmao
Forester sg coils are bolt on and usually way longer. ✌️
Haha surprisingly they still work as camber plates, I had to adjust it a little bit but it didn't make it into the video.
These are Forester coils installed? They pretty long
@@bakihanma7247 no, but he could've used Forester coils. I used WRX coils on My Forester to get it down 😅
@@JTmoto does it ride rough with Impreza coils.? You think an Impreza with Forester coils would feel smoother cuz the weight difference..🤔
@@bakihanma7247 It was adjustable in terms of spring preload and dampening, and could've ordered different stiffness springs for it too. They're literally same coils with a different preset in height and preload. (Which was my point anyway) the weight difference isnt that big either.
These are lego cars all-round, which is great.
I think they're well worth it
I have been running these coil overs in my forrester for 50 000kms so far, still work mint. Money well spent.
So I want to make my future car 3 to 5 inches higher , is it safe with these coilovers
just a quicky did you tune the ignition timing ? cuz na usually has way more ignition advance than a turbo car I presume your tables are around 22 degrees btdc @ 6000 rpm
No I didn't but I need to. It kinda freaks me out to mess with the ignition tables
@@GoldGuyRides yea it is scary but not impossible
@@GoldGuyRides you could just do a new table
15° as base timing to like 11 or 12 ° at WOT and boost
That was cool! The link doesn’t work though!
What about the stiffer feel on a forest road?
Will you do bodywork on this Impreza? He def is it worth! get rid off all dents and rust, would be nice!
Yeah definitely! I got some fender flares for it, I also wanna get a lip for the front bumper and maybe something on the back. Then I wanna either get it painted or wrapped, not sure yet.
@@GoldGuyRides what colour? Rally blue?
I was told trying to use lift spcers with coilovers is very dangerous and not good to do. did ur coilovers come with stabilizer links/rods and did they fit?
I don't know who told you that but I've been driving my car like this for about 5000 miles with no problems and no my coilovers didn't come with any stabilizer rods.
@@GoldGuyRides actually people at the companies that custom design and fit coilovers. i've contacted a few directly and asked about using lift spacers in conjunction with coilovers and most said it wasn't safe or a good idea.
@@GoldGuyRides oh so ur car doesn't have stabilizer rods at all ok. I have a Honda lol
Yeah Subarus are way different
You should get an aftermarket ecu so u can turn up the boost
I don't need an aftermarket ecu, my stock ecu is tuneable and I am in the process of tuning so that I can turn up the boost. There will be a whole video about it soon.
If you lift it more go with a slightly larger tire or wheel
Curious how these have held up. Any noises and does it ride well on the highway?
I am so surprised by these coilovers, they are great..still smooth 1000 miles or so after the install. It rides great on the highway, no noises. Much better than stock.
@@GoldGuyRides Great to hear! Now I just need to figure out which ones I need for my GH. I'm going to get forester coilovers to get about 1.5" lift.. hopefully
How have they hold up?
is it a manual or automatic?
Is this the 1.5i impreza?
I want to lift my Honda Civic 2010 without using the coil over. Do you have any advice?
Just get some spacers my guy
Hawkeye d best
How much does it cost to do this at a garage and pay the garage guy
FIRST! I always wanted to do that...
not worth it.
Did you upgrade the sway bar and sway bar bushings after?
Nope, been driving it like this for a few years with no problems.
@@GoldGuyRides nice, saw these on ebay for 260 with taxes. They are the non adjustable dampers version however i believe. Think i will pull the trigger as your video is the only one ive seen thats been this informative
@@GoldGuyRides how have they handled bumpy dirt roads?
It's definitely a bit rough but it's not bad, feels more like a rally car than the stock station wagon suspension
if you dont want to lower your car whats the point of coilovers then?
He probably wants more of a rally stance so he can take it off pavement and put bigger tires without rubbing/bottoming out
Using cheapness on critical patrs is daring
Do u know if they would fit a Hawkeye sedan
Yes they do
Wanted to turbo my subaru but no one around me wont do it
They all say do a wrx engine swap
a stock EJ will only take 5-7psi of boost. you're better off wrx swapping it. listen to professionals.
So no-one has actually swapped an engine in. Its way easier to slap a td04 on low boost on it than to go through a wiring nightmare and still do most of the work you were going to do for the NA/T conversion anyway. Net gain +-0
Research, research, research. Then ask yourself if you should just trade your car in for a wrx and go from there. 💁♂️
@@JTmoto exactly. and often in a swap one ends up having to source all sorts of components not originally thought off, that's why people use donor cars. It's a lot easier to go NA/T.
@@densmaish5586 personally i think its always easier to just get the turbo platform from the get-go. If you can hold a welder and you're up for it, sure - do the NA/T conversion. Would never go through the hassle of swapping, unless i had like a classic coupe NA impreza and a rusty pos wrx as a donor. (and that wouldnt be a budget build either)
New sub and follower here. Awesome. I’m getting an 07 Hawkeye outback tomorrow, looks like yours. So it looks like if I buy these, I’ll be able to lower mine up to 3 inches? Perfect fit? Ima make mine a reliable and good looking/ sounding daily. I really wanna lower it and put an exhaust on it. Also, ur link on the exhaust video takes me to Walmart for some reason
Yeah man you can definitely use these to lower your car up to 3 inches. I updated the link lol
@@GoldGuyRides thank you sir
@@GoldGuyRides the link still takes me to Walmart. It’s the video where it’s called “stock to subbie rumble”
How is it to drive? I thought the DBW sucked hard but I got a windbooster throttle controller to fix it. Something was up with my intake too so I put a CAI on it. Would love to turbo it but I'm right hand drive so not the same...
Dude, you have no idea what your’re doing... do you? 🥲🤣 That’s why I follow you 😏
Will these fit 03 forester?
They will be way too short for a forester. You'd have to get spacers if you want to mount any coilovers unless you want to lower it a whole bunch.
If you lift it more go with a bigger tire or even bigger wheel...
This dude for sure watches @CrisFixIt
Nice wheels 🤮
