    I'm stunned by how much this improved my Chord Qutest. Believe the hype. This must be engineered incredibly well because it delivers something truly special to my system. I've spent hundreds on cables and interconnects but I wish I had taken this plunge earlier. Get your source perfectly right and everything downstream gets a chance to shine.

      But isn't it soft of crazy to spend significant $$ on something like this? It really should be built in to the product.
      I had a similar experience with the MSB Link Dac long ago. Some enterprising companies came along with dedicated power supplies, mine was named Monolithic MPS, and... well let's just put it this way -- I would sell just about any other component in my system but never sell that dedicated power supply! It made that much difference. MUCH more than any cable. It seems insane but the ears don't lie, and you really need these things.

      I bought the sbooster and the ultra for my Auralic Aries Femto and the difference it made was so significant that even my wife was shocked and she rarely pays attention to the things I put in my system. I a/b it for her and I can say with absolute certainty that it was a shocking difference. It sounded great before so I was reluctant but a friend convinced me and I'll never go back. It's just that good!!

    I added the Sbooster 16V and the sbooster ultra to my Auralic Aries Femto. Holy Moly, the difference it made was so significant that i can say with certainty that it was the most audible change ive ever made to my audio system in a single purchase. Outside of speaker upgrades, it was the best decision ive made. Forget the minute differences of interconnects or power cables.....this was a godsend. 😊

The MKII added quite a bit of sound improvement over the ifi ipower, but when you add the iFi DC iPurifier2 to the BOTM Eco MKII you get some SERIOUS synergy. I seriously suggest trying this, you will hear it. I too have a 25k+ USD system and the improvement was very noticeable for $100.

    Hoi Hans.

    Thanks for this review. It would interesting to hear your thoughts on the Paul Hynes SR4 linear power supply, which is gaining great favour among audiophiles, including those running SOtM equipment. I use an SR4 to power my tX-USBultra with great results. It is usually compared to the Uptone Audio LPS 1.2, with many preferring the SR4 to the LPS 1.2. The SR4 has variable voltage - 5v, 7v, 9v and 12v - with 2A continuous and 20A transient on all voltages. Available from Paul Hynes Design.

      I wanted to get the sBooter for my microRendu at first, but they were out-of-stock for a long time so I got the iFi instead. It sounded fine but there's still a switching noise in the background (not a hum, a buzz). A friend suggested me to try making a battery power supply. I got the same ones used inside the Hugo to power my microRendu, 2 sets of 2 in parallel. I found it much cleaner and dynamic than the iFi but, I don't hear any noise? Quieter than the iFi anyhow. Thanks for your reply! Now I can order the new MK2 for comparison!

    Thank you for your review, this is a very interesting product. I came close to buy one in the past but i chose an Ifi power supply instead for my Odroid C2 with Volumio. I am still considering getting one, specially now that the newer version is available but i wonder how much the power supply matters considering i use a usb isolator between Odroid and my dac that re-clocks the signal.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  Před 5 lety

      I have found the influence of an audiophile power supply to be greater than that of a USB isolator. And reclocking is very critical and should be powered from a clean PSU too. Furthermore, affordable 'purifiers' don't do the same as for instance SOtM and the like...

• @austinpop
    @austinpop Před 5 lety

    Hi Hans, At 3:45 in the video, you refer to the Uptone LPS-1 as a switch-mode power supply. Was that an oversight? I'm sure you know the LPS-1 is an ultracapacitor supply. It includes an SMPS energizing supply, but the audio component only sees the LPS-1, and is galvanically isolated from the AC mains.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  Před 5 lety

      Well, you are right but so am I. As you say it is a ultracapacitor supply, thus like a battery without the disadvantages and charged from a switch mode power supply. But from a practical view it also is a switch mode power supply followed by an extremely well 'filter' in the shape of an ultracapacitor supply. People that don't have the Uptone branded SMPS still might get HF noise into their mains. The Updone branded SMPS has countermeasures. I hope to review het new Uptone LPS 1.2 later this year.

    • @austinpop
      @austinpop Před 5 lety

      Thanks for clarifying. Fascinating how each of our brains are unique. You may be the first person I know to look at it in that way, but OK!
      Just want to clarify that the bulk of users buying an LPS-1.2 do not think they are buying an SMPS with a filter. Certainly, that *is* what they think when they buy an SOtM sPS-500 - at least the ones who've done their homework.
      Anyway, thanks for clarifying your rationale.
