is the flange on the top of the neck part so that you have clay available on the inside as well as the out side to assist in a good join, i plan to have a go of a 2 piece vase or pot in the future. thanks for sharing. i like both types of videos, no sound so you can concentrate purely on what your hands are forming with the clay and talking backs up what you are doing. thanks, just love your channel

I remember watching the original video on this, never gets old. Neat to see how you did the two part then and how you do it now. Awesome.

Makes a change in dim moody lighting Matt.
Great throwing as usual you make it look so very easy :) hehe.
This is one of the complicated section pots from you, very helpful to beginners & potters alike.
Thanks for the video. Love all your "inspirational" videos.
PS: You are always saying there's no such thing as a perfect pot! I think I have to disagree with that assumption: This one is .

Beautiful video! I’m going to brave throwing a two-piece vase soon! I was wondering, how long do you wait for the first piece to dry b4 attaching the 2nd?

I usually make them one day and let them dry overnight lightly covered with plastic. They’re past leather hard but hard to describe how dry.

Is there any benefit or opportunity to throwing in two parts?

    • @MatthewKellyPottery

There’s definitely a benefit. I do it because I can make larger pots with better form using two sections one larger clay ball.
