I would like to see a series called "Trade-in Tuesdays" or something like that. Because you probably won't film your store every single day, have a day of the week where you give customers incentives to trade their stuff in. This way you could get a bunch of footage of trades all at once. I'd like to see rare or crazy stuff people bring in.
Rick, starting my own retro gaming store was the scariest moment of my life- more so than fatherhood, because the entirety of our family's financial safety rested upon it. It will bring you immense joy, fear, but ultimately it changed my life for the better. We've created something beautiful that bring so much happiness to other people.

There is so much potential here, Rick. One big possibility is you could host your own retro event convention on opening to get people in store, then host it annually. You could even host meet and greets with Riff, Ricky, Gabo from Pixel Game Squad, bring famous actors, voice actors etc from the 90's etc. Besides that we all know Phoenix Resale will bulk buy from you lol. You've got this bro.

I would try to keep the employees that are in good standing with the couple you are talking about. Make the transition into a easy as possible for the employees and the customers. If you keep them, you keep the trust in the store to give out good deals on both the selling and purchasing side.
You should add toys into your video game store. Especially all those cool 80s and 90s toys you come across. Make it into exactly what you love.

First and foremost make your family a priority. That being said. Congrats Rick ! Please be aware of the layout of your inventory and any blind spots in your survalence system . You can take a ball roll it around the store and any place you don't see it is a blind spot . Greet all customers introduce yourself remember as many names as you can . Think of the things you like at other game stores and build on that.. Ask the former owners what worked and what didn't .

I always thought if I ever had a game store, I would have a section with retro 90s consoles hooked to a CRT with a nice audio system so that the younger generation can sit down and experience what sound and vision was of those great games that paved the way for what we have today.
This is HUGE news and I'm very happy for you. This channel inspired me to go hunting and to buy to sell and put work into my collection "without spending a dime" and I'm grateful for that. But that's what this channel is, inspiration to myself and many others who are incredibly happy for you and your channel and your family. Congrats on everything, I think its easy to say that a lot of kids dreams growing up is to own their own video game store! If anyone else hasn't recommended this for future content yet, maybe you could record when people trade in huge collections to the store. People might have interesting stories on how that person collected over the years and why they are trading it in. Obviously people bringing in huge collections wouldn't happen everyday but when it does happen it would be cool to see.
Owning a game store sounds amazing. Hope you know what you're getting into. Be awesome if the owners can show you how they do everything to run the store. Hope you get some great employees you can trust to run the store without you eventually so you can game hunt or do more conventions

I would make a retro corner (or halve) what is styled and decorated entirely for the 80’s / 90’s perhaps a couple of arcade units.
Retro diner theme with the checkerboard tiles etc.
That pawn stars idea is great, would be allot of content.

They should be very knowledgeable about the items and interesting to watch. Reality isn’t always real. It’s a show and it’s the business of show. Please choose employees and experts who we really learn from. I want to feel not only entertained, but also learn new things.

I think maybe putting in a small arcade part of the store would be awesome and it would help generate some extra income to help with the store or whatever you may need it for. Hey I appreciate you opening up about the difficulties of your life and of doing CZcams. When I watch you guys you make it look easy to pump out quality content. But I know just starting out that editing takes 4 EVER! I am still editing a video from SEGE and am maybe 20% complete... I have a family and work 40 hours a week and run a side computer consulting business. It's not easy. But thankful for you opening up about how you made it and have help. I thought it was somehow just you doing it all still. And congrats on the business! That is the dream of any video game collector is to own a store. Thanks again for all you do man!
Been with you guys a long time. Definitely don't limit yourself to retro videogames. Buy/sell everything pop culture including sports cards, Pokemon, Magic, merchandise, retro arcade games. The possibilities are endless.
Congrats Rick! Can’t wait to see the store. I think the one thing I just implore you to consider, remember that you are trying to please the masses, not just the retro gamers or 90’s collectors. You don’t want to just please them and forget everything else because you don’t know much about it or don’t care for it. You want to be a store where you can please everyone as that means good business. Leaning into one area because your passionate about it is not good business. Keep things open, make sure your store can please everyone, and don’t get caught up. It’s all about providing the best product, not just the stuff you like.

That’s what will cause this to fail if he can’t please everyone with what he’s selling, especially if he purchases rare pieces from the store to replace them with something mediocre from his collection, may have to stop watching this channel, good luck Rick.

Its always hard to see that others are not as passionate about things as yourself. And you have to indeed place yourself in their shoes to be able to tend to their needs.
I think it’s best to split the store in 2 sections: one modern and one retro.

I got Shaq-Fu for Easter the year it came out. The copy I got came with a cd of Shaq rapping. I’m sure it would be worth something if I had kept it. I think about all the stuff I had as a kid and I trashed. It really makes me sad I didn’t take better care of my stuff.

Host retro and modern game tournaments, some TCG tournaments, etc. Good luck w the store! I will definitely be tuning in more often! Congrats. Very smart checking in with your wife. Some ideas,make the store a Pokestop. Set up where people can play board games/card games. Have game tournaments.(you can collect money for charity) Film all kinds of stuff. I love the idea of swapping/trading. Set up a website for the store. Do meet and greets with other gamers/collectors. Maybe have where people can ask how to beat the level they're on. Film the difference on how old games look compared to new games.
