    Between Carrie's clothes, etc and Doug constantly getting take-out for every meal I can see why there's nothing in the bank. What's not believable is that neither of them realized it until something like this happened.

      @@jasonhearn5818 fair point, however frivolous spending comes in many shapes and forms. Doug's constant eating out was one of the main reasons for them being broke not to mention Doug's massive size. I went out with a woman whom constantly ate out. Especially to high end and fancy places. She never learned how to cook. I offered to cook and meal prep for her and she refused every time. After she lost her job in 2020 she became very unmotivated and began to constantly binge eat which lead to her weight gain

      @@cobraelectric Eh Doug mostly eats fast food which back then was a lot more affordable given wages didn't increase at the rate they should've. It's part of the reason why obesity became such a problem; it's cheap stuff he can buy at a large volume. Realistically the extra costs from a month's worth take-out is only about 1 or 2 of the fancy clothes Carrie buys. Her excuse is kinda overinflated as well; she was an assistant or something at that point. Dressing nice vs dressing "nice" is for the lawyers.

    I used to work with a guy just like this. He and his wife have one child, they make $130k a year with a $901 mortgage payment and they live paycheck to paycheck. You can't outearn poor financial habits.

    Joe Heffernan had owned a hardware store and was a good businessman. Sadly, his son has no business sense, which is why Carrie pays the bills in the household. Doug was initially told about the water problem by the home inspector before they bought the house. Now, it's a mold problem. Insurance will not cover the repair costs, plus they are unable to get a bank loan, so they are asking Doug's parents for help.

    Doug and his dad are right, though. Everything doesn't have to have high end labels. Nobody knows whose brand you're wearing. How would they know if you're wearing a $50 pantsuit or a $500 pantsuit? Makeup and hair products, okay. Don't skimp, but shop smart. Getting your hair done by a professional, is better than trying to do it yourself. Just make a budget and save up for it.

      Sister did this recently. Drives a Tesla and Lexus. 500k house. Lives outside their means. I have zero debt and rent a 1 bedroom pad. She needed to borrow 1k. Recently I see a Facebook post of her going on a cruise with the family. You would think she would make priority to pay me back but I will most likely never see that money again. I asked my dad for 500 dollars in my early 20's. I was so devastated that I killed myself for 2 weeks to get him paid back.

    I agree with Doug and his father, Carrie does not need to spend 1200 dollars on one item of clothing just because she works in a law firm in Manhattan. I know its a high class law firm but still. I am sure you can get a similar nice item for lot less.

    How can they not have $$$, let alone $12,000. The father is right. They both have good paying positions, no children, no elderly parents to take care of, no school debt for any high-paying degrees, no travel experience, no property, real estate, or business( except their house). No schooling or entrepreneurship endeavors.
    And to have nothing to show for all that, must suck.
    Obviously applying this in real life, which is the reality of many people 🙄 unfortunately. Imagine, having all your $$$ go to just clothes, accessories, bags, shoes, jewelry. Which with the exception of precious metals, devalues?....

    Women do not need expensive clothes, 5 pair of black shoes, manicures, pedicures, 3 purses, a 200.00 haircut or Starbucks. I am a woman who buys clothes from Walmart or thrift stores. I do not get manicures, pedicures or buy jewelry. I only have 1 pair of shoes I wear.
