- Cleaning My Oven Using A Tik Tok Hack
Hey ya'll, I will be cleaning my oven using a TikTok hack. The Holidays are coming up and I wanted my oven to be clean and ready for all of this Thanksgiving cooking. In this video, I will be testing a TikTok cleaning hack. My oven is beyond dirty, and I wanted to find a cleaning hack that did not involve harsh chemicals. I will be showing you a cleaning trick I learned to help get your oven in tip-top shape just in time for the Holidays. Now this hack does involve elbow grease, but nothing you can't handle.
Oven Cleaning Hack Recipe
Baking Soda 1 1/2 cup
Dishwashing liquid = 1/2 cup
white vinegar= 1/4

This was the best video ever. I am sick of watching people clean ovens with just a little mess. I want to watch someone clean an oven that looks as bad as mine from cooking bacon. I loved the fact that you were so honest about the endeavor..the self-doubt...haven’t we all been there. You did such great job making the video...I could see everything so clearly. Your oven looks great. I am going to do mine too but not use as much Dawn.
Aww, Thanks! I’ve learned not to use warm to hot water when removing the mixture. Cold water doesn’t cause more suds to form😁 Good luck with your oven 😊
I was thinking the same thing. Finally someone with an actual dirty oven. These results were good. I’m a try this on my oven , hopefully it works out .
Yes, I cook bacon in my, too. Makes an awful mess.
@@mjp5129 Right!
Hello. I see that you have the same floors that I have. What's the best way to keep them clean? What products do you use? How often?
I've never done this where I mixed it up BEFORE putting it on. Most of the cleaning power comes from the reaction of the vinegar to the baking soda; when you mix it up before, all of that reaction is happening off the place you want to clean. What has worked for me is to make a paste with a whole bunch of baking soda and a bit of water - you want it spreadable, like peanut butter, but not runny. You work one surface at a time, like just the bottom. Put the baking soda mixture on and then really rub it into. all over the surface. Then using a cheap spray bottle you spray it with white vinegar (don't use apple cider vinegar, it's half as strong. Spray the hell out of it and then IMMEDIATELY cover the whole surface in plastic wrap/saran wrap. Then do each of the other surfaces. Leave it for between 12 and 24 hours. When I can back all of the mess came off with a spatula - it just pushed right off.
That oven right there feels to me like there's some good eating going on! 🤩 Well done on scrubbing!
LOL! Right! A lot of home cooked meals. Thanks 😁
I did this but a little differently. I mixed the dawn and baking soda to make a paste and let it sit in the double ovens over night. The next morning I got paper towels and laid them on top of the paste then sprinkled the vinegar over the paper towels. It cleaned up pretty easily. The vinegar must have made the Dawn less sudsy. The double ovens had been in the house since 1969 and looked brand new!
😊😊😊😊
I was feeling sorry for you for a little while. You had the look of dejection, and questioned why you even started this to begin with, but you stuck with it. Perseverance was the key, and it paid off. The before and after are amazing, you did a great job. I did don’t think it would look half as good as it does, it looked impossible. Nice job!
Yeah, I honestly could have cried when the bubbles wouldn’t go away. Thanks for the encouragement 😊
🎉🎉🎉🥰🥰🥰 proud of you for sticking with it. YaaaY!!!🎉🎉God bless you
Haven't read all the comments so just in case someone hasn't already said this... you need to start the wiping with DRY paper towels. That's right, dry-wipe most of it out first. That will remove most of the Dawn and a lot of the grease it released from your oven. You don't want to spread that around; you want to remove it, right? Then come back through again with a wet scrubby to work on the bad spots. Then come back through again with a dry wipe. You may need to do one damp wipe after that to get the last of the residue, but that should do it.
Thanks for the tip!
Use an SOS pad or the Fume Free oven cleaner. That’s just too much work. Sorry, lol
Just wanna take a hose to it, right?
@@mjp5129 Yes indeed!
You took the words out of my mouth!
This is the honest video I ever watched. I am also struggling cleaning my oven. Thank you for sharing your tips. God bless you always.
Thanks! I hear you! It is a struggle. Just take your time, rest when you need to, and know that your oven will look brand new in the end😊
Thank you for an honest post about the elbow grease needed and the assessment of the hack! My oven looks like yours (no shame! that's what happens when you use it!), so now I know what I need to do to to get it clean for the New Year.
You’re welcome 😊 I totally agree! It proves that we really cook😁 Hope you have a prosperous New Year!
Looks great! You inspire me to clean my oven
Aww, thanks 😊
👋🏾Hello! My first time. Your oven looks great! I recently had to deep clean my oven as well, but I used oven cleaner instead. I wish I knew about the hack before I used cleaner. I had my oven door removed, so I could work in the back of the oven more easily - that helped tremendously. Thanks for being transparent through the process❤
Thanks! I want to remove my oven door when I clean, but I’m afraid I won’t be able to get it back on 😆
@@UniquelyTish I understand that😂
Wow, looks like a new oven !!! 👍🏾🙌🏾👏🏾
Thanks😊
Wow! Your perseverance paid off. Well done
Thanks😊
I love your real transparency.. real life and to show us your hard work you put in .. 🎉awesome job
Awww, thank you so much😊
Goals friend! I need to tackle my oven as well. This was so much fun, I love the holidays
Thanks! I can’t wait to start cooking! Now I just need my oven liner so that it doesn’t get this bad again😁
Awesome work!! Looks amazing!!
Thanks! My arms are still sore🤣
Just seeing this video, I laughed I'm so sorry, but your honesty in this video is funny but so admirable, blessings to you and your family, subscribed.
Lol! It was definitely a challenge 😆 Thanks for joining the family ❤️
I love you girl I love your attitude tried it on my oven and it worked thank you
Awww! Thanks 🥰 That is awesome that it worked on your oven!
Wow, you did GREAT!
Thanks😁
Wow...what an amazing transformation 😍 tfs
Thanks😊
Great job sticking with it. I always pull off the oven door. It makes it much easier to reach inside.
Thanks! That would definitely make it easier to reach the back. I’m so afraid of not being able to put it back on 😆
Hi Trish
You did a great job. I use oven liner for the bottom of the oven. You lay it on the last oven rack. It catches all the spills. I have tried this method and it does work. I tried to clean my oven after every use so I don’t have to but in a lot of muscle.
Thanks for the tip! I’m searching on Amazon now for oven liner😁
I can’t use one in mine. It is a steam clean oven. The steam clean works ok, but not like I would prefer. So I clean.
Awesome video and Awesome oven cleaning!🏆
Wow, that looks great👍
Thanks😊
Girrrl yesssss….I was planning on trying this before thanksgiving and you have convinced me to do so.😀..my oven is baaad but not too bad but bad enough 😀😀Tsmfs. …
My arms are sore, but it actually worked! Good luck 😁
Thanks for sharing!! Love this hack
Thanks! I was beginning to doubt the process, but it actually worked 😁
Wow, this was like going to the gym, and some. But it is so good to see an honest video where they use gravy browning or something to look like dirt. This is real residue from cooking. So glad it was okay in the end. Phew!
Right! Lots of elbow grease 😆
Aww bless you. Like someone said, you kept it real, people moaning when there’s just a little dirt in there. I must say I think it was the elbow grease more than the cleaning agent. Loved the music at the end, hilarious, don’t think I will be using this hack though!
Thanks 😊 Lol! Right! Lots of elbow grease. I ended up using actual oven cleaner the next time around😆
Nice. Looks like it really did the job.
Thanks 😊
Honey remove all that soap and stuff. Then take 2 cups of baking soda and 3/4 cup of vinegar...mix mix mix...NOW! using a paint brush lather the whole oven with same...turn on oven for 40 mins at 100* ,,Now clean out the debris.Love your beautiful smile.
I am definitely trying this! I would have never thought to use a paint brush. Thanks😊
Does that work on spots that oven cleaner did not remove?
Baking soda and vinegar will help cut through cooked-on grease. Maybe the dish soap is added to break down the oil?
Caution with Easy Off: do not get any of it on the heating elements, and preheat your oven for at least 10 minutes AFTER it reaches temperature, otherwise the residual odor will be in your food.
Great video lol, not throw the whole oven away. Lol you had me laughing
Thanks! Girl, I was to that point 🤣
Hi Tish, thank you for your reply re cleaning the back. Yes, I have thought of a long brush, but is has to be in a certain angle. I'll keep looking. As for removing the door.......well I don't think so. I think I would get into a bit mess.
'
Thank you for sharing 😊
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you so much mam❤❤
I made the same mistake. It did not work for me and I damaged my oven scrubbing so much. I ended up using easy off and that worked like a charm. I also put clean oven in July, after Thanksgiving and aftter Christmas so it won't get so bad.
I was so done with this mixture. I’ll be using easy off from here on out. I tried the dishwasher tab, and that was more work than this mixture. Oven cleaning on a schedule is something I need to start doing! Thanks for the tips😊
The best way it to take the door off, so easy to get in there! And it’s super easy to take off
Thanks for the advice! I will definitely try removing the doors next time😊
First like great
Hi Trish. You’re right the amount of detergent sounds extreme. Detergent is an alkaline and the best way of removing this soap buildup is take some straight vinegar (acidic) and a clean rag to remove that mess. 😊
Thanks so much for the tip! It will definitely come in handy next time😊
Good job
Thanks😊
Thanks for posting
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching 😊
@@UniquelyTish I used this method on my own stove. I definitely understand how it kept being soapy. I had lots of bubbles. This does work I just lack the elbow grease to scrub so much.
@@elizabethotte6279 I was so ready to throw in the towel😆 You are right! It takes a lot of elbow grease to make it work.
That's why I buy self cleaning ovens
Right! This one came with the house, but as soon as it goes out we’re definitely getting a self cleaning one.
So there's hope for mine 😉 . That looks good
Oh yes, there’s definitely hope😁
It worked thanks
@@lynnpena7464 Yay😁
Thank you for your honesty...I stick to oven cleaner
You’re welcome! Yeah, I think oven cleaner would work much better!
Encouraged me to put some muscle into my oven ❤❤ wow that’s amazing
Awww❤️
You used too much soap, the mixture does work with a lot patience and time. Your oven turned out soo clean and beautiful, happy cooking.
Right! Too much soap combined with warm water resulted in the never ending suds😆 Thanks so much😊
Maybe clean initially with paper towels and finish with vinegar and rags . You did a good job ❤
Thanks for the tip! I’ll have to give it a try😊
Looks great! Mine is as bad as yours was. Will try your method.
Thanks! If yours look like mine that means it’s some good cooking going on in your house😊
I worked!! Thanks
@@phyllisbreedlove4842 Yay! That is Awesome 😊
A lot less dawn it’s concentrated and use cold water to help cut down suds.
Yep, that definitely works! Thanks for the tip!
I know im late to reply, but thank you for the video!
Thanks😊
Great job it look like a 8 hour job 😮😊
Thanks! Right! It sure felt like it😆
A quick tip. After it sits overnight I take paper towels and wipe most of the cleaner up before I start to wipe/scrub down the oven with warm water.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely try that next time!
Great Job. I have a problem reaching the back panel cause I'm short with short arms. any ideas
Thanks! Maybe try a scrub brush with a long handle. Some have suggested removing the oven door. Depending on your comfort level, that may help. I’m afraid that if I take mine off, I won’t be able to get it back on…lol.
❤❤❤❤❤
I use a paint razor thing to kinda scrap the burn stuff off then I get to making my concoctions 😂 but I want to try the lemon hack but add dawn to get that extra clean.
I bet the paint razor way more effective than all of this scrubbing😁 I’ll have to look the lemon hack up because I spilled some marinade in the bottom of the oven the other day and now I have to clean it again😩
@@UniquelyTish oh no! Girl I would have cried. Though they have oven safe liners you put at the bottom of your oven.
@@lakayladumas4793 Definitely getting oven liners😁
Once I put the mixture on, I put saran wrap over it to keep it wet and then it just wipes off clean.
Oh wow! I didn’t know about that trick! Thanks for the tip!
I think we're supposed to be two tablespoons of dishwashing soap ..And I found out later in life that you can remove your oven door so you can get in the oven better to clean .. uses rags made from cotton..And also maybe try news paper scrunch up the news paper B4 useing
Thanks! These are great tips! Will definitely give it a try next time😊
I was concerned but then your smile at the end. I tried rhis once before and it did not work. I may not have left the paste on lomf enough and didnt scrub enough.
It took a lot of elbow grease to get it clean…lol. I let the paste sit over night, and honestly I don’t think it was long enough 😆 You gave it your best. Hopefully you found a new cleaner that works well for your oven😊
Use COLD water to keep the suds down and wipe it out with a paper towel that should help!😊 then go back with water and vinegar to wipe it out!😊
Thanks for the tip!
@@UniquelyTish You have a Blessed day Tish!🎉😉
@@bridgettewood1713 Thanks! You too😊
Great video! I am sure people have already mentioned this but most oven doors lift off fairly easily. Makes cleaning the inside so much easier.
Thanks! Oh wow, I didn’t know that about the door! Thanks for the tip😊
i did this and couldn’t get it back on 😂 had to call a handyman out 😢
@@jasminejanae09 Sis, I would have went into a full panic before calling the handyman of course 🤣
I am so sorry ! That sounds horrible. I am really really lucky. My father is and engineer, licensed electrician plus many other things. I have had him walk me through replumbing my kitchen sink, across the country. So I haven't had to call a handyman. I totally would have panicked too.
@@UniquelyTish That would be me too, sis! 😂
Mine was the same, I changed cloth
What about Broiler cleaning
Can you try using a dry towel first? Or fabric softener, cause that’s what you use if you put too much laundry detergent in your washer.
I didn’t know about using a towel first. I’ll make a note of that! Thanks!
It is beautiful now 😊
Thanks!
How did you get all the soap out or how long did it smell like Dawn?
I had to empty and refill the water several times. The dawn scent was gone after several washes. I know now to use cold water instead of hot😆
How did you open the glass y clean
I wish that I could have opened it and cleaned it. I ended up scrubbing both sides of the glass. I think there are screws that will allow you to clean the inside. I haven’t experimented with that yet😊
Use the self clean on stove at least once a week or two then easy to kept clean
That would be nice if this oven had that option. My next one definitely will 😁
Another lady I watched who used baking soda and vinegar said she heated the oven up after brushing the mixture on to 100 degrees and then let it set for 45 minutes. She saw results and it was a pretty dirty oven also.
Oh wow! Thanks for the tip!
That bottom heating element is likely removable. Most are. They just unplug.
That’s good to know! It would definitely help having it out of the way.
How did you clean the racks?
I placed a towel in the bottom of a plastic container and soaked them in Dawn and water. I tried vinegar on my last oven racks and destroyed them, so Dawn it is😊
Why am I laughing… you said the more you wipe the more suds. No I’ve never tried that method. I’m too lazy for that. I have a self cleaning oven and you can select 2 or 4 hours and that oven be clean. You just have to wipe it down. Glad it worked for you 👍🏾
All I could think about was my food tasting like dish washing liquid 🤣 I miss my self cleaning oven we had at the old house.
Scrub muscles and dawn well it came out great 👍
Thanks😊
11:31 THAT is a thing of beauty. Honestly, Im a cleaning GEEK! Awesome
Thanks😁
1 question though, do the baked stuff taste like soap?
I was so afraid to cook because of that, but the food tasted normal. I was fully expecting dish washing liquid in my food😆
Did you know you can remove the door? There’s 2 latches on the joints when you open the door. Pry them down and pull the door up.
Thanks for the tip! That would make it so much easier to clean!
Use cold water to cut the suds.
Thanks so much for this tip!!! The suds were never ending 😆
Wait…. What’s that pink stuff you’re spraying on there? Maybe that’s all the extra bubbles?
Extra bubbles😆 I know to use cold water vs hot when removing it to prevent extra bubbles 😁
That oven looks like 👍 I not going to use the dawn
Rinsing with cold water should calm the suds down
Thanks for the tip😊
😮😮😮
You’re saying it’s not working but the whole time it seems to be working. Lol
Right! I was so nervous when the suds wouldn’t come out😆
make a thicker past
The best way to clean your oven is heat your oven to 150 for about 150 for about 10 minutes turn the oven off and inside you put a bowl of ammonia let it sit overnight and then clean your oven
9:13
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❣️
The way you clean your oven heat your oven to 150 for 10 minutes. Turn off your oven put a small sauce pan with ammonia ammonia let it sit overnight, then clean oven
Oh wow, I didn't know about ammonia. Thanks for the tip!
This recipe didn’t work for me either, so much soap just keeps leaving streaks.
I found out that the trick was to use cold water. The warm to hot water kept creating more suds😁 I was so done with this recipe 😆
It only works with light grime it doesn’t work with baked and grime you need to use foil on the bottom of your ovens and around anything like a broiler pan or something like that you need to protect it with aluminum foil and you need to get odorless easier off to get stuff that is broiled hard onto the oven I tried that concoction and it works fine if it’s not broiled on but it does not work for really broiled on stuff so what you have to do is get yourself easy off film free paint it on there leave it till tomorrow or follow the directions do it two or three times till everything comes off now I’m getting a self cleaning up and I don’t know about the rest of you guys but I’m gonna go down to the store and buy self cleaning oven I’m done with this I don’t like bending over and sitting on the floor and crawling in a dirty oven and I’m done
I hear you! A self-cleaning oven sounds fantastic 😁
You would love a self-cleaning oven!
Yes indeed😁
Self cleaning ovens do not work so well for me. Also the intense heat from self cleaning can do damage to the control board. Destroyed mine!

I'm going to going to do a screenshot at 3:04 and frame it.

Waooo thats a lot of work. Next time just buy a oven cleaner, they work pretty good without so much scrubbing. God bless you
Right! My thoughts exactly😁
Maybe you got the vinegar & soap measurements mixed up 🤔
I thought about that as I was going through the process, but went back to TikTok to confirm it was right. I should have used cold water instead hot to remove it 🤦🏽♀️
Hi Trish I should have also mentioned that dish soap’s ph level is not high enough to remove carbon and grease from oven surfaces as some may suggest. I would recommend a caustic based cleaner that would be found in most oven cleaner. When handling this type of cleaner be sure to wear gloves and long sleeve shirt. My “hack” is use that vinegar rinse for a residual free surface. 👍
Awesome! Thanks for the tip!
Oven cleaner and plastic wrap overnight. You won't have to work so hard and clean it more often.
Now that sounds like a great idea!
Maw-Maw taught you better than that, shame on you. Embarrassing her like that.
Now you know she did😆 I’ll try to get her reaction to watching it this weekend 🤣
I Hated seeing u scrub so long, maintenance is key, I never let my oven get that dirty but I know life happens sometimes
