  • We took the long tail boat from Tonsai Village to Long Beach. It's 100 THB per person. Our friends booked the hotel with Agoda for around 2,000 THB per night. เกาะพีพี
    I thought it was a nice idea to show you guys around on the resort as well. I only showed the pool villa which was a bit more expensive.

    My God.... Koh Phi Phi.... I stayed there for weeks on end back in '92 and another few weeks in '93.... On Long Beach, and all there was were some bamboo huts, nothing else, shower? They would pump in sea water every now and then, you had one light bulb in your hut that only worked sometimes. Candles and a fire on the beach at night, made from mainly driftwood....Food.... If the sea gypsy's had a good mood you could buy fried rice from them, we would catch our own fish to fry and every few days you would take a long boat to the main village on the island which was one little street with a bakery, a cafe and a diving school and that was it, at night a few cafe's where you could eat, and that was it. It was paradise, it really was.... I heard it changed, heard it wasn't what it was back then anymore, really shocked to see these huge resorts there now....

    • @madrotter
      @madrotter Před rokem +1

      Where most of those rooms are, that was just jungle, wet, snakes, spiders, a small wound and you needed loads of iodine because everything got infected like crazy.... Scuba diving in '93 there, first day in shallow water next day into the ocean, swimming with tiger sharks, if they come, stay still and let yourself sink to bottom :) The other Island,the small Phi Phi, you would rent a boat and spend a day there swimming, wandering about, nobody there, huge caves where locals would hunt for birds nests for soup, worth a lot of money back then and quite a few locals died there, they would just use bamboo poles tied together and climb them, slippery like hell... Some of the biggest spiders I've seen, and after living in Indonesia for 26 years now, I've seen some huge spiders, but nothing like I saw on small Phi Phi, nothing like after they did that movie there.....

      @@globaltravelmate You're welcome :) And thank you for the video, brought back a lot of great memories :) In front of our huts, right on the beach there was an old tree stump sticking out of the sand and every time there was a new arrival we told them, sure, you can join our camp fire but you have to listen to the tree stump first. They would be like, eh? And then they would listen and you would see their eyes grow big in amazement. There was a bee nest inside that tree stump and if you got really close you could hear them. Funny thing is, we never saw a bee coming out of it.... A bit out, in the sea there was a HUGE muraena fish living, people snorkeling would swim out in a panic seeing that huge beast :) All together I spend around 8 months in Thailand, mostly on the islands in the South, spend a few weeks on Koh Tao, I hear it's all resorts there now. Back then, two very small resorts on the whole island, like Koh Phi Phi, just bamboo huts, no electricity at all, just lovely....

Espero volver muy pronto y volver a vivir en Tailandia. Disfruta de estos días extraños en el paraíso.

    If you want good snorkeling/coral from the beach go to Loh Moh Dee beach which you will get to about 10/15 minutes on the road at the end of Long beach (maybe have to rent good snorkel before you go). Also Rantee beach which is (steeply) down through the jungle other side from the viewpoint (good shoes and fit legs advised😊). About 30 minutes from viewpoint.

    Haha yes Columbus treaded his first step on a shore of an unknown extremely remote land full of enthusiasm for explorations. Too bad his up-followers just thought they owned the lands by his explorations.
    Do you know the Hollanders were the second Farangs who came to Ayuthia after the Portuguese 500+ years ago ? Ayuthia kings bought guns and cannon from them, also hired Hollander mercenaries for guards. There's a unique Thai word for calling people/culture relating things from Netherland "Holanda". You'll hear some of the Thais call you "Chao Holanda" or even "Farang Chao Holanda", meaning people from Holland.

    It almost feels sinful to desire to go to this island because there is probably a billion people in the world who would love to go there, yet the island is tiny and can only take a small number of visitors.
    Too many visitors would rape and defile this beauty and nature.
