One of the reasons why I love the Raimi Spider-Man films is how downright terrifying the villains are. I wouldn't expect less from the guy behind Evil Dead, but his iterations of Green Goblin and Doc Ock wouldn't feel out of place in a horror film. And somehow Dafoe outdid himself in No Way Home.
Raimi vhad the villains that have a deeper emotional and psychological connection to both Peter Parker and spider man.
Green goblin spider manâs greatest and most hated enemy. His best freind father. The villain responsible for hurting spider the most. Green goblin has a grudge on Spider-Man philosophy of trying to save everyone. He directly goes out of his way to make Peter break his own moral code.
Doc oc. One of Peter personal heroâs growing up in the science community. Doc oc would come to hate spider man for getting in his way. As he developed into a villain do oc becomes obsessed with thwarting spider man .
Venom. Bonded to Peter at time where he was at his lowest. Venom knows the the worts spider:Peter has to offer.

Now I now why Tobeyâs Spiderman is the most experience, versatile and proficient in saving falling women. His first opponent was the cunning Green Goblin, and Willamâs Green Goblin pulled up lots of tricks but still went easy on him on multiple occasions.
This allowed Tobey to build up his fighting awareness overtime. This contrast to Garfield and Hollandâs spiderman where they were simply caught off guard.
You're forgetting the fact that this Osborne thought Peter as his son and wanted him by his side, until he couldn't..
He had the power to kill May, be he didn't..
He only pissed Peter in last fight because he wanted to know experience his full potential...

I think compared to Tobeyâs Spidey, Green Goblin finds MCU Peter as weaker, less experienced and went extra hard on him just to torment him. Like a bully finding an easier kid to pick on. Goblin is a sick twisted bastard.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how Raimi makes such fantastical fight scenes seem somehow brutal?
The choreography feels almost like Power Rangers, but the combination of camera work, directing, and performances gives it a completely different and more brutal feel.

I was just criticizing just how stiff some of the motions are but I do love the practical effects involved.

You missed the point of what Goblin was trying to say. Spiderman was strong enough to take what he wanted, but his morals held him back, and stops him from having what he wants. That line would apply to any Spiderman in Goblin's eyes.
The, "impressive," line was just him being surprised that there was anyone else superpowered like him before. And he was interested.

Yes, same character. And if Tobey was so much stronger, then his villains would have been on another level also. Yet Tom performed about as well as Tobey did against Goblin and Doctor Octopus.
Thing that seperates these fight scenes from the new mcu ones is focus. This fight stays focused on the fight and no comedic interruptions. The stakes are higher and drawn out with him having to save people. The hits are more impactful with the use of pov and slow motion and this being around the time of the first matrix Im sure raimi got inspiration from that. The fights feel scarier and more drawn out because the whole scene is focused on the fight. They need to implement this more in the new movies and infinity war went in this direction a little bit. But the fights werenât as personal so theres that also, this fight was very personal
I agree. Spider-Man FFH did something that I always wanted to see in marvel movies, the superhero getting his ass handed to em. We havenât see it until then. Captain America, Bucky and Black Widow were always the better fighters in the room, Iron Man had hella gear to use, the guardians had too much comedy (except for Gamora v. Nebula in GoTG 2). we need more of these moments in the MCU because the superheros have to understand that every enemy isnât going to go easy on them. Some of these villains (like Green Goblin) will really kill people you love without hesitation. Hereâs a list of folks that need their asses handed to em for character development purposes: Cap. Marvel, I need Sam Captain America to get his ass beat a few more times, Peter Quill, just to name a few.
I agree! And the use of practical shots was really helpful in keeping the viewer immersed. Too much CGI lately but they didnât use much in the final fight of NWH which I enjoyed

I love these movie's practical style, only resorting to CGI when absolutely necessary. As much as I liked NWH, it was inundated with so much CGI it might as well be animated.

Can we just take a moment to realize how tough an opponent Green goblin really is man's got the hands. There's a lot of situations in this movie where MJ and Spider-Man should have really died but they were spared from death but it was kinda cool and definitely worth it.

5:32, Unlike most Marvel movies, New Yorkers were always the unsung heroes in Spider-Man movies. There to help out each Spider-Man when he was at his weakest, especially the post-9/11 Tobey McGuire trilogy.

They all have the proportionate strength of a spider. Garfield is physically the biggest Peter Parker so if you are going by their actual power set, he should be the strongest.

Holland was good at escaping and I would say the best of both worlds but tobey fights more aggressively in his movies than Tom. After nwh I feel tom can fight better but garfield could probably still beat him based on your theory and I would agree except Garfields villians havent challenged him in combat that much. But he is faster than holland I feel and could dodge most of Hollands basic attacks

What you notice in both encounters of the Goblin in SM1 and NWH is that at first, Peter always pulls his punches. Goblin uses this to his advantage, usually having the upper hand by a wide margin in their fights. It's when Goblin pushes Peter over the edge, causing Peter to use his full strength that shows the difference in their fighting capabilities. Peter would just wipe Goblin when he's not holding back, you can tell in SM1 after he angers Peter by mentioning MJ and in NWH... (SPOILERS)

Raimi always made sure there was weight behind a face reveal. When Peter sees it's Harry's dad, when Harry unmasks Peter, when MJ sees peters face fighting doc oc, each one I felt the depth of knowing that person all your life and realizing they're that mystery that was right beside you. His bombs seem more destructive in NWH but could just be for plot reasons.
That's the same bomb he hit him with in the end fight. I guess Spidey can endure it more than a normal human can.

@@luckyninety582 considering how all of the goblin gear was upgraded by Harry in between the end of SM2 and SM3, I think Harry probably upgraded the bombs as well considering they scarred his face in the 3rd movie and the OG goblin grenade just blew Peter back in the first one. Spiderman and goblin have similar stats which is why this matters imo
Upon reflecting now...Green Goblin was perfectly cast, and perfectly insane. Otto Octavius had a method to his madness,,,,,,and it showed through his acting.
These Spiderman films will never be topped....even with a whole universe coming to bear on them.

There was a time when William Dafoes portrayal of the Green Goblin was deemed campy and cartoonish, which it is, but with NWH he's managed to make it cool and relevant again.
