- Check out our latest CZcams video where we conduct a mason jar soil test to analyze the soil on our property! As we plan to build a house using compressed earth blocks, understanding our soil composition is crucial. Ideally, we're aiming for around 20% clay content, but the results vary depending on the location. Join us on this journey as we strive to find the perfect soil ratio for our project. Don't forget to like, subscribe, and share to stay updated on our progress!
YEA!!! Can’t wait to see those blocks… you guys might want to consider building a shed first that doesn’t require a permit for practice.
We definitely try something else other than house. We are thinking about pump house first. 😊
Good work!!!! I've been working with dirt myself so I understand the pain of digging that deep into the dirt 😭
Thank you Ducky!! Dirt work is hard but rewarding! Hope you are still having great experience!!
separate the clay by pouring it through a t-shirt filter, the clay will go through, and you just let it evaporate and presto pure clay.
I will have to look into that one. Thanks!
@@leeslivingoutofthenorm that way you can add clay as needed
Need to let it stand for about 24 hours at a minimum
Thank you for your advice. We hope to dig more different areas and do more test in the future. Wish us luck for better results.
If you are going to add 15% cement why wouldn't you just use concrete. Concrete is only 10% cement. Would be much easier, no?
Thank you for taking time to comment😊We hope we don’t need 15% but it will be a possibility. We will be using our own soil for the rest to make blocks so it could reduce carbon footprint in the long run. We really need to play with different soil from our property to figure out to make right mix. It will be a long journey! 😅
I do believe you should not add more than 10% and I have heard many say not to add more than 8% concrete.
We still have some to learn. We will keep you updated
