You can use dishwashing liquid too , mix it with baking soda it will clean clothes well. Same applies just soak them in your kitchen sink and rinse then like them hang to dry in your shower or bath tub. Baking soda works great on clothes that are dirty you'll have to rinse them several times.
dishwashing liquid will make your colors run. use detergent if you can
My washing machine broke today so I am forced to watch this too :(

I dont have a washing machine lul
Big us moment bruh
Me too😂😂😂
Doing this really saves my ass. I'm in an apartment and quarters might as well be gold nuggets. I never seem to find them and we don't have a change maker here so I always put off laundry until I can get some change. But then something comes up and my favorite clothes are always dirty, so I can do this when I need to.
buy a bucket and put water and laundry soap in it. put your clothes in the bucket and stir them around with a broom handle.
Should you rub the clothes?
@@user-qn2ey6gk4m Do so gently if it's a delicate item, you can also rub it a couple times with your hands. I'd recommend latex gloves doing it, scrubbing the item against itself or using your hands :)
She seems like a really kind lady! I like her! :)

I finally have the power of knowledge of handwashing my delicates. I shall be eligible to save money NOW!
Corona brings me here 😂 don’t wanna risk a laundromat for just a few items.
I live in a multi-unit with a laundry room but due to covid...decided to opt-out of that filthy laundry room. The other residents...most of them...are slobs on a good day. Now? I don't have to clean up after them, and I wash my clothes whenever I want...no clean-up or coins involved. I never thought I'd be doing this, but....it works!
Yeah this was very helpful, saved the day after my machine broke
thanks for this video. itll come in handy
I came here to make ma' momma proud
I’m 60. Been going to a laundromat all my life.
Now I move to a small city with no laundromat.
Time to fire up the sink
I’ve seen this one, the guy comes soon to “fix the machine”.
@clzm90 Of course you do. Most of us use too much detergent. Which never gets completely rinsed away and as a result makes our clothes look dingy... and the excess detergent actually attracts dirt. Wash once, rinse twice... then hang to dry. ;)
@clzm90 Well it depends on your water, how hard or soft it is, how much water you are using, etc. For me using liquid detergent, I use about 2 tablespoons per 2.5-3 gallons of water. Even in a washing machine (mine is front loaded) I use about 1/3 the recommended amount. As for Powder detergent in a top loader, I would start by mixing the dry detergent in water before adding to the wash. Experiment by gradually reducing the amount you use until you find the right amount.
Cool I learned how to was small washcloths
yup. And if I'm staying in some rural area or youth hostel, it's good to wash by hand.
It's a forgotten skill, but very useful and failsafe.
Welp I have always said i was fascinated by the 1800's so here I am, Washing clothes without a washer due to my washer breaking :,)
thanks
Hey Alex, I was watching another video and they squeeze the garments and then put them on a clean towel and cover them up before sticking them on the line. Hope that helps, I know how you feel because my machine just blew up today and I've only had it 5 months!
correct!!! i was like with
good to know if your washer dose not work thanks
As a mom who's hubbie sold our washer any tips would be greatful
i would use a detergent for hand washing works well on clothes and gentle on hands most come in a bar type soap or in small plastic bags and soap for baby clothes cleans well and is good on hands....wash in small batches and spin out or extra rinse and spin in machine.
in hot places tumble dryers are just a waste of money and energy, it does not mean that the people are actually poor
i like the idea if you have to pay for washing in the apt
Sound easy but when you start doing it(your mother suddenly don't allowed you to use washing machine!!😨) is so hard and might have no idea whether is still clean as in washing machine!!😵
Don't you need to rinse off the detergent before hanging them to dry?
My washing machine broke, and we’re in the middle of quarantine...
It was a f***ing simpler time when this video was uploaded
@2JobsStillPoorUSA How much detergent is recommended then? Or in my case, powder.
I like this woman
I got a cheap pair of pants on amazon and they might fall apart if I wash it in the washer. Thanks. Idk how I didnt learn this already
Can you clean clothes in a bucket too?
when you squeeze the shirt, will it make the shirt wider or longer?????
firat comment WOOT WOOT and nice video!!!!!!
Thats true, there are some things you can't machine wash.
Does anyone know how to avoid clothes smelling damp?? I am forced to wash mine by hand til I can afford a new washing machine, and I've tried ringing them out and putting them straight into the dryer, and I've tried letting them dry on radiators/at room temperature but there is always a degree of a damp smell no matter what I do. It's really bugging me I hate it.
Our new washer just broke. Sears won't come fix it for another week and I need to go out tomorrow. Hoping this works good..
did it
Yeah, it worked pretty well. Just gotta be sure you rub your clothes with enough pressure to get all the dirt and stuff out.
@@AlienVibesss I was going to ask you how did it go because I have to hand wash and I have one day of training to do in another city tomorrow. Wish me luck because I refuse to go to the laundromat with some drug dealers and strange people walking around. I miss being married because he used to take the clothes to the washer when we were waiting on another machine or if one broke down
@@shenequakimbro2660 it went great! When I posted my comment originally, I didnt wanna go to the Laundromat because I had just had foot surgery a few weeks prior, so I understand you not wanting to go as well! Theres been a few times over the years where I've had to wash clothes this way, and I'm always happy to have found this video 7 years ago. Its a life saver. Just remember to use a good amount of pressure to agitate the dirt from your clothes, and be very thorough when rinsing your clothes. Jeans are the toughest to watch by hand for sure (at least for me) so you may want to give any pairs of jeans more attention.
@Sotigris Not to mention it's better for the enviroment!
Can you put it in a dryer after?
Yes but just make sure to wring them really well and not have your clothes soaking wet.
@thekillingwolf
right question...sink is meant for spitting!!
LMFAO hahahaha same here !!! bad times
Do I have to put in water to rinse off the detergent or do I just leave it like that to dry?
You have to use more water to rinse the detergent off.
oh awesome, so i dont even have to rinse them!
It's good to know IF the laundry room is closed how to wash in the sink in the bathroom or in the tub how to wash stinky clothes out before putting in the washer downstairs
Can you wash delicates like this?
Jeremy Standfill yes
soak in soapy for half hour first
Fels Naptha. MUCH cheaper than the spray stain treatment. One bar lasts forever.
Next time she should look at her washing machine. Unless you bought the cheapest model, washers have a gentle cycle for delicate clothes. The machine fills up, agitates 2 or 3 times gently, pauses, then repeats. This goes on for 4 or 5 minutes, drains then rinses.
Would never work for me. My clothes HAVE to be rinsed and preferably dried, too, though I guess I have to admire anybody who can wear soapy wet clothes. Hell, I'm just a weakling.
Its called hang drying hamg them outside and time will do the rest.
People do rinse them. I think that step was presumed.
Trish O'Connor exactly.
That feel when no washboard.
My hands hurt after doing this I needed to wash a load so a good 30 pieces and my thumb still hurts to this day it’s been a week.
Maybe a wash board
Damn youre weak as hell lol
can anyone plz tell me how many items can be washed at one time?
I wonder where Ginger is now what is she up to these days, plus 15 years older geez
well, there are some fabrics that you can not wash with washing machine, such as wool.
@iluvdrsomuch i agree maybe they just want to save money

My washing machine broke
I have just enough to pay my electric bill_with no money to wash clothes_ so this is it
Came here after my landlord said no to buying a new washer 😓
I like her, she's nice!
@LLOYD19851012 same here man
My washing machine just broke down and here I am forced to watch this :(
i just hate wen youtube video stops every 5 second,,,,, ya i have bad internet speed!!
SAD! My mother did this in the bathtub back in the late 30s. She DID NOT ENJOY it as this smiling moron. She had two babies and a fireman husband to wash for plus herself and countless diapers and bedclothes. Her memories of those days were unpublishable!!!
That is definitely not how you watch Laundry by Hands sweetheart you have to wrap it up a little bit with your hand jacket that is not how I learn to do it back home
10 modern appliances dislike this video
I'm poor as fuck and washing machines are expensive.
Um
i live off the tax payers adn this is too much work for me i just go to the laundromat i live in a resident program that pays higher rent then section 8 and some people in my program cant budget their money and they have to clean their clothes in the bathtub adn sink i knew one guy use to put his clothes in a 5 gallon bucket and stir it with a 2 x 4 piece of wood its hard to rinse out the clothes properly washing them by hand then u have to hang dry the clothes adn they drip alot its not worth it
اكو واحد مايعرف يغسل ملابس
Washer broke so mad
Who the hell has a sink that big?
Laundry sinks tend to be deep but that one is awesome.
expertvillage is like the second coming of google o.o they know everything
I think this comment deserves a few likes.
wth*
Better get some gloves!
too much water and too much soap
Using a washer and dryer is for someone that is lazy and expects things to be done for them. If you think your clothes are getting cleaner in a washer than washing them by hand than you are wrong. I wash the clothes that I wore for the day at the end of the day, why wait til you have a load to do? If you think you have to have white socks then you are the one that is crazy, not me. And no I am not broke, I have a job and I have money. I just prefer to wash my clothes by hand. People in America are just spoiled and snobby.
Well as an American that hurts....but after I moved to China I started hand washing.....it does take more effort but my clothes are cleaner and last longer. Washing machine is just a waste of money tbh.
Leila Zahra I apologize, no disrespect to you. I take back what I said. You are right, not every one in America is lazy and snobby. I usually think twice before I post a comment. Have a good one.
maybe people who have a ridiculous amount of clothes to wash would rather use a washing machine because idk IT SAVES TIME. It's not laziness it's efficiency
Washing machine is very hard on the clothes, especially jeans, cotton shirts, boxers briefs, etc
Hi there backbone, I realize this is a year later, but I HAD to respond to your comment about "lazy" Americans. I am 49 years old, raised 8 children, worked a full time job all day during the week, worked a part time job at night during the week, coming home from the 1st job just long enough to get dinner for my children, throw some clothes in the washer and hug and kiss my childdren for a few precious, needed moments. Then off I went. For 4 years, I worked days, went to school nights and worked a second job on weekends. After 4 years and with a college degree in my hand I began to work only days while my kids were in school. And when the children and I and my husband were all home together at night, believe me when I tell you....... I would MUCH RATHER spend time with , talk with and play with my children. Not stick them in front of aTV while I handwash clothes for 10 people!!!!!! I would have been there all week!!!! There were just too many to do!! NOW, with my husband deceased and only my youngest 19 year old son living here at home with me, I wash my clothes by hand!! Its faster, cleaner and cheaper!!! Now I wish I had a dishwasher!!! lol
@Gaygarious Whut u tell me to shuddup fo. Ain't nuttin rong wif whut I say... I jus sed my mama hat to werk like a slave bak den. She sho dint smile ... but she daid now wish she wuz sstill heah! Not nice to tell no boddy to shuddup. May bee you just prejudice....
This is so not how you wash you clothes by hand u put it in the soapy wather and make a friction and then put it again in the wather etc
but not everybody is rich as u
shes ft
You're making me hot.
This should be entitled how to soak clothes in water not how to wash clothes. Video sucks.
I agree
@kcssnotbubble Use rubber gloves.
Shame about the bloody dog at the end.
Why are you washing in the sink
because people like students have to pay to use washing machines
Because machines can break down unexpectedly and you still have to have clothes to wear.
This not how you hand wash properly.👎
You aren't clever when it comes to commas. Buy a lesson on how to use them lol.
As somebody who grow up in a 3rd world country i could say that this is not the right way to hand wash your clothes. Smh
would you like to share with us what IS the correct way to handwash clothes? I really and sincerely need to know.
my grandma would through them in the mud if she saw me doing this, we scrubbed the with both hands, rinse in clean water, wring the excess water then hang them on a clothes line, with clothes pins, in the hot Jamaican sun, or if its raining hang them on the back porch.
We have brushes to scrub along the collar and stain. 1st soak the clothes. Rinse twice. The 3rd water is when u soak with fabric softner for 5 minutes and hang to dry
