Context?
Alright, but how is this more effective than using those death rays I delivered to your facility yesterday Kyle?
For someone who is definitely not a supervillain, you seem very excited about the idea of cyber augmentation based weaponry Kyle...
Now imagine if this was your actual arm, so you weren't worried about the additional weight of stronger materials, and the stabbing/swinging motion was assisted by internal pistons exerting an equivalent force of power as to what a human sized mantis shrimp would be.... and then you've got the real deal ;D
PhantomSavage this weapon seems more as a hazel to use.
A bladed weapon in your arm, you would most likely go for a katana like blade, or a simple spear head.
The human arm aren't ment to be used this way, a slashing weapon or a simple piercing weapon is far more efficient, in terms of usability.
@@madsvigan2898 i agree but not as cool looking, imagine you being the watermelon that killed Kyle's parents and made him into a supervillain and see your enemy with those and the laser sharks
I was about to comment this, then I saw it as Top comment and went "Neat, now I don't have to!"
@@madsvigan2898 There is also the factor of concealment. Sprouting blades out of your arms makes for easy, sudden selfdefense.
You'll be dumbfounded with maintenance snd the cost of it. Plus, one defect leaves your arm useless. And you can't use sny other weapon.
so no ones going to dispute the fact that A.R.I.A is just kyle's homemade wife right? We got a plankton situation over here

Imagine how much cooler (and maybe more effective) the blade would be if it went fully forward and extended to the maximum. You'd essentially have blades that go double your arm length, and extend via machinery straight into your target. That'd be _so cool_
actually the blades extent and retract, you can see it in game

It says a lot about Kyle that when the prosthetic appendage was revealed he didn't immediately eye the shiny, beautiful edge, and instead looked at the rest of the amazing mechanism.
Watching this made me realize how much more effective this would be compared to just holding a sword. With a mechanical arm and a linkage to eye optics electronics, the pitch and adjustability of the blades dual levers allow for better accuracy and motorized leverage at impact, similar to a spring loaded trigger device. Add in a full synthetic muscle wrap, hydraulic pistons, structural mounting, and a much more solid foundation than a wrist and its a clear winner. Even using two hands the weak point is a grip, even augmented its still a mechanical point. This thing is attached to an internal titanium skeleton. Even better they are always there when not in use and non would be the wiser.
But how do you parry with it? Swords offer you more control than a weapon like this ever could. Those optic electronics could be applied to a sword too only making a sword more precise. If I saw you use that spring thing I would parry it and strike you before you could recover.
@@Subutai_Khan Go high with one of them, either go another direction with the other or extend it and use it for parrying in the style of a punching sword or outright use your arm (with the blade and armor attached to it) for parrying.
Funfact the “拿桑興逸“ in your 2077 background is the kinda sauna where you get the happy ending backage in real life Hong Kong
I think it should be read as 逸興桑拿, as the last two words 桑拿 is pronounced “song-na” for mimicking the sound of “sauna”. 逸興 would be the brand name (pronounced somewhat like “Yik-Hing”)
@@jft0986 you're right but many old schools ads signs reads from right to left and so does the one in the 2077 background
"Wooow. Oh man!"
Real convincing Kyle.😂
lmao
i wonder how many takes he took .
I'm waiting for the HEMA / sword youtubers to start tearing this thing apart lol
I would like to see the comparison between the mechanical advantages and disadvantages
@@SUB0SCORION Well, as was mentioned several times in the video... It's clearly not practical in any way given our current technology. However, if you add artificial muscles/some kind of mechanical force multiplier, it COULD be a pretty nasty weapon. This specific weapon would definitely be a part of an entirely artificial limb, probably hidden inside the limb until necessary to deploy for combat. Just making it into a weapon you can mount on your arm is just not gonna be that useful.
@@KhronicD The arm is really the secret to a cyborg arm blade working. Even if it were no bigger and deadlier than, say, a hunting knife rather than a sword, the ability to run up someone while seemingly empty-handed, shank them, and then run away with no weapon visible on your person or discarded to become evidence is not to be taken lightly.
10:56 Mistress Thea DEFINITELY would. I've seen her do it. I'm still scaroused.

Ok that mantis shrimp with the spears officially freaks me out more than coconut crabs (treecrabs)
Fortunately, most mantis shrimp are rather small ambush predators (about 10 cm or 4 in long, though the largest species can be up to 4 times that large), so they don't pose much threat to, or have much interest in attacking, a human. Though if they do decide to attack, it will hurt a lot.

this channel is so bomb it’s almost like a mix of nostalgic immersion with the futuristic sets and other characters, but also so humorous with the light sarcasm and nonchalant attitude
So tomorrow's video is going to be about the muscles, right?
Nah let's get the Monowire..and no it's not a laser whip..it's a mono-filamant wire..though I don't think Kyle has the budget for carbon nanotube which would allow it to be hated up which is more than likely what gives it the glow.
@@ShinKyuubi That might not actually be it glowing, it could be an artificial highlight in the users vision ala HUD specifically so the user can actually track the wire.
@@Sorain1 VERY possible, if one thing I've noticed about mono-filament/Micro-filament wires in anime is that the stuff is dang near impossible to see except for if the light catches it JUST right, ninja series use them for setting traps because of that and Walter from Hellsing can slice vampires to ribbons using his wires even before he got modified for his final fight with Alucard.
@@ShinKyuubi Yeah. The ability to see it is basically a medium convention. Something that thin would be impossible to see with human eye. Which doesn't mean it can't have something stuck on it (liquids for example) that is thick enough to notice. The 'shiny visibility' isn't entirely BS though, human eyes care about movement and reflection a LOT so it might be possible to spot if it's reflective index is high enough. But it's unlikely. Having a nice visible location for your wire to help with safe use makes total sense to me. Depending on how the wire works, it could tense enough (if it's a piezoelectric meta-material for example) to help you handle it safely. Given that monowire isn't going to be cheap, it's reasonable to assume a manufacturer would include drivers for HUD's to mark it's location in real time. At least, I'd make that assumption if I was laying down specifications for such an implant.
@@Sorain1 Yeah, and given the fact the player uses a fake fingernail and their off hand to hold onto said nail and part of the wire, it heating up would make little sense seeing as it would be able to cut through the user's hand. The HUD lighting makes more sense when I think about it, especially given the fact IRL they ARE working on AR contact lenses..tech in 2077 and augmented humans to the level we see would make something like that easy to do.

@@widdershins5383 Oh good. Can't wait to see how Shad manages to suck the fun out of that.
@@storyspren probably not a whole lot different I’d think, maybe a bit more pugilistic than classical swordsmanship, there would definitely be trade offs on maneuverability. I’d think the major difference would be when they snap out into a stabbing motion, if they got a working simulacrum of that, but depending on how hard that was it could possibly snap your forearm, unless you replaced your entire forearm for stabilizing it lol

Very cool I’ll def make one of these for myself in the future
This was really cool but I wish the blade would extend when you extended your elbow to give it more force and speed
I think that would hamper the performance unless you had reinforcement on your arms and core to handle the wacky inertial effects.
A weapon is easy to handle if it functions as and extension of your limb, but if the balance is actively shifting it's going to throw you off. Specifically in this case, some of that force that extends the blade forward is going to be wasted on pushing your arm and body backward, and your efforts to compensate for that push will reduce the amount of power and dexterity you can put into the blow. Your least awkward means of wielding it would be to hold your arm steady and let the moving blade do all the work, but then you're most likely losing power compared to a basic swinging motion anyway.
Hey Kyle if you like the cyberpunk style you should watch akudama drive
That cackle when Kyle "Definitely-Not-A-Supervillain" Hill pulls out that fake skull is beautiful.
Also, in case you would like some assurance as to how the show has improved overtime in the viewers' eyes, I would like to tell you how I've described your show over the years. When you were back on Nerdist, I explained your show to friends who hadn't heard of you as "kinda like Game Theory, but prioritizes information over views." By the time you were on a separate Because Science channel, I described your show as "Game Theory-type-niche, but more broad-nerdy and more information." Now that you are your own administrator, I describe The Facility with "imagine if Bill Nye was a millenial and looked like Thor, but hotter, and that's The Facility." You are doing a good job, and you are making a difference in the world. Thank you so much for all the work you have put into this, and I can't wait to see things continue into the future.
