3 things i hate about the Xmaxx are:
The servo, Should be metal geared or true 1/5 servo.
The tyres, they are light and perform well, but they need thicker rubber or belts to stop them from exploding, or just halve the price 😂
Last issue isnt with the truck it self, just that its hard to find places where you can really enjoy the truck. Hammering around a grass field isnt fun for long 😅

    • @noobrXGamingOmg

I belted my tires by myself with very fine stainless steel mesh glued into it from the inside.
You also can use a steel wire and put it in the center profile groove we’re it runs very straight and twist the ends..
That also helps the tires to not Ballon like hell

    • @ManuelOrtizification
      @ManuelOrtizification Před 2 lety +1

@@noobrXGamingOmg yeah or just get a set of Louise X wheels for it. They're belted, half the price, and twice as thick so they virtually never rip and if they do, they hold together really well thanks to the belts 😉

Biggest thing I didn't like was hauling it around. Buying a bag for it made it better to own, but after 3 years loving it, I didn't want an rc that big anymore. I was attempting to trade it for a Maxx, but the Maxx isn't big enough lol. I wish they made a mid Maxx. In between the xmaxx and Maxx, would be perfect to me.
2nd thing was, why on earth did they put the heavier diff fluid in the rear dif??? And rear shock springs were a total miss. Useless, even with my lean setup. In the end, I swapped the front and rear diffs to setup like every other 3 diff 4wd vehicle in the world, thinned the 20 million wt center diff fluid very slightly to help bleed just a little power off to the front wheels so that I could use more throttle leaving the turns without lifting the front end and it was the best handling Mt I've ever ran. So nimble and controllable.
    My only 2 gripes.
Once I lowered the xmaxx a little, tuned the diff fluids, tuned the shock oil and springs, and ran some lightweight 5200 60c batteries, the power system and tires worked very well together and did not seem under powered at all.
Running on a track against my buds x with mega power system with huge packs and proline tires, mine handled like a truggy, his handled like a wrecking ball.

Awesome truck for sure. There are tons of tire options for this truck. Probably the most options of all the bigger scaled rigs. Good points. As far as the X-Maxx goes I feel everyone should own one. Truly epic beast of a truck.
There's a reason it's considered by many, the King of all bashers.
I'm neither a Traxxas or Arrma fan boy as I own both, plus a lot of other manufacturers cars.
Mine must be a freak as I run all the stock electronics. My steering servo has held up perfectly for now on 20 months. The stock ESC is fine if you use good quality LiPos. (Though I have a HW max6 waiting to go in with the 6S 1600kv motor).
Only mods on mine is 50wt shock oil all round (Try it.. make the car so much better when you bash)
The RPM rear hub carriers and that's it. Traxxas nailed it with this truck and it gets a lot of attention anywhere you drive it lol.
As for the tyres and gear train. I'm probably preaching to the choir here but don't use the self righting feature. I've blown tyres apart before and many I bash with have stripped gears and done a lot of damage to their drive trains using it. Look if its square on its roof maybe, but I'd rather walk over and flip it rather risk ending my day early.
Good points though Mark... Think it's time to unleash the beast this weekend!!

I jumped back into r/c heavy this year. My wife got the hoss and I got the eRevo 2.0. I love my eRevo but it's big and requires 2 batteries. For just driving in my yard and in the driveway, it's just too big. I have to commit to going to a park or running in the street. To big, fast and powerful.
End up driving my wife's Hoss at home. 1 battery endless wheelies, easy to manuver around the yard.
Just converted my OG Revo 2.5 into Brushless and it's great for home bashing. 1 3s battey and almost as manuverable as the Hoss.
The point : Bigger isn't always better. There are significant tradeoffs to consider.

The "reason" for your first complaint is the same as for your second - as great as Traxxas products are, Traxxas (as a company) is somewhat "cheap", and (like Apple) they send to purposely focus out ways to take as much money as possible from their customers. Case in point - the servo. Sure, they could have put the 2085X in, and the increase in manufacturer cost would have been very minimal. Even though they sell for $100, their cost is probably closer to $25...so, even if they raised the truck price by $50, they'd be Manning an additional $25. BUT...here comes the "money grubbing" part...Traxxas knows the 2085 is garbage, and they know people will spend extra to get the 2085X. So, in the end, they actually get an additional $75 profit from us. Of course, to "allow" people to use standard size servos, they came up with the 'adapter', which might sell for $6, but they're manicuring cost is problems led than $1.
Moving to your third 'problem', you forgot that Pro-Line DOES make another tire option for the X-MAXX. Also, not only is it better than the other two Pro-Line X-MAXX tires (and, possibly, even better than the OEM tire), but, it's also light...almost as light as the OEM wheel/tire - the Masher X HP. So...problem #3 solved. Getting to problem #4, the "solution" is directly related to problem #1...the motor/ESC. You mention the HW combo, but I try to avoid HW at all costs (I won't go into details, but I've had more than a few problems with HW, especially with their customer dis-service). For mine, I went the Castle route - MMX-8S ESC & 1717-1260kv motor. Or provided a slight "power boost", without having to change gearing. Castle, btw, had always provided beyond-exceptional customer service. This allows you to leave the stock connectors on the ESC (no video warranty). It also allows you to use whatever connectors on the replacement ESC, which also greatly opens up other battery choices.
Finally, as to your fifth reason...well...that's one I'm sure ALL X-MAXX owners (and owners of any similar (ex. Arrma Kraton 8S) completely understand, and can agree with. This thing is a BEAST...figuratively, and literally. I own an X-MAXX, but I didn't "buy" it - I bought a new 'roller' from an RC chop shop (no, not Jenny's, but similar), and built it up from there. Even though it was just a roller, or was shipped in the original box, so I already had an idea how big/heavy it would be. Even then, I absolutely love this thing. Like you, I don't get to run it as often as I'd like...partly because of my job, and Pauly because of my other RCs...but, I wouldn't get rid of it.
    That's my 4-cents worth (inflation).
    Bash (and race) on.

      @DanDblU Před 2 lety +1

Great Points Robb Ryan :) I responded similarly above. As you said, it's all about Gross Margin. Traxxas KNOWS what they're doing...MAXIMIZE PROFITS is the name of the game...! Certain parts of the Xmaxx is designed to break after a few runs so they can sell you more parts! Plastic servo horns, cheap wheel bearings, not so great tires...all designed to fail in the short term.

@@smperkins410 First, I meant 'cheap' as in "money-grubbing" (like Apple). Yes, Traxxas uses more plastic, but it is NOT "low-quality" plastic. Comparing the Kraton 8S & X-MAXX 8S (the cloest X-MAXX comparison I can tghink of), I've seen, read, and heard about FAR more breakages with the Arrma. As for your 'assesment' on what the Traxxas prices "should be", while I'll agree thry could/should be lower, you are WAY off on your $600 'guess'...the Kraton 8S (again, the closest X-MAXX competitor) , as well as the Outcast 8S, are BOTH only $30 less ($970 vs 1000). Again, I agree thaqt Traxxas has their prices set higher than they need to be...but, NOT $400 too high.

I know it's to save money, but for an expensive truck it should be included. It always baffled me that Traxxas doesn't include a transmitter with their basic Slash and Bandit that has a control for steering travel. A lot of the drivers who buy those cars need that. It saves then a little bit money, but it should be included.

They know that stock 2085 is going to break and you'll have to upgrade to a 2085x for $100, OR at the minimum buy their servo adapter so you can fit a non-Traxxas servo. Almost everyone I know w an Xmaxx has killed the stock servo in the 1st few runs. Traxxas KNOWS what they're doing! That's also why they use a cheap plastic servo horn....guaranteed to strip! I’ve been into Rc for a very long time. Mostly run track cars at various indoor and outdoor tracks, 1/10 and 1/8, electrics and nitros.
As far as basher trucks are concerned, the xmaxx is THE best! I like my kraton exb a lot as well. Both my xmaxx and kraton are juiced, crazy fast heavy servos, hobbywing 1/5 system in the max and castle monster in the kraton.I like both for different reason and will grab either depending upon my mood. If I had to choose only one, it would probably be the max, especially now that one can get the wide maxx kit for it. That way if you want it to be more truggy like, that’s an option. I’m not going wide maxx however, I like the monster truck goofy playfulness.
There’s not a single person who sees that xmaxx screaming across a field doing wheelies, hammering through bushes, or launching off the hills at my local park that isn’t completely amazed at how cool that thing is. Combine all the above with how easy it is to replace parts on the xmaxx when it does break and we have a winner!
And by the way, if you cry about carrying it when you break it, either take the kids with you so they can wheel it out like a wagon or do more bicep curls you bunch of girly men.

Keep your warranty just swap out the esc for a max 6 and use the gens ace basher lipos. You’ll still have the Traxxas esc in the same condition you got it in but now it’s sitting on the shelf out of the truck 😂

Yep, Duratrax and Louise sell the same tyres, theres a 3rd brand that i cant remember off the top of my head, but they are about half the price of traxxas, not much heavier, and just as durable as the prolines.
The only real issue with them is that they arent bead locks, so if shit gets inside, its a bit of a pain trying to unmount them to clean inside 😅

  • @radioflitercairplanes1715

It's a sick truck ! It's massive size makes such a statement. The tires it comes with are not the best , BUT they are great for rips around the yard, for serious sessions at the skate park doing sky high jumps or freestyle madness in the woods, we usually toss steel belted tires. The servo is a mist do mod or upgrade once the stock one bites the bullet. Rear RPM hub carriers are a must when stock ones break. As far as dengerous...my airplanes, helicopters ...F.E. boats ALL can be dangerous and have to be respected..heck walking out the front door these days is dangerous!
I say , if your gonna run best to make everyone (ESPECIALLY SPECTATORS) stay far enough back, that if something goes crazy they are hopefully out of the way.
The Xmaxx is one of my favorite R/C Monsters. The 8S Kraton is a very close second , but is more of a truggy , than a monster. Both awesome , ea different from ea other.

It don't sound like a lot but that's plenty on this big of a truck hahahahaha. Duratrax six pack x's or the hatchet x's are an in between weight for the tires that are decent. I've heard some have them crack wheels jumping but i don't really jump that often. My max6 truck runs the six packs and my wild build max5/800kv combo geared 1:1 runs the hatchets.
