Wow, I was thinking i will have to comment that they should talk to Josh and Erin and 30 seconds later Mike said he'd spoke w you! Beautiful country! I'm in Hickory NC, Blue Ridge Parkway just minutes away. Was a touching ending, planting flowers on Chucky's grave. I watched twice. Love you guys!
First of all Mike and Melissa I want to say, “Congratulations on the purchase of the 40 acres in West Virginia.” Just to see the smile and expression on your faces saids it all, how happy you both are with this fantastic Morgan news. We’re happy for you both, you have worked hard and you well deserved this happiness.
Congrats Mike, awesome purchase. At least you got meeting the county mounty out of the way. Sheriff Paul "Moe" Pritt of Preston county, make sure you pay your taxes lol. My home is way south of y'all I was raised near Doe Hill Va. Trying to explain being from Moyers WV (more of an area than a place) would be impossible. WWOG has a nice place also, quiet peaceful country for sure. Having water and standing timber are about the two most important things for a pc of land (unless cleared for farming) & that the ground is somewhat level. If you look at the maps, when VA & WV split, they took all the large, flat farmland and left us with the mountains. What they didn't plan on was WV being so rich in natural resources. By the time they figured out their mistake, it was too late. Might want to put up some posted signs early and put a notice in the paper to cover yourself to aid in keeping people off your land. If theres no one to guard your stuff, would be a good time to meet your neighbors. Small, thoughtful greetings can go a long ways with country folks. Welcome to the neighborhood.
My father had relatives in Terra Alta West Virginia. His uncle ran the dairy farm at the Hopemont Hospital there. Originally it was a tuberculosis sanatorium. I was told this saved the uncles life. A bull gored him. The hospital was one of the few places at the time which could deal with lung injuries like his. I remember there were large, for West Virginia, relatively flat areas near there. It is said " West Virginia is the biggest State in the Union.. They just have to figure out how to flatten it out. Morgantown where the University is, would give San Francisco a run for it money in the steepness of its streets. My grandfather was a coal miner, while my father created and an 80 acre dairy farm for him after WW2. The land rolled enough to make on sea sick. The Morgan scored to find such a perfect place. The forest is beautiful. It is ever more beautiful with Melissa striding through it. She share many qualities with the pines. Both are Tall slender, strong and ageless. At 2:29 there is is an Easter Egg of Melissa gracing a log. At 2:31 She appears like a Wood's nymph, among the ferns.. It warms my heart knowing more land I love is now in the hands of people I love as well. God bless and protect all Morgans.
I lived in Preston County for 40yrs and you will love the area. Wait till you see the Winter time weather...if you build a cabin remember too stock up in the winter time. Ask the older locals about the wimters in the mid to late 70's. Congrats!!!

Not sure if I didn't press the comment button, but I'll post again. Having been born in West Virginia and having lived here most of my life, I think that you made a great choice. I know the Terra Alta area pretty well since I used to go to camp there in the summer and had to drive through there in the winter as I returned to college from home through Oakland, Terra Alta, and Kingwood to Morgantown. You are correct about the snow. They get a lot, but Preston County is pretty good about snow removal. I remember that if I could get through Evan's Curve (search for it), then i would be able to get to Morgantown. This was before I 68. West Virginians are good people, but sometimes wary of strangers and their motivation. Our state has a history of its resources being preyed upon by outsiders. I believe that the deputy may have seen your license plate and been concerned about your motivation. I am sure that the area where you purchased the land is quiet. That is why there is a lot of wildlife there. West Virginia was wild and wonderful and has remained wild and wonderful because we haven't been overdeveloped. I believe that that is a good thing. You mentioned no zoning, driving on roads with your side-by-side, building pavillions for youtubers, etc. That being said, I hope that you will use moderation in whatever you do there, respecting nature and other people's rights, too. Congratulations and enjoy what our state has to offer!
