- This is a review of the SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL 2023 wireless. A keyboard that's full of awesome features including upgraded OmniPoint 2.0 adjustable switches, a mass of customisable settings including dual-actuation switches and much more besides. It's still a bit loud, but also seems to be nicely dampened where it matters. Here I'm unboxing and showing this keyboard off, doing a sound test, talking about my experience with it and showing you what's possible in the software too.

Real good Review/Tutorial, just bought that keyboard. Thanks!
Great sound test - liked the zoomed in video with the keypresses. Thank you!
For a Prawn, you sure do make good videos. Love watching your content.
Haha. Thanks Mike.
Really good review, a lot more thorough than others I've seen. Just ordered myself one now.
Hope you enjoy it!
Great video! I bought one myself two weeks ago. Wanted a great mechanical keyboard thats still wireless and found this. Still learning all the features, love the looks and feel of it.
how do you like it, if you still have it or for the time you used it?
@@yanzi1957 loved the looks and feel of it. Versatility of wireless. Had the Aerox 5 along with it. Got tired of the battery life after about 1 year for both the keyboard and mouse so I switched to a wired instead. I found their software to be a bit bloated and the update procedures could be simpler. Still have a nova pro wireless that I use along with it that is awesome.
@@MarX485 What is the best for less latence Bluetooth 5.0 or 2,4GHz ?
@@Vadeal001 Haven’t tried comparing them actually. Always ran with 2,4.
@@MarX485 ok no problem
I ordered a keyboard and buttons for it
Thank you for the video
I really liked the keyboard😉
Glad you enjoyed it 🦐thanks for watching. 👍
Awesome in depth review, loved the thoughtfulness of the analysis and the production of the video. Looks like a stunning keyboard too 🙂
Thanks a ton!
Thank you, I was looking for keyboard thought to buy razer but I change mind, gonna buy this keyboard 👍🏻
Very good video thank you i added it to my christmas wishlist!
Glad I could help!
@@TheProvokedPrawn yeah thank u
At the end you can hear the Keyboard really good!
I'm appreciating your detail as I'm about to get this. I wanted the original over a year ago and decided to wait for what I hoped they would do and that's make it cordless.
hey i know this is random, but what's the point in a wireless keyboard? im genuinely asking because to me it makes no sense. i understand a wireless mouse or headset because you are moving them a lot, but a keyboard? it just sits there on the desk, and if you need to travel with it then most have a detachable cable anyway. i dont see the point in having one extra thing to charge
@@bltelysian I personally prefer wireless because it would be a little more inconvenient to work my setup with a wired keyboard (I work from a laptop). Also I sometimes connect my laptop to my tv. A wireless keyboard makes it so I can use my keyboard from far away when it’s connected to the tv.
@@bltelysian couple of things for me. I have 2 keyboards which I use for different things - much more convenient with wireless. Also, I connect the keyboards to multiple devices and switching the cables would be a real pita.
@@bltelysian I want to play on my big 4K TV. I use GeForce Now to play titles available only on PC and I need wireless keyboard and mouse to comfortably play some games that are not suitable for a controller.
This video made me buy the Keycaos right after ordering the keyboard
Great and informative video. I didn't catch what you meant about the screen - i still didn't manage to set it up to display media info or even change tracks as there are no media keys other than mute?
I tried getting the Audio Visualizer applet to work but it wouldn't do anything for me, maybe I didn't have enough patience so I've just put on the system info on. I'm hoping they add more useful apps as otherwise the screen isn't of much use for me.
Once you dial it in, I can’t overstate how powerful the dual-function keys are. It has greatly simplified my MMO rotation workflow.
I own the non-wireless version and think it’s astonishing.
what are you using how? Just curious cause i cant think of how it would work in the heat of the moment battle
also curious
@@dom_leary Super late reply here and not the original poster, but I use this for MMORPG workflows with things like the same cast but 2 different spell levels depending on the key press level. Another one is short press for a common cast and long press for the same cast + cooldowns.
Great video! does the apex pro tkl 2023 wireless sound the same to the old apex pro tkl?
It’s 0.1mm adjustable now with the latest updates a few days ago
Perhaps a Steelseries apex 9 vs Steelseries apex pro regarding the different switches(optipoint vs omnipoint 2) , since there is a differnce in price also, could be usefull!!! Thank you
The best part about this keyboard is the actuation force is realistically somewhere around 35 to 37 g less than what stated on the box. Which makes it the lightest actuation force that you can buy. Couple that with the actuation point itself of 2 mm but in testing it's actually 1 mm and you have the fastest keyboard for FPS gaming
Do you know if the 2023 wired version have the same actuation force as the wireless version? Also, does the old version have the same actuation force or are they heavier?
@@ej9806 Funny enough the only difference is the display on the top right. The switches are all the same. My old Apex Pro TKL pre 2023 versions just had a software update giving them the same features as the new ones.
@@GOD4SENPAI this is why I bought the previous version lmao. I prefer the build quality of the previous version as well
@@GOD4SENPAI actually the switch are not the same and also the keycaps are in double shot PBT, and it s wireless also so 3 points for the new version who get it better, the only negativ point is the back plate who is not in aluminium anymore ! also the feeling of the switches are more stable but less buttered you feel the pressure the switches way better !
Anything known about them making the updated 2023 model for Full Size? I'm not a fan of TKLs but would really like this keyboard.
why arent you a fan of tkls? numpads basically useless
Its necesary have open the app of steelseries too keep the configuration? Or u can close the program to play?? Sorry for my english !! Hi from spain
Great review! Do you know if you can use same usb dongle to connect this keyboard and steelseries wireless mouse (I have aerox 3 wireless) ?
no I have both and you require both dongles
0.1mm actuation is coming to the Apex Pro. It was answered in SteelSeries’ latest Twitch stream.
Can you have different profiles for actuation lengths? For example, what if I want my actuation force all the way while typing, but not while gaming? Can you set up profiles for that, or do you do it manually each time you want to switch?
Use onboard controls to quickly change the global actuation point of your OmniPoint switches. Hold the SteelSeries function key and press “I” for a deeper actuation or “O” for lighter, more sensitive actuation. The number row will light up to indicate the current level (1-0, with 1 being the lightest).
You can have multiple profiles for that. I got one for gaming and one for typing.
If it was possible to get those Omnipoint Switches aftermarket and put them in hot-swap boards...I'm pretty sure most 45-gram switches would be obsolete.
I want the apex pro to act like a controller stick. I dont have a problem with pressing shift in cyberpunk or so, but i dont like it, if i just can run or shift run (sprint)
Is there a possibility, that i set the w, a, s, d that i can make it work like a stick and do the slow going? I rlly have no clue to do that with this software and keyboard. I love the keyboard anyway, i had the aethon acer 301 before, so its waay better, but i thought that would be possible, too 😅
Should i get apex pro tkl 2019 or apex pro tkl 2023 🤔
One question. Why is the back stroke and the hashtag key always different colours??
Are your hands ok without write rest with this keyboard ?
Does this sound better than the apex pro mini?
Im stuck on picking a wireless keyboard. This is the only one that seems reasonable. I only want a TKL and there arn't that many that impress me by looks and such. Any advice?
Look at the ROG AZOTH. Loving mine. I was looking for a TKL as well but the AZOTH isnt. Honestly im glad i got this instead.
why was the rgb on the hashtag a different colour just wondering?
two key caps are differernt then the other w
hy?
Hello, Does anyone know if steelseries will create this keyboard with nordic version as well?
I'm trying to see what it's like switching between paired bluetooth devices on this keyboard. Can anyone help me out. I currently use a Keychron K6 to jump between PC and Laptop very often and it's very quick and easy. Does anyone know how you switch devices on this board?
Would this be an easy keyboard to mod (i.e. adding foam, switch lubing, swapping springs, etc.)?
No, it’s not hotswap.
Yes, it's easy to mod, but you cannot hotswap it.
Has anyone had an issue where it only works plugged in? If I don't have it plugged in, it looks like it thinks the battery is not charged and so switches off straight away. It's like it does not read the correct battery levels in wireless and thinks it is empty
how did you not address the broken led's?
I dont know why people are wanting omnipoint switches on the f row and arrow keys as you dont even use them while gaming, they did this to bring the cost of the keyboard down
arrow keys i can somewhat see, as some leftys use them as WASD, but the f keys and the navigation square have no use being omnipoint lmao
why your # key is flashing with different rate???
Hmm, I got mine about a week ago and the Enter Key is rectangular (smaller footprint), unlike yours.
That's to do with regional layouts. Mine is UK.
Any idea how to solve the # and \ keys being whatever colour they desire? I see your keyboard is identical in that no matter what settings you use, those 2 particular keys are stuck in default lighting.
I have the same issue 😢
If ya find anything lmk pls
Same here.
Had the same issue with Logitech G PRO keyboard, it must be tied to the actual layout of the keyboard since in software it shows US layout
@@Wolf7ech Very frustrating but seems to be true. Continues to be a problem even now.
As a german, i went to the netherlands to get the qwerty version just becouse i hate the qwertz layout, its just wrong.
i bought this keyboard three days ago and it looks nice, but i had some problems when i first used it. Sometimes when i press a key once it inputs twice or more times which is super annoying when im typing, and one time i was trying to login to my steam and it took me 15 minutes to figure out that when i press 'T' one time it inputs two signals and types two 'T' into my password and hence making it incorrect, i literally have to use my old keyboard to put my passwords. and at last i went to the setup fixed it, had to make everything as simple as possible for me to use it lol
Go to your actuation settings and reset them to default or set a lower actuation point. Chances are it's because the keys are actuating too soon and thus doubling up (or more). I had the same problem at first. Set every key to 1.8 or 2mm actuation and it should be better for typing.
@@TheProvokedPrawn, I also have this keyboard, and have the very same issue you indicated. I also noticed that even going to the actuation view in the keyboard screen, the problem gets resolved. however, this problem happens whenever you turn the keyboard off and on, and when you wake the keyboard after some time. And again going to the actuation settings on the keyboard resolves it but it always set the actuation to 1.8. So you need to set it every time which is very very annoying.
Additionally, this is not a problem in Bluetooth mode, so you might switch to Bluetooth until it is resolved.
I should admit that it is quite annoying right now. I already reported this issue to steelseries, waiting for an answer.
Lol i have the same issues with my Steelseries apex 7
theres one key with different led light xD
Can you do wooting
Please can someone tell me definitively if you can set rgb and actuation profiles with the software, save it directly to the keyboard then uninstall the software forever? Razer force you to have their buggy bloatware shitty synapse software running at all times and i'd very much like to avoid that kind of behaviour again.
this vs Deathstalker v2 pro?
What would you use, deathstalker v2 pro or apex pro 2023?
i believe provoeked prawn said he prefers steelseries over razer in an older comment czcams.com/video/tmE4aa4V4uU/video.html but maybe something has changed since then . Perhaps a comarison of the software of the two companies would be interesting as well. thank you.
wooting or razer
Wooting 60HE
Returned mine and built a custom
Why cant they make silent keys =( I dont think I can ever replace my Ducky one, you can hardly hear it except for the space bar.
they have a muffler kit. No idea how effective it is or how much it changes the feel though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Great keyboard (I have the original version), but HUGE caveat. I got mine about two and a half years ago. First, the ugly: This keyboard has a known flaw with a low quality sensor that can cause the volume knob to literally change your volume backwards 40% of the time. Steelseries support is dogshit, requires video evidence, and will still tell you to kick sand even if they manage to even read your message correctly or don't prematurely close your ticket. The bad: your keycaps WILL start to degrade, chip, and blur due to the ABS plastic, after about 18 months, although you can get a replacement set of keycaps for 15 bucks from their shop if needed. The OLED can be set up to display your system temps which is nice but you will probably forget it exists after a month or two. And finally, the keyboard does get a bit hairy and dusty underneath which compressed air only partly fixes.
On the plus side however, the typing experience is smooth, buttery, and divine. If you like me have a few keys you tend to accidentally press (looking at you, number keys, for some reason, and the letter j) you can individually set their actuation to reduce mistypes. The RGB is simply incredible and probably one of the best you can buy. The macro software works pretty decent. The wrist rest I personally find to be incredible (I don't actually like the puffy soft ones). The form factor is good and the construction is very very solid (other than, of course, the aforementioned faulty internal sensor, no idea if they fixed it this time around or not).
How do you sort out the odd light?
Did you figure this out?
Wait why is your enter key different from the normal ones? Must be a regional difference
Yup. And left shift.
It's called ISO layout
Can I use this version as wired if I want to ?
Yes you can.
Why it didn't work on PS4?
i can see that on ur hashtag key, the RGB wont change to be like the rest. i have that problem too. have you figured out a fix at all?
i actually have the problem on my hashtag and my backspace button
Can you keep this plugged in all the time?
Of course
good job P.P.
Thanks Christos
Would you say this is better than the Razer Deathstalker v2 Pro TKL Wireless?
Personally no
@@TheProvokedPrawn thank you! I've been torn between the Deathstalker V2 Pro TKL, Apex Pro TKL and the Corsair k100 air wireless. Which would you pick out of those 3?
without a doubt the apex is way better than the deathstalker v2 pro especiallty in the quality of the switches and the rattling of the deathstalker is just amazing ! it s hurt your ears, the low profil is not my way to play videogames, also this keyboard is faster, the only thing who is good with the razer it will be maybe the quality build which is great ! the apex pro is good also but the backplate it s not alumium anymore ! actually the 2 best keyboards on the market are the hooting 60 and the apex pro 2023 with no doubt :)
Space bar isn't that bad actually
Got the same keyboard, and your spacebar is lot quieter than mine. Why is that?
Luck of the draw? I've not done anything to it.
@@TheProvokedPrawn Weird, the spacebar sounds like an old IBM keyboard on mine. All of the other keys sound nice and crisp though.
@@jim_carry maybe he has a thicker desk and thicker desk pad idk
@@DonPolloGamin I ended up returning the Steelseries keyboard because it was driving me crazy. went with a Keychron K10 and couldn't be happier with my decision.
What are the white key caps
SteelSeries Prism. See the description
so the keyboard suks.. it resets the actuation time to 1.8 after every sleep/unsleep cycle to 1.8 you can see it on oled screen in keyboard or software if using onboard profile
Is it me or does it seem like this keyboard hasn’t gotten as much press as the first apex pro?
cus its said and done. ngl i wish they had changed a bit more with the new apex pro's but a worthy upgrade nonetheless.
Did you stop using G915?
No
i have one and i don't recommend the RGBs burn way to fast and its impossible to repair them
you have the 2023 model and it's broken already?
@@TheProvokedPrawn no i have one of older models but i don't think it should make a difference because when i search it i found lots of people having the same problem , don't get me wrong so far the keyboard is doing its main job , but when you pay +200$ for a keyboard you expect to receive a good quality too
RGB burn? Can you explain
@@RokuX51 they stop functioning
Keyboard key presses sound really loud!
# is defective ? The color was odd
Pretty sure he did that because he wanted to trigger the people with ocd.
He has a UK model but keyboard is set to US in the software, that's the reason.
It's disappointing that the OmniPoint Switch is still not used at all, and that the price is too high.
When’s the sound test
At the end
they are all sold out :(
wooting better
his voice sounds so seducing 😵💫
Yeah I edged through the whole video
Not gonna lie ... I understand how the other custom keyboard user felt now ....... After I use custom keyboard myself ... these gaming keyboard's sound made me cringe x'D
don't get me wrong ... Its a fantastic and PERFECT Gaming keyboard ... its just the sound that came out of it while typing hurts me ..especially for those prices
Estéticamente o Apex Pro TKL original é melhor.
everything was great until the sound test, now i don’t think I will be getting this keyboard
oof I thought you were slating my video then :(
The sound is honestly terrible (compared to a custom one, obviously)... but the idea of the keyboard and the design is not bad at all. Overall I think its price could be more around $180
no numpad is a downgrade not a upgrade
That's very subjective. Some people don't need or want a numpad
@@TheProvokedPrawn it changes the price by 50 dollars when you remove the numpad
plus theres a ton of games that require a numpad
Sounds very annoying (the keyboard!)
bruh it is 2022
I know but that's their naming.
It’s because in 2022 they’re producing the product and sell the product at the end of the year. Car companies do this as well. I bought my 2015 Scion tC in December of 2014 with 256 miles already on it.
Sounds like a cutlery draw falling down stairs. Yugh...
shading on the lettering is terrible and poorly thought out given the pricepoint.. why are there 4 keys that stand out... especially for a keyboard code that is obscure and unused at best. the lettering should be better visible with 0 lighting artifacts.. not high contrast but subdued.
