  • This is a short video of revision tips that is designed to help students who are studying towards CIPS Level 4, Module 2 (L4M2) Defining Business Needs. This covers learning outcome 1 which helps students to understand how to devise a business case for requirements to be sourced from external suppliers. Including how business needs influence procurement decisions, how costs and prices can be estimated for procurement activities, the criteria that can be applied in the creation of a business case and how to interpret financial budgets for the control of purchases.

Thank you for this. The book 1.1 goes in to huge detail. However, the learning outcome summary is quite straightforward. I feel like the book have over detailed 1.1

I'm writing m2 in May and I'm terried. I notice the questions look more difficult especially when I just completed the advanced Certificate. The multiple choice questions seem very long.

Due to sit my first exam in March; your videos are an absolute godsend! There seems to be quite a lot of financial ratios across level 4, which ones would you recommend focusing on most? Just want to ensure I’m not spending too much time on one thing as there’s so much to learn. Thanks!

Can you put a short video on what is MCIPS and FCIPS and what should be the career plan for people in the procurement industry for the next 5 years. Studying these levels are important or just getting MCIPS is better

There is a lot of things I liked about it, and it gives a good short guide through the chapter, but the video often jumps forward and back in the subjects which can be confusing if you already read the ebook. Sometimes narration is not clear and she speaks too fast, which can be a problem if English is not your first language and it is a problem if there is a lot to read on the slides. Some slides have too much details on them and they are moved from the screen quickly while others have none and stay for 3 minutes. The issues map is too small to see. A few important topics were not mentioned at all.
I think this is a good summary but feels not comprehensive, perhaps only this chapter which was my first video. Look forward to see the others.
It is still a great help, for me personally it’s more of a reassurance that I didn’t miss something from the book. Thank you.

Thanks for your feedback Kristina. These are just revision videos centered around the learning outcomes rather than parroting things directly from the books. It is intended that you use this alongside your learning from the books rather that instead of the book. They also do ask questions that aren't in the book so I try to add extra material to help you. In terms of speed you can choose to amend the playback speed in the settings to slow it down if you find it too fast. Also I suggest you pause every so often to make notes before going to the next slide.

Many thanks, and it also makes sense. To me personally this one video didn’t add to the book, but it helps organising my thoughts around topics for sure. I still think a bit slower presentation would add, but of course I can pause it. Look forward to watch the others! Thanks for your reply! :)

    Hello,
Wondering if you could help with the following question from LO1 1.4:
Explain why an item may have a different value in the profit and loss account, from that in a cash flow statement? Give three examples of items that have such a difference?
Having read back through the topic, I am struggling to understand in what context they mean 'Item'? If referring to product, they do not offer any examlples? Are they actually referring to the varying elements of the Cash Flow Cycle? If you could provide some guidance as to how to understand the context I would be grateful.
    Thanks
    Chris

The P&L will include accruals for things that haven't been paid for or received yet. Cash flow is based on an actual receipt or payment.
example - an item you have bought that is on 30 days payment terms would not have hit the cash flow statement until it happens but will be accrued on a P&L
