To be fair, it was not post-COVID when the show finished filming, it was still in the the throes of COVID. They were filming in August/September 2020, and there was still not any vaccines.

yep. Unlike angels where they always heal their vessel, demons can't heal.
Demons can possess dead bodies but they don't kill the vessels.
