- Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem is a simulator ride attraction at Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Hollywood. The attraction is based on Universal Studios and Illumination Entertainment's 2010 animated film Despicable Me and employs the use of 3-D HD digital animation. The attraction replaced Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast in Florida and Terminator 2 3D in Hollywood.
Universal Orlando Resort announced that the attraction is being designed by their Universal Creative company in association with Illumination Entertainment and Despicable Me film producer Chris Meledandri. The ride is a motion simulator and employs the use of high-definition 3-D Infitec projection systems, and features multiple characters from the film, including Gru, Margo, Edith, Agnes and the Minions.
The attraction at Universal Studios Florida is located in Soundstage 42 in the Production Central area. The soundstage previously housed The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera 1990 until 2002 and Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast from 2003 until 2011. The attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood is located on the former site of T2 3-D: Battle Across Time on the Upper Lot.
After the ride, the door opens to a dance party with the public dancing to "Boogie Fever," along with a costumed Minion.

I was one of the designers and animators on this ride (my section was after Gru says "Happy Anniversary!"). It was my first VR project and seeing it at Universal was a real joy. I'm glad so many of you enjoyed it as well.

@@lunahetfield I always get in line no matter what because people in the long line will start to leave because the line is too long and they look at other rides in the universal app and see the Simpsons ride or Jurassic World is like 10 minutes long. Once they leave, a small portion is left and you’re in the ride. :)

This ride gets me emotional (in a good way) every time because I’m adopted. The ending either gets me tears-eyed or I’ll have the tears streaming down my cheeks 😂

Nobody can truly appreciate this ride until they go on it in person. Last time I went, it was in Hollywood. I went twice, and it was fun.

So Basically,Gru Has This Idea Of Turning People Into Minions.He Gives You These Weird Glasses And Your In This Theatre Like Area And The Speakers Tell You Safety Stuff Blah Blah Blah.And In My Experience Of The Ride,There Was This Guy In Speakers Telling Us About Our Items And Stuff,Thing Is,He Sounded Very Bored.So Even Universal Staff Themselves Hate Minions.And You Take The Glasses On And You Become A Minion(temporarily)And Chaos Ensues.

YAY another 3D ride, and I love Despicable Me. I am searching for these rides in Universal Studios places becasue actual rides hurt me. Like between the ears feels uncomfortable. So any rides that simulate a real car with a 3D screen are fine :D

This is one heck of an adventure at Universal Studios. Margo, Edith and Agnes are really happy for their anniversary that Gru and the Minions set up. Best ride ever! In history! Go, Universal!

cat-dono they have stationary seats for those who can't ride the motion ones. still be cautious of the picture though if 3D movies make you dizzy

My favorite attraction in the entire park! Never ending smiles from me. Also, The Simpsons was ridiculously entertaining even with the head bops haha. Good to be back after a 24 year hiatus.

Congrats, you’ve gotten what you wanted (sorta). This ride is now in 2D at Universal Hollywood. They removed the glasses and turned off the 3D mode, so now it’s just a theater with moving seats :(

For everyone wondering why the screen of the ride is so unorthodox, this is a 3D ride. The people if the ride have glasses that allow then to see the 3D experience. Not the camera that recorded this.

The seating for this is 100% different than the one in Japan. I guess this was not the back to the future ride?
In Japan it replaced back to the future, so you are in a ride vehicle (formerly the deloreans, now just some generic minions car I guess?) actually looks kinda similar to the Spider-Man ride vehicle.
Fun ride, but usually the wait (here in Japan) is too long.
Also, I hate that it replaced back to the future . 100% not worth it IMO. But the minions stores, etc are super popular here in Japan, so I guess it was worth it for the parks profits...

I really love this ride like I remember riding it in like 2013 if I remember it was fun but they had to get rid of the 3D glasses now it looks like a moving movie theater
During Halloween Horror Nights, I will make a more “evil” version of the ride called “EVIL Minion Mayhem.”
During the second pre-show after Gru blasts the guests with his Fart Gun, the minions, girls, and Doctor Nefario tell him that Vector, El Macho, and Balthazar Bratt has escaped from prison and has broken into the lab where they installed a single drop of PX-41 serum in the ray.
After everyone is seated in their transformation pods, Gru zaps everyone with the ray, and everyone turns into minions, and he gasps in horror as he sees that one of the guests has turned into an Evil Minion.
An alarm goes off, and Vector, El Macho and Bratt all appear on the screen as they all laugh maniacally, and all of the minions (guests) get equipped with jelly guns.
Your mission is to shoot the jelly at the Evil Minions and villains to save the lab.
During the ride, you’ll get attacked by Evil Minions, PX serums, lasers, Vector's drones, El Macho's pet chicken, and Bratt's bubble gum and Rubix Cube bombs, until you enter the factory, where all the villains appear on a monitor, and they send you to the termination room, and everyone dodges spikes, lasers, and serums, until Evil Minions jump onto everyone, and a large bomb of jelly (thrown by Doctor Nefario) lands on everyone, and the Evil Minions turn back into regular Minions, while Gru captures the villains.
Everyone then celebrate their victory, and the vehicles speed down a coaster track, then land next to Gru, the minions and the villains (who are still trapped), then a rocket accidentally activates the ray, and everyone gets turned back into humans, then an Evil Minion jumps out of nowhere, and eats the audience, ending the ride as the security doors close.
Cool idea! I think it’d be nice if Universal did Halloween ride overlays.
