  • Over the coming months, we'll be showcasing some of the experimental characters, live on stream, with an eye to helping prospective Storytellers see them in action and learn how best to run them.
    This week it's the Magician, a Townsfolk who confuses the evil team!

    Storyteller for this game: Ben Burns (community manager for the Pandemonium Institute).

    Always a good sign when the video starts with "Don't do this. It's a terrible idea but I'm never going to get this opportunity again"

    Pausing at 15:09 to say Ravensbluff has a bad enough demon problem with one constantly running around. Now they’ve got 3! I want a word with the local government

    Sometimes the hardest part of these CZcams videos is the teaser of the previous game. Like did Habby win or Ben? Was Capelli an evil traveler?

    Please don't get rid of the "dicking around" portion of the videos. It's always good for a giggle or two at the start.

    52 minutes in, and I think it's time for a comeback because one team is getting SMOKED.

    Are these ever going to be available for those who pre-ordered after the kickstarter for those of us who didn't know their was a kickstarter at the time the kickstarter was running?

    • @BloodontheClocktower
      @BloodontheClocktower  Před 3 lety +10

      They sure are. The only things *truly* exclusive to the Kickstarter versions are a few cosmetic flourishes. We don't believe that anything related to gameplay should be exclusive - if something is good enough to play with, then it should be made available to everyone. The extra roles that are coming with the Kickstarter version will all be released eventually in their own expansion editions, it's just that those who backed the Kickstarter will have early access to them.

    I see conflicting replies from your team about what the kickstarter set contains, particularly when it concerns the roles available. So I just wanted to clarify that if I purchased the set from the link you provided in the description, will I get all roles available or do I have to wait for an expansion to obtain some roles that others are getting day one. Honestly I’m purchasing the game either way but I need to know regardless.

      Hey Rob, this is Evin here, thanks for your question. The current version for pre-order on CrowdOx is the standard version of BOTC with the three base edition scripts but without the Kickstarter stretch goals. I’m afraid that the late-pledge period for the Kickstarter version of the game closed on the 25th of June 2019, which was two months after the Kickstarter campaign ended. For the Kickstarter version, there were a few cosmetic enhancements but the stretch goals predominantly revolved around early access to about 30 roles that we're planning to release later on across a series of expansions. (There are no extra whole expansions included in the stretch goals, but a few roles from each planned expansion together make up the bundle of stretch goal roles.) There's nothing exclusive to the Kickstarter versions involving gameplay - we believe that if a feature is good enough to play with then it should be shared with everyone - it's just that the Kickstarter versions will have access to a few roles that will be available to everyone eventually.

    Is there still a way to get a copy with all the Kickstarter roles

    • @BloodontheClocktower
      @BloodontheClocktower  Před 3 lety +3

      I'm afraid that the late-backing period ended back in 2019, two months after the campaign itself ended. However all the 'Kickstarter' experimental/expansion roles will later be released to everyone as part of their own expansions. Given how popular they're proving, we're aiming to move to expansions sooner rather than later.

    I'm guessing this is a private discord? If not, is there a public invite?

      The Discord server for the streamed games is a private server run by us, used *only* for the streamed games. There is a broader fan-run BOTC Discord server that you can join here: discord.gg/kjHk4kT

    Wait?? So minions learn of more than one demon if there is a recluse?? I’ve never seen that in any of the games I’ve played…

    • @BloodontheClocktower
      @BloodontheClocktower  Před 2 lety +12

      It's one of those things that it's *possible* for a Storyteller to do within the rules, but that they (almost) never should. Because the Recluse can register as a minion or demon even doing the first-night phase, the Storyteller could choose to show the Recluse as one the demon's minions, or they could show the Recluse to the minions as a demon. You could even wake the Recluse along with the other minions and show them the demon - but then you'd be showing a Good player the identities of the entire Evil Team and the game would be pretty un-fun. These are things a Storyteller can do, but that they really shouldn't.
      Except in exceptional circumstances where you judge it will be fun for the players! In this case, with the minions already set to learn one false demon due to the Magician, he figured it would be fun to pile it on and show them two false demons. It was the first game on stream with the Magician, and he figured the players could handle it. :)

    i don't understand nicky's question at 13:33 at all. What would be wrong with that? If u don't like people lying or being manipulative, surely this isn't the game for you

    • @ab-mc2nq
      @ab-mc2nq Před měsícem

      in fact, if you do ban this kind of behaviour, then what is stopping the evil team just not worrying about leaking to the magician, and talking to all their minions and demons freely? After all, if the magician tries to use this against them, the evil team can just say they are gaslighting

      Just re-watched it and I stand by my response to it, which is that it's totally fine as long as you're not being intentionally mean about it. Although I reckon that's a good rule for most situations in life. - Ben

    What's notable is that Nicky is a good player but town is too wise to his hijinks a lot of the time.
    Also Richie's resting sus face doesn't help anything lol

    A normal UK Twitch stream for me. All fun and games until Adam speaks then I turn off and do something else. Especially ironic here as Ben tells Nicky not to be an a-hole earlier. Board Games are supposed to be a release from people talking to you like Adam speaks to people. The US streams are usually better - if only they could drop Mephit tag and bring back the players who dont like playing it (eg Tony)
