  • I was excited to own a OneWheel. I used one for a few weeks and felt how amazing it is to ride one. I got over my head and rode it faster than I should have. That's when this happened. I want to make this video as a warning to those who own one or planning to own one. Watch this before you buy a OneWheel

    Onewheel is easy to learn, hard to master. In an afternoon anyone with decent balance can learn to ride, but learning is not mastering. The board does a lot of work for you but it’s only when you learn the limits of what work it can do that you can really get a feel for what the board is doing. It’s insanely rewarding to get to know the board and develop and understanding of how it reacts to your input.
    TL:DR, 3 weeks may feel like a long time and you may think you know everything about the board but it is literally always changing as you ride. Spend time going slow to appreciate going fast, and don’t carry anything your aren’t willing to break, (including bones)

      1. Elbow pads, in majority of bails these are more important than a helmet
      2. Shoes, seriously proper footwear gives proper control and feel of the board

      4. Helmet.. I dont wear one always but I do recommend it
      Majority of your crashes will be bail to lead elbowcand shoulder, its common to resist the motion DONT you want to roll with it to backpack.. you will be stopped now and relatively un injured.. you must also CHOOSE TO bail at the right time.. the absolute worst kind of crash is a legs straight unexpected lurch and you get aired off board and land back on unbalanced... pick your bail time and know the point where you can run it out and when a torso roll is your only option.... crashing is an art... im very experienced in it. :)

    • @appearoffline
      @appearoffline Před 4 lety +6

      Almost every user of a Onewheel has admitted that a nose dive is inevitable on it. That is pretty bad. Your device needs a better design to minimise the risk of nose dives, but your company would rather be stubborn and see someone die on one than accept that.
      Even some small alterations would help. For example, you could make the edge of the boards you stand on curve upwards - a bit like a skateboard does - so it doesn't touch the ground as easily. You could also make the device beep loudly to indicate that you are approaching the recommended speed limit. Another thing you can do is put some small wheels underneath the front and back edges of the board so you are not instantly thrown off it the second it touches the ground when going at moderate speed.

    Tore my MCL in pretty much the same way on my pint. At slow speed, and slightly leaning back to get slower as I headed down a driveway, I encountered the street level which had a very slight incline and my board took a nosedive. With my feet 'stuck' to the board, I tumbled backward as the board went flying. As I play the incident back in my head, not sure there's anything I could have done differently. It happened so fast. I was vastly aware of the riding conditions and have been riding for over a year. The time to react had to be less than a second.

    I have ridden an XR for 180 miles. Last year when I first bought it, it worked flawlessly. It lasted a full 18 miles. When the battery got low it would push back and warn me before dying. On my last ride it did none of that. I think when it died it only had 5 miles on a full charge when it suddenly died going 10 to 15 mph. This catapulted me to the pavement shattering my left shoulder in about 30 places. I was wearing a half shell DOT approved motorcycle helmet, wrist guards and knee guards. None of that helped. This cost me 2 months of work and $3000 in hospital bills, so far. The lawsuits against Future Motion are piling up a quick Google search will show. People need to more carefully consider what they are committing their bodies to when they mount and ride these things. I'm sure the wrongful death lawsuit victims would make different decisions if they knew the very real probabilities . I certainly will.

I said "F it, there's people who ride full speed on outdoor trails." I went all in. It was pretty deep... I took care of myself first. Then I saw it laying in the street, lense down, as it's shape would naturally have it. It was at least 20 feet away. So I limped over. Picked it up. BOOM. THE LENS WAS SCRATCHED. I was so mad. • @mk1691
    @mk1691 Před 4 lety +1

    I completely tore ACL, obliterated one Meniscus, and partially tore the other meniscus... In other words... I wrecked my knee so very badly! This was while going super slow.. bcuz I was getting over a speed bump. I too had an Sony A7iii in my right hand, but on ronin -s gimbal. Since that fall caused me to have major surgery, and almost a year of physical therapy to be able to walk properly again... I thought a lot about how it happened. First of all balancing a camera while riding puts your upper body and lower body at odds with each other! This makes a 1 mile per hour fall potentially extremely dangerous. Add to that the gimbal which is in it self a very focus intensive activity to achieve what it is meant to do. You get a circus act that idiots imitating CZcamsrs should stay away from. Second problem is that even without any of the added weight or troubles that come with shooting on an electric board, the Onewheel is crazy dangerous if you compare it to almost anything else. Nose dives are a certainty. Which means eating asphalt is a certainty. So If you did not grow up with boards and extreme sports, and have many years under your belt... then do not be so confident. Know that this stuff is insidiously serious.

The only gear I wear these days is elbow and knee pads because I got nothing but scar tissue on my right elbow, arm and shoulder. Technically I could wear pads on the right side only and be good but it would look goofy as sh*t.

    Speed wobble just took out my shoulder. First time on the road too. Hit 14mph on my pint in 20 ft and it threw me like 10ft forward. I landed directly on my armpit and i heard a pop. I think i passed out but i picked myself up, couldnt use my right arm walked back for my pint and went back to my house. I sat on the stairs and put my now unusable arm between my legs and pulled it as hard as i could and i think i reset everything. 4 days later now im in bed and cant go to a hospital because like most americans, i dont have insurance. NEW RIDERS NEED TO BE CAREFUL, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY WEAR PADS ESPECIALLY IF YOU DONT HAVE INSURANCE! Great video dude.

    If you keep a good charge and enjoy how well the board performs and respect, key WORD, respect the limits of all the physics involved, it is such a safe, fun and excellent mode of transportation. It is so easy to ride, and how quick you learn it, even as someone who can’t even Ollie (like me) you WILL want to push its limits. Wear head to toe pads until you nosedive at high speed. You will gain a real respect for the board and be able to enjoy it without major injury for its lifetime. RT

    A Unicycle is better, let me explain: I’ve ridden them both (I also own an Evolve Bamboo gtx) & the onewheel is not as capable as a unicycle, for example you can jump a unicycle up & down curbs & even down stairs if you’re brave enough. Plus a unicycle can do 30mph (gotway msuperx) & climb 45 degree hills without nose bite like the onewheel does. Plus unicycles have a more natural riding stance & have USB ports for phone charging etc. The onewheel is good but no way as stable at high speed like a unicycle because the onewheel tyre is too wide & square.
