I have around 3000 movies 🎬🎥 and some of them i have from vhs to dvd and blu-ray but when they come on blu-ray 4K i will buy them ( Bruce Lee i have) . I am a collector and love martial arts and special Bruce Lee. Thank you for your video. Greetings from the Netherlands
I have Fist of Fury Platinum and normal ...and the rest normal; it was always pot luck going into HMV back in the day. ...The glory days when Manchester had two HMVs, a Virgin Megastore, Music Zone/Our Price all within about 50 metres of each other. "Progress" has killed it!

Those 30th anniversary tribute sepia sleeves remain easy on the eye for my money and I do like the GOD2 variant. The light blue covers for WOTD and GOD are also a nice sight.👍

I Have DVD Box Set Of Bruce Lee , that I bought from Brans And Noble , and the Big Boss movie in this box set , every time Bruce Lee looks at the Necklace , and remembers his promise not to fight , it plays a sort strange music , the kind you hear like from a music box , and as far i notice that is the only recording of this movie that i hear it in , it might be in the others , just at a lower volume .
I still have brand new and sealed copies of all those HKL/CA Bruce Lee titles bar the initial blue sleeve variant of TBB.
There was also an HKL PE of GOD with a Kill Bill inspired sleeve which was an HMV exclusive release. I own a copy of this rarity, too.
Hi Stripey. I remember when the 30th anniversary editions were released. I can confirm The Big Boss and First of Fury did get the 30th anniversary treatment. Their sleeves were the ones without the border strip down the side. Also, there is a single disk edition of Game of Death with a gorgeous yellow and black silhouette cover. I think this would have been one of their late releases.
I am to the point that I care about Bruce Lee, the talking heads of only the people directly involved with him that knew him, and of course the best transfers. Piss on having all these commentaries of after the fact "historians". The original movies or the classic interviews from Dan/Kareem etc...are all that matters.
The rest is just extra extra extra.
Instead of seeing another doc..why not spend that time watching The Big Boss for the hundredth time! That is never a wasted moment.
I would rather Criterion track down his early movies and release an anthology! His movies in 4K are perfection to me (ok all the Final Game of Death footage should have been in 4K...what a waste!). It really is the final word. Love you Arrow, I kiss my yellow limited box set routinely. Enter the Dragon I guess can be revisted...but man is it sweet too!!
4K Green Hornet next! It was filmed so Warner do it!!! Add in the Batman episode too. Who is with me? I'll throw that money like a mad man!!
2006 Came the HD remasters hence the platinum editions of Big Boss and Fist Of Fury with the new 2005 HD remasters from Fortune Star there were plans to reissue Way Of The Dragon and Game Of Death (1978) Platinum editions using these 2005 HD remasters but the distributors went bust were bought by Contender hence the spate of repackaged releases using the 2001 remaster these were reissued in 2011/12 under the Cineasia banner Cineasia presents Hong Kong Legends
Back in the day when these Hong Legends DVDs were released I believe they were by far the best home releases by far especially in the UK.

Nice, I was upset with what Bey Logan did with the eng dub of the Big Boss tbh ie the scene at the lake is 4rom a different eng dub 4 sum dumb reason it would’ve been nice to have the option of both so I had the waterfall entertainment version of big boss called fists of fury I know 23rd century released fist of fury tho it is a rip of of the HKL single disc version I was also deeply disappointed with the HKL release of wheels on meals they changed the fight music I preferred the jumpy music 4rom the original vhs version it would of been nice 2 have the option tbh
Hi stripes i hope all is well pal. I have done more or less the same as you with these . I collected all the hkl formats i believe if you have the hkl boxset and the platinums you should be complete obviously the the platinums have more extras and bey logan did another commentary for fist of fury i think one of the reasons was he said Steve Martin was in it . Because someone bullshited him for a laugh. Then did a new commentary and corrected his error. Like i said before i personally think this hkl is second to the arrow set as always great work stripes take care pal 👍. P.s . The cineasia ones are the same as the platinums just a repackaging. Like you say a bit naughty.
HKL never released a single disc version of Game of Death. The 2 Disc platinum edition was the first release and the additional disc was to showcase the ‘discovered’ Bruce Lee footage. After GOD they started releasing platinum editions. The first was Fist of Fury. I gave up after that lol

I know, fella. There are a few differences, like audio commentaries, etc. Also, I'm a bit of a completist on collections 👍
There is also A Yellow Limited Sleeve 2 Disc Platinum Edition of Game Of Death which says totally Uncut version on the cover, I think it may of been a HMV exclusive?

From my perspective the platinums with the slips only included the big boss and fist of fury. These slip editions were released nearer the end of hkl reign on dvd, hence their more slick appearance to the GOD slip. It is possible the idea was to create the rest of them .... however i think they shut up shop before that could materialise.
You make a great point, mate. The Big Boss & Fist of Fury Platinum, do look so much better than Game Platinum. Fist & Boss were released in 2006, HKL Defunct in 2007, so I think you're spot on. Cheers Pal 👍
Re-watched your video, mate, and other than the big boss darker case, you're all good.
You are possibly aware that GOD had a yellow variant cover for the x2 disc platinum special and a later yellow single edition disc on contender, post hkl demise.
It's a very disjointed collection, unfortunately for us completists.....and other than the 3 mentioned above, you're complete😊 which could be music to your wife's ears.

Did you guys know, if you pay attention in the Jackie Chan clock tower scene in Project A. In the two clips, there are different people watching.
They actually released 4 versions mate, HKL also released Enter the Dragon it has a blue cover as does WOD and FOF. They came with a magazine back in the day, still got the DVD’s but lost the mags years ago. Cheers for the video mate excellent as always 👍

I may get one put on canvas, I'm trying to eliminate glass (reflecting lights etc) I had real trouble with this in my old room.

Hi Stripey. I have had a look at the Mags. And Fist of Fury was the first. As part of the Hong Kong legends team when it first launched onto the market back in January 2000. And every month from then on. These were just the Movie on DVD, no extras. Hope this helps.And good luck on your search.

Have you ever seen "the legend of bruce lee" its a feature length adaptation of bruces life. but it was originally a 50 1 hour long episode tv show. I had all the episodes on a download but it had no subtitles. id love for the full tv show to get a boxset release.
I'd heard of it, but never seen it. I now have all 50 episodes 😉, there 45 mins each approx. Now I've got find the time to watch them 🤦♂. Cheers Pal 👍
@@StripeyR the bluray has all the fights in one feature length movie but yeah the the 50 episodes are the uncut versions. Have you got english sub? Mine were all in chinese language even when the americans spoke.

Hong Kong legends not just double dipping but triple dipping😂. I have most of what you have Stripey, except the GOD II 30th or any of the cineasia. This is where it gets weird. The GOD 2 disc platinum was released in 2001, the other platinum releases were 2006. So arguably the GOD platinum is part of the first single disc releases, but because of the footage it had was a 2 disc. The WOTD 30th counts as both i believe, but was obviously released in 2003. There is a region 1 platinum edition, but it is all a bit of a headache trying to sort it out. Hope this helps a bit Stripey, because i think ive confused myself😂😂. Thanks for the video...

It’d be good to do a vid about A Walk in the Spring Rain.It’s a film starring Anthony Quinn but it’s got fight scenes which are actually pretty brutal, choreographed by Bruce but a bugger to get on DVD

There's ETD footage in the game of death sequel? And of him looking at a bird? I'm NEVER a fan of the Lee exploitation stuff so thats cool, I never knew that, I gotta lookit up to see that.
I vaguely remember gravely disliking that sequel film but I have to say the final battle of Kim Tae Chung vs. Hwang Jang Lee had a few key moments of very neat choreography. Folks would definitely say it had some sort of Chop Saki "cheesiness" in that fight, but the guy playing "Bruce Lee" was one of the best Dragon imitators in history and had some pretty amazing acrobatics.
P.S. I hope one day you'll do a video on "BRUCE LEE, MY BROTHER". That was super cool.
It's directed by Manfred Wong and produced by his family, first account witnesses to the events described in the film albeit w/a few artistic liberties.
There's a tiny bt of Bruce. GOD 2 is batshit bonkers, but it is a good kung fu flick (in my humble opinion)
I will review Bruce Lee My Brother at some point. I've not seen it for a while, so I'll have to track it down & have a re watch, but I remember thinking it was one of the best 👍

My copy of Big Boss special collectors edition has a black cover like the other collectors editions (exact same artwork as your blue cover) but it doesn't say uncut and the running time is 96 mins.

I'm pretty sure Game of Death only came out as a platinum edition, there was no Collector's edition like the others.
I get the feeling HKL wasn't very consistent with the Bruce Lee DVD covers .

No worries, I remember collecting them back in the early 00s (way before the 30th anniversary box set was released), and Game of Death was released only in that Platinum package, so I get the feeling they thought, that sold well will release them again in a super deluxe edition.
You only have to look at 88 films with the Jackie Chan releases to see how inconsistent they are with the packaging, and also re-releasing them again in a super deluxe packaging.

I don't believe that "Way" was ever released as a Platinum Edition, mate. Not in the UK anyway. HKL Australia released it there, though. Go figure!
