Thank you for mentioning about Gig Young. It was tragic what happened. The more I watch Gig in Game Of Death, the more apparent he was in unstable health. You can see him being very sluggish in a lot of the later scenes, especially when he walks very slowly to his phone when his work colleague was holding up the reciever for him. The most noticeable moment is where Gig stumbles whilst trying to walk past Steiner's car before he is called over. It really looked like he lost the will to act and it is a shame what happened after filming.

Cheers, mate. Gig's story is so sad & of course his new bride. I was really unsure whether to mention this, but thought it important. I do notice the things you mention about Gig in those scenes, tragic.
      Thanks again, mate 👍

There is a version of Game of Death that had the introduction entrance of Bob Wall and Sammo Hung into the ring respectively on VHS. All the later versions cut that scene out and the beginning of the fight so all we have is the fight joined in progress.

Another fantastic video Stipey! I did not know there were 5 Billy Lo actors! Wouldn’t it have been a more respectful endeavor back then to produce an excellent documentary about the life and work of Bruce Lee, that included his vision for Game of Death and all the footage he wanted for the 3 climactic fights? I’m pretty sure it would have done well at the box office and served as a tribute to Mr. Lee instead of what they gave the public in 1978? It could have done what A Warrior’s Journey means to us today.

Nice one again buddy! I know this one extra trivia about G.o.D that Bruce originally wanted his suit to be black with yellow or gold stripes instead of yellow suit with black stripes but the kick footprint from Kareem's kick to the chest wouldn't show so he chose the yellow over black.

The opening credits are some of the best in any movie, ever. As a kid this was my favorite Bruce lee movie, I couldn't tell when it was Bruce and when it wasn't, but as an adult I certainly see it's flaws, but the power of nostalgia makes up for it.

Ho Chung Tao (Bruce Li) was offered the role, but he turned it down because he didn't want to be one of many doubles playing Billy Lo. He would have accepted if he were to be the only one who played Billy Lo and not several Billy's, one from this angle one for fights, one for acting etc.

I am glad you included the Gig Young information as I would not have otherwise known that detail.
As far as having Chuck Norris in the credits and not Ji Han Jae, I can only assume they made the credits first then determine who was going to be in the film. Or, the credits were made on a Friday afternoon.

Hey stripey hope you are well my friend, i was born when game of death was released in the cinema, i was introduced to Bruce Lee in enter the dragon in the early 80s, and my father put me in my first real martial arts dojo, training in taekondo, i got my dan, and move on to kenpo, which i loved and my teacher gave me one on one lessons with the nunchucku and kali sticks, surprisingly enough my father only introduced me to the legendary Bruce Lee in enter the dragon and fist of fury, my father passed away on December 3rd 1990, and never got to see me competing, funny enough my best friend, was watching one of my demos, and gave me 4 movies from the Lebanon, The Big Boss, Fist of fury, The Way Of The Dragon, and Enter the dragon all uncut no covers just a blank video, when i removed each movie a lobby card and poster fell out, still have them all , but no game of death, i did see game of death till the early 90s because i had bruce lee the legend and egor to view it, i was so disappointed at the way the film was made bruce only did a 3rd of the movie unfortunately, when i seen Robert clouse directed it, i was expecting it to be like enter the dragon, but sadly it wasn't, i knew about most of your top 10 things about game of death due to increased research on the movie, i still have my original vhs version of the movie, by rank video library, and of course dvds, blu ray hd, and arrow 4k version, but the arrow edit in my honest opinion is the best, great video as always stripey, on till the next video keep well my friend, support always from Ireland 💯✌️🇮🇪✌️🐉🙏🐲#1940to1973 #brucelee #foreveryoung#jeetKuneDo #ThegameOfDeath1978

Another great video Stripey, the only good thing for me from the 1978 production is John Barry’s amazing musical score which of course has been used with the original 1972 footage and just sits so well. Also, Collen Camp and Karem Abdul Jabbar appeared in the 1980 movie Aeroplane.

People are so lucky with the access they have to Bruce material these days, including the Arrow set and your admirable postings on CZcams. When I first saw ETD in 1974 you had to wait months for heavily edited films to be screened within a 50 mile radius, join The Bruce Lee Secret Society, and buy mags and books like KFM, The man only I knew, King of Kung Fu, Cinema of Vengeance, etc. I'll never watch GOD again, but The Final Game of Death is captivating and worth the price of the box set alone. Mind you, I still don't get that nunchaku lick 🙄

Oh one more thing Darren, i do believe that BrandonBruceLee, threw out items, and suits bruce lee wore in his movies, to the public gathering and queuing at the premiere of game of death, whether it's true or not, like i said i was just born Oct 78, would have loved to have seen all Bruce Lees movies in the cinema, thankfully i witnessed enter the dragon 50th anniversary in the cinema and watching the crowd react when bruce took apart bob wall aka oharra, was mind blowing, that's what got me started in martial arts for 15years still training today, Bruce's inspiration continues to guide us towards our personal liberation, keep well my friend ✌️🇮🇪✌️🐉🙏🐲🤜🤛👊👊

Interesting stuff Stripey, some of this I knew (Jan Spears for example) but I did not know that there were 5 different "Bruce's", I thought there were only 4. Kim Tai Chung imho did a pretty decent job in his fight scenes, albeit them being quite obviously Taekwondo based. Still a money grabbing cobbled together hack job though, BUT I do have a soft spot for this version. And of course you're spot on about the funeral scenes, such bad taste & also really disrespectful. Everybody can agreed that the soundtrack by the great John Barry was a home run-but Im sad to note that in one of his biography, it was stated that the maestro was not a Bruce Lee fan and didnt understand the cult following on The DRAGON.

Regarding Colleen Camp’s GAME titles, in 1985 she was in CLUE, a film based on a board “game”! Ha! Love your content, Stripey, here in the Midwest in the U.S. As a fan of both Bruce Lee and Elvis Presley, any perspectives as to why these two legends never crossed paths? In all the bios I’ve read, watched, etc. about Elvis, and his involvement with martial arts, including an attempt to produce a film circa 1975, the only thing I’ve read/heard about an Elvis-Bruce Lee meeting was due to conflicting schedules. The two had many mutual connections in Hollywood, plus American Kenpo founder Ed Parker. A shame these two never met one another.

When Billy Lo is disguised as the old man I’m wondering whether a sixth man might’ve played him. Even though it was denied in Frank Djeng’s audio commentary on last year’s _Bruce Lee At Golden Harvest_ box-set, I am reasonably sure that Fung Hak-On played Billy whilst in that particular disguise.

Nice one Sir! Been looking forward to this all day. I watched it again recently on SkyMix after not seeing it for years. Since it was shown in HD the continuity was less obvious and I strangely enjoyed more than expected. I did see the original GOD suit with Kareem's foot print on back in 1991 when Norman Borine brought it over. He also had the knock off trainers with black electrical tape on to make the stripes.Great video again.👍

Hi mate, one question about Bruce’s Game of Death was why did he choose to be covered up in the now famous yellow tracksuit during the fighting scenes. Every film he did before he always showed off his physical presence. Lots of theories exist about this but I wonder what you think?

    • @Re-Destro
      @Re-Destro Před 4 měsíci +1

No theories at all really, there is pictures of him behind the scenes when he's half covered in the suit, and you can see his upper body, looks absolutely chiseled, don't believe these rumors that he was off steroids or something therefore he was ashamed to show his body. He chose the suit for freedom of expression and to be versatile as a martial artist.

It always irks me that there was still sufficient footage for something better than the final release. And to use actual footage of Bruce's funeral was absolutely obscene and in the poorest possible taste. Its quite clear Bruce had the nucleus of an idea far, far superior to what Clouse gave us and in fact could have been even better than the hollywood gloss of ETD. I still remember watching this as a teen for the first time and literally clapped when Bruce exploded onto the scene at the end. All previous fights in the film totally pale by comparison. Excellent video as always, Stripey and cheers fella. Top man.

The only thing that was good of the Clouse Exploit is the opening/John Barry Score and what ever was left of the original filmed material. During the good ol VHS days I made an edit of what I said I like and that was it.
Overall, I wish Lee was still alive for the World and finished this masterpiece!!!
Catch 22- should he have stayed and finish the movie and may risk not making ETD
Or took the same path and died with not completing GOD?
If any thing, I wish Lee and Brandon was still alive and well and enjoying life as a legend and icon.

Hi stripey, another great ten things about...few new to me as well fella. If there are 3 things I hate the most about the 78 version, then its got to be the use of the Bruce Lee's funeral footage. Its extremely bad taste. And the other is Chris kent's bloody awful " war cries". He uses the same cry everytime Bruce's character so much as breaths. And it sounds terrible! Why was Chris Kent chosen to do the fighting cries is beyond me. Chris was a JKD student of Danny Inosanto and became a teacher himself. So maybe he was suggested by Danny Insosanto - I dunno. I gather Kent did the speaking voice for Billy Lo as well - and he sounds just wooden. Third is the use of " stock" footage from Bruce's films. It never matches the scenes in the 78 version at all. Love your spot of the towel business. I must watch out for that if I can bring myself to watch Robert Clouse's botch job of 1978 again.
