      I used to think it was filmed in 1970, thanks to Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story! I think even Bey Logan references the year 1970 in his HKL DVD audio commentary.

      @@safeashouses211 It was 71, mate, but Bey Logan did say July 23rd 1970 in the HKL audio commentary (that's probably why I repeated it) Ooooppps 😉

    A couple of years ago, I visited Pak Chong, Thailand, where Bruce Lee filmed "The Big Boss". I went to the hotel where he stayed during filming. I think the room number was #207. The lady who served him then was still there and she told me that Bruce Lee had back issue so he called the lobby to bring a matress to be put on the floor for him.
    I also visited the Boss place, which is still pretty much the same as it was then, since it's a temple. A lot of dogs are still there. The water, where Lee kicked the bad guys, are almost empty. The Boss area where the Boss hit the girl with the cigarette is no longer there. If you are there, it's actually exactly the same color with the blue sky, as though Bruce Lee was still there filming. The Boss house is actually only across the street from the hotel where Bruce Lee stayed.
    The ice factory is still there and it's very near the Boss house, to the left as you walk out.
    The stream where the girl washed the clothes is actually behind the hotel.
    I tried to locate the Bordello and the house where all the brothers stayed, but they were no longer there.
    It makes sense to me because all those locations are nearby the hotel, so they don't have to carry or lug all those big camera and equipments around far.

    I always loved the woman knocking the tea over, I was only a kid, and found it hilarious, not only how badly she knocks it over, but it all being instantly cleaned up lol 🤣
    I don't know if you've done the one from Enter The Dragon, when Bruce kicks the guy in the face about 5 times with super fast speed, and the extra in the background, gives the biggest smile in admiration of Bruce's speed lol 🤣

    Hey Stripey, i used to collect Laserdiscs many moons ago & still have a few, including Bruce Lee's movies & the rear of The Big Boss sleeve contains a shot of the deleted prostitute scene, which made me realize the movie had been subjected to a troubled history of censorship, with many scenes missing, all of which thankfully changed with the release of Arrow's set.

    Good vid, Stripey. Have you seen all of the promo pics of Bruce during the final fight at the Mansion doing a flying kick on the henchman with the blue t-shirt(Peter Chan)? The very peculiar thing about this is that he is not present in that fight during the film, only in the photos/stills. The weirdest thing of all though, is that his body(blue T-shirt guy) can be seen lying down on the floor face down in the grass during Bruce's fight with the Big Boss. You should do a video on this..

    Hi Stripey, Learned more stuff on the big boss, I only saw it twice in the Cinema back in the 70's, for some reason it never got shown as often as the others, so when I got the Video I would only watch the fight scenes most of the time! ETD saw it about 27 times back then in the Cinema! - in ETD, when Bruce jumps up on the wall chasing Han, his toe catches the white chair - In the Hall of Mirrors , the Spare goes the wrong way around as Lee opens the door into the hall of Mirrors after Han has pushed it through! - Also the rope Lee descends into the caves is a lot thicker than the one he raps around the concert base to lower himself down! Just things I have picked up over the years ...Loving the Videos and Info Stripey.. Shane.

    Great ten things Stripey! Very well spotted stuff. I get the feeling the knife scene would work a little better if the angle was reversed - very clumsy editing ontheir part. It doesn't matter why the movie was called Fist of Fury (not the Big Boss) once a movie is released, that's it's name. That's why we call the movie Enter the Dragon not Blood and Steel. Once marketing settles in on a title, that's it. This idea of rewriting history doesn't fly. Bruce's first movie, like it or not, is called Fists of Fury in the U.S. The second movie is called Chinese Connection.

    I really love the white shirts Bruce wears in the Big Boss. In the eighties it was easy enough to get an authentic version of Bruce Lee's button down undershirt. I believe it's called a Lee Kung man undershirt or Wing Chun undershirt. Nowadays the shirt is not easy to get ahold of and the ones I've found do not have quite the same sleeves. Very well done as always :)! I didnt know some of them. An other interesting thing is maybe the age of the protagonist played by Bruce. Bey Logan stated this in an interview with Charles Damiano. Cheng was supposed to be a very young fellow, maybe 20 years old or so, while Bruce was 30 during filming. It makes sense, it explains why Cheng was so dumb and naive.
    It makes also sense because Maria Yi is born 1953 and Tony Liu 1952. She was 18 during the filming and he was 19, and we saw Tony's character had a love interest in Maria's character. So it would be logical Bruce's character Cheng was also around that age.

    In a 1971 or 1972 interview Bruce was asked about the Big Boss script, BL said, you wouldn't believe how i had to help rewrite the dialogue.

    • @StripeyR
      @StripeyR  Před 4 měsíci

      From all accounts The script was scribbled on a few pages & the filming was very haphazard 👍

    • @davidtaylor2152
      @davidtaylor2152 Před 4 měsíci

      @@StripeyR Yes, very haphazard to begin with, and out of his 4 5 films his best dialogued written movie followed by the cantonese version of Enter the Dragon which BL helped co-write for the asian release and partly contributed towards the dialogue for the international version. In all honesty the english version of ETD is okay but cartoonish.

    two parts you didn't mention that surprised me were the scene where Chen Chao An punches the guy threw the wooden wall and his silouhuette is left on the wall. Bruce hated that but Lo Wei insisted on it. Also, during the same fight scene where they throw 2 knives at Chen but they barely miss his face as he turns towards them. It looked like they shot that backwards.

    • @StripeyR
      @StripeyR  Před 4 měsíci +1

      It did cross my mind to mention the "Road Runner" type punch through the wall, but I knew most would have known this. You're 100% correct, Bruce hated it.
      The knives was filmed in reverse, just like the dagger being kicked into the Boss at the end.
      Cheers Pal 👍

    There was always one problem I had with this film...Bruce had already broken his promise not to fight during the "4 lousy guys" scene when he hit the 2 guys in the stomach and did that 3 stooges Moe Howard hit while those two guys were behind him without looking at them. This was a small fight that shoo shain was in complete control of winning and didn't need Bruce's help, but he broke his promise pretty quickly and easily for that and jokes about it. So why take so long at the ice factory when his friends were getting slaughtered. If ever there was a time to jump in quick with the promise breaking it was then. I loved the movie, but that part always bothered me a bit.

    I learned Bruce & Lo Leigh COULDN'T STAND Each Other!! The way Bruce was treated in Hollywood as far as a relax atmosphere was concerned, Low - budget Movie 🎬 making in Thailand was Pure HELL to Mr. Lee . I'm sure Bruce didn't like some of fictional fight scenes he did RELUCTANTLY!! But ,as history was made Bruce tolerated another movie with Lo Leigh Fist of Fury ( Chinese Connection)
