Same except I put exclamation point and question mark symbols making the sfm file invalid so everytime I did "save as" it didn't actually save lol until I figured it out
Seriously, what the hell? Why are Valve so overqualified? These kind of shortcuts and considerations for maintaining things synced and the speed in which you can get stuff done, it's way better than any other movie editing program I've used like moviemaker, vegas, adobe premiere. And this is a freaking video editor for a videogame engine! Like god damn!
I am not sure if Valve could take that as a compliment, but as I saw the " it's way better than any other movie editing program I've used like moviemaker, vegas, adobe premiere", I think that will be a compliment.
I know I'm late but I think it's because Valve's employees made this first for themselves to make promotional material (like meet the shorts and expiration date).
is there a way to tie a sound to an actor in the scene? For example to have the scout's domination line sound like its coming from a different position depending on the movements of the camera in relation to the actor?
hey guys alot of people here in the comments are having a problem on how to move the sound clips. took me forever to find out how. just hold alt and shift and click the middle of the sound clip and you can move it
This the first video I watched with acceptable subtitles in CZcams. Why Valve is different? They think about deaf gamers too. I'm not a deaf person but I really appreciate it.
Just found this after a while, and after starting my own SFM series, I needed ways to lower the music volume so the dialogue could be heard better. and you helped me out
never realised that this program was so simple to use. I guess you've only touched on the basics so far, but still Also love the design of it. It reminds me of premier pro alot, which is good because I like that program
I put my edited audio files into "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\sourcefilmmaker\game\tf\sound\*filename*" but anywhere in the "\game" directory is fine - then hit rescan in the "Add Clip to Track" menu and then search for the filename. Make sure your file is in the ".wav" format or it won't be recognised. Hope this helped! :D
I'm just letting any Valve employees watching this know, since this is an open beta, the Play, fast-forward/rewind buttons and record buttons all disappeared when I put the video into sound editing format. This doesn't really bother me, since I use the hotkeys for those anyway, I'm just letting them know.
I have a sound question, and I can't find its answer on any tutorials/forums. Maybe you guys can help! :) Is there any way to make sound come from a certain direction (i.e., pan the sound)? For example, if Heavy is standing off to the right, and I want to make the sound of his voice come from that direction, can I somehow edit the sound in SFM? I'm guessing it has to do with the element viewer; I've messed around with that scary thing a couple of times, but I never changed anything except pitch.
Thank you for the very well done tutorials! Without them, I would not have been able to go past the No map loaded screen! I can't wait to make my own little films! :)
Hey! I had the same problem but i just figured it out! When youd double click on the shot, there are actually 3 takes! - what you need to edit is take 3, where the soldier came in and shot the rockets. That's where you can lower the volume of the explosions. :)
Have you been placing the file in the same folder as the other directories that SFM recognizes? I've been placing all my new files under /program files (x86)/steam/steamapps/common/SourceFilmmaker/game/tf_movies/sound/vo with the same bitrate and it's able to locate them.
There are multiple takes in your clip. Collapse Take 1 and you'll see the others. Mute the all (by removing the tick next to game sounds) play the clip and you'll get silence. Now activate them one at a time until you find the active one. Then follow the tutorial as normal.
I love how on HIS computer the movie is playing perfectly smoothly... :P Speaking of which, I haven't found any way to change graphics settings for the SFM... Is there one?
It's sort of like the "Arrow in the knee" scenario, where one hears it so often that one feels the need to make a joking comment about it, up until the moment that everybody gets sick of it.
Once you downloaded the sound you want, you put it into your Sourcefilmmaker > Game > TF_Movies > Sound > (Choose a folder, like Music). I hear it automatically converts it to a .wav file, but it doesn't for me. Make sure it's .wav otherwise it won't show up. Once you have the file in there, the next time you search for it in the list, hit "rescan" on the top right of the window.
i read their employee handbook and they get to all go on vacation together, along with their family, on some big trip to some awesome places each year! also, they work in teams and have this extremely advanced way of moving their desks... unplug, move, plug back in..
I had that problem too. I saved my song in usermod/sound but I couldnt find it. I believe you have to exit out of SFM and go back in and it should be there.
Somethings wrong, I am using the same thing that he does, as in, technique, and it seems that the sounds are not playing, even though they have the wave form showing and all, but I am not sure if the offset being to 0:00 is an issue?
Here's a problem I've had for a while. After about 20/30 seconds of the animation I'm making, the sound suddenly stops playing after I pause and play it. It can still be heard if I refrain from pausing the animation, but it makes it a little harder to work with. Is there anyway to fix this, or is this normal?
You have to import that sound. Copy the sound you want, and place it in common/SourceFilmMaker/game/tf_movies/sound/mixes/ati_demo Sound files have to be in WAV format in 16 bit and 44100 HZ.
Search for the phrase "gamestartup" in your Steam file folder. Should be a song for each class. You'll have to convert them to .wav format first, though. I recommend using Audacity because its free and quick. Then copy and paste the wav files into: sourcefilmmaker>game>tf_movies>sound>music. Let me know how it works out.
At 3:32. I'm doing as directed, typing one five but it keeps making it 1500. And I can't make it lower, please reply, and fast if possible! I also can't even mute the tracks.
Honestly there should be a written tutorial on how to use sfm. I'm really tired of going back to these videos so I can find out how to do one thing as opposed to going to a page and searching for key words within it.
Im confused on one thing. When i blade a new shot, then make it so when i switch shots, it will repeat a little bit, the sounds also repeat too. I was wondering if there was any way to smooth that out?
He forgot to remind me to save. Now all my hard work is gone.
Haha :D
it reminds you when you close
Jacob McBride Wasn't part of the tutorial so I ignored it.
That was in the last episode... Ctrl+S

Valve are just too good
So sad that 6 years later Source 2 FilmMaker came out before this one was even pushed out of Beta into a 1.0 ;-;

Extremely well made tutorial, figured it out bit by bit with help from this guy.

It's nice that all the dialogues from TF2 can be used in SFM.

Hi, Criken! :)
Question, what folder do u hav 2 save wav. files in?
thank you I had no clue how to use well I had a very small clue about it
i need some helpz, when i load a map and, edit things like playback my clip or move and stuff it lags allot, any help?
I know it has been 8 years and you probably already figured it out, but I think it might just be your computer isn't good enough to handle it.

How do you add sound from files already on your computer? What folder do you need to put them in?
That aside these tutorials are real good
Is there a way to use other weapons when you record Ingame or I stat taught in a dfferent tutorial

so its basically Sony Vegas Pro for tf2 but its free?

Pyroland was probably a different section of the map like the indoor part of Meet the Heavy.
But the fire must have taken eons...
Does there exist a way to make one or more specific sound(s) louder than the other ones?
did you find any solution to that?
what do u use to record ur tutorals
how do you get the tf2 soundtrack (the ones used in the meet the videos, etc)
It's in the music files at the very bottom

How do u set your sound editing layout to default?
I just throw mine in the VO folder. And remember, the filter tool is your friend.
You have to import that sound. Copy the sound you want, and place it in common/SourceFilmMaker/game/tf_movies/sound/mixes/ati_demo
Sound files have to be in WAV format in 16 bit and 44100 HZ.
ikr I can't count the times I've forgotten to save and lost hours of work -.-'
Probably the steam catalog, cookies and Early HL3 info
The models are taken from gmod/downloads and put into the SFM directory, then they can use it. I'm not sure if you can actually create a model in SFM.
