As someone who is an insomniac and has a friend, he's 3 hours ahead of me he's from another continent but close to my country so when I message him at 4 it's 7 for him so uhhh hehe
Short explanation, once a human body has expended most of its energy, we close our eyes and suspend our conscious awareness for a few hours. During that time we are mostly aware and inert.
That mention of the REM cycle sent me back to my High School AP psychology class. The amount of stuff that have been recalled from that class is surprising.
It’s fun to speculate about what extraterrestrial life is like. It’s safe to assume that they might even do something as simple as resting in a completely different way than us. To them the idea that we spend a good chunk of our lives unconscious must seem incredibly strange.
You can just imagine the lil girl over you whilst your asleep, ‘get up, get up’ or ‘stop ignoring me’ Trying to figure out what my shut eyelid mean, I imagine cheeks being squished and a lot more before waking up.
