ILOILO CITY, Dec. 22 (PNA) -- The organizer of the ‘Tambor, Trompa, Martsa, Musika,’ one of the side events in the upcoming 2012 Dinagyang Festival, also aspires to make Iloilo as a center for drum, bugle and lyre competitions.
As a special event of the week-long Dinagyang Festival, the newspaper fashion will be modeled by nine candidates in the search for Miss Iloilo Teen Dinagyang 2012. The candidates are from 11 to 15 years old and mostly students of the elementary and high schools in this southern city.
Pageant director Rowena Diaz said the newspaper fashion festival will complement the beauty and talent search with a coronation ceremony on January 16.

The competition is slated morning of January 20, 2012 with two categories to cater to elementary and secondary levels.
Music: Samba, reggae, salsa, world music (a combination of ethnic and modern music) or any of their variants performed by a marching band or by tape recorded music played back on a good quality audio system. The audio system must be installed in the float or in the service vehicle if the participating group has no float.
On the other hand, city tourism officer Benito Jimena said the festival goes green this 2012 as a staunch advocate of environmental protection and preservation. Various special events are focused towards the environment with the festival theme “Beyond Awards: A Culture of Excellence.”

The Sponsors Mardi Gras Parade is a lively and exciting street parade with rhythmic dances performed by costumed dancers, accompanied by musical bands and colorful floats. It is an organic event of the Dinagyang Festival.
It will be held on January 21, 2012 (Saturday) and will start at 2:00 P.M. from Freedom Grandstand and will end at the Provincial Capitol.
Iloilo City was first to be dubbed as the Queen City of the South. But as the economy of Cebu overtakes that of Iloilo in the 90's, the name Queen City of the South was transferred to Cebu City. NINE competing groups will vie for honors in the Kasadyahan competition slated January 21 this year.
AT LEAST six foreign ambassadors and officials of Daly City and Stockton City, California, USA are coming over to witness the Dinagyang Festival set on the third week of January 2012.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the visiting dignitaries composed of the ambassadors of Greece, Czech Republic, France and Italy will be coming to grace the Iloilo International Film Festival on January 19-21, 2012.

It would have been nice if Aliwan festival is not a contest, but only to showcase the different festivals of the country.

Dinagyang 2012 tickets sale 1st week January
The Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) set the selling of tickets for next year’s Dinagyang Festival starting first week of January 2012.
The tickets will be sold at the City Tourism Office at the Freedom Grandstand, J.M. Basa Street and City Hall’s Office of Executive Assistant Jess Sio at third floor Robinsons mall, City Proper.

Mabilog said he is still negotiating with Secretary Mar Roxas of the Department of Transportation and Communications to be the main speaker during the Kasadyahan Festival on January 21.
Ilonggo Senator Franklin M. Drilon, on the other hand, will be the main speaker during the Dinagyang ati-atihan competition on January 22.

Ilonggos have been assured of support from Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III who took time to be part of the 2012 Dinagyang Festival’s Pamukaw held Friday afternoon here.
Just like the “pamukaw” which is a preview of what to expect in next year’s Dinagyang Festival, his assurance of support, he said, is also a “preview of my commitment to help and assist the city of Iloilo, the people of Iloilo and the province of Iloilo.”
