Very well analyzed video on a topic we are so unsure about. The sadness with which a young student living all alone in a unknown land and culture has been covered so well....and the aspect of hopelessness as a reason to look for moving out has been bluntly covered ...a deep subject covered with with tremendous...must watch for parents and students of all ages..

With all due respect sir, there is a thing called as work life balance in European countries, which can never be acheived in India, hyper toxicity of indian work culture makes people look for something better in the West. Plus can't dent the fact that judgemental nature of Indian society repels Indian youth ( read all jobs are treated with respect in the West).

Very well explained. India is rich but old dated customs prevent people from transforming into the new developments. Middle class people are becoming scape goats for the false beliefs. Through the 1992 economic liberalisations india has entered into the new western world, opening up vast opertunities for labour. This labour rejected by middle class due to pride is being taken by poor class. Middle class should reform themselves if they want get new opertunities.

    Dear Amit ji,
I must state one particular point here and I am speaking from reasonable experience here as I have received my PhD from India before moving to Europe. The general stream of education is very rigid in its structure in India and lacks flexibility in terms of lateral mobility of subjects in higher degree, i.e. someone who has studied zoology or chemistry will not easily get to do a masters in psychology and move to that stream of profession. They would need to do a bachelors all over again or join a very expensive private university program to move to a different branch of education. Although this problem might be faced by a small population of kids, it is unfortunately the truth. 2ndly, the PhD supervisors in India are often worse/demanding than their western counterparts. They have their own "farmaeshi program" which is not great for the morale of most scholars. Then again in the recruitment market for faculties in universities and institutions, there is very little weightage given to applicants who have no foreign job experience. Plus there is a visible nepotism for students who have done their degrees or job experience from one of the few big labs in India. I would recommend anyone to do a PhD from abroad vs India, if the same is not done from a high reputation lab. I am happy to answer any questions from your audience, if required.

@@mmk2044 Actually the University is pretty good. Although I have not been to the university labs in-person, two of my trainees are pursuing their PhDs there for the last couple of years. However, I must mention University reputation alone does not guarantee good lab or good PI or that particular department's recognition in that particular scientific field. This part of the evaluation is up to your due diligence. At the University level, it's a 👍 from me.

Once again a great topic to discuss over here. I am partly agreeing to some of your points such as not to go aboard without a plan, investing a lot of money in the name of carreer on an uncertain plan, doing odd jobs for endless amount of time, leaving a so called luxurious life at home. However, sometimes we need to weigh our options. If someone is denied a good degree at home just because of the huge competition we have in India and has an option to study that in abroad then it is lot better to have the experience while they are young. Because at that time we have lots of energy to pour into our carreer. A good university abroad provides a very strong education in a practical sense. Also people in their youth have an increased appetite to take risks. Certain things will be unsuccessful, but it is good to experience mistakes early in carreer rather than experiencing them late. Those who can send their kids to study abroad can also manage to visit them once a year. India is such a big country, it is practically same situation for parents staying in South and child studying in North. A skilled person abroad can earn enough to keep a sustainable good life. Hence, please always consider a renowned university and a good course if you are considering to study abroad.

The point here is if you have a purpose to go then go. Unfortunately in india opportunities are not enough as population is high. Reservations also exist here. If you believe abroad was best option for those unreserved who could not secure good status here in india. Few good doctors and engineers already went way 30 to 40 years past.
Most other important point is to outweigh your plan couple of times. Look for references and reviews before opting.
If software would not have come to india we would have been after 100 countries in economy. But how did india get that is by working for abroad companies getting in dollars and paying in rupee. So ultimately some things like culture is still poor in india for livability.
Just imagine what would have happened if the trillion dollar industry would not had come to india.

Actually sir, even though I agree with all your points, but there are few more things which you need to consider. FIrst thing is, Europe and US/Canada has a lot high human development index, in short HDI. It means that the quality of life you would get in those countries would be better compared to other counterparts. Government gives free education up to secondary level in most countries, they provide free healthcare in the UK or Canada, and there are lot more other benefits. I would like to ask to you, could you please tell me, why India hasn't got anything called as social security benefit even after almost 70 years of independence? Most of the abroad countries have social security benefits.
Coming to the next point, EU or US/Canada has lot more human rights. For example, consider this case of a judicial trial in a US court case. They have "The Right to a Jury Trial". In criminal cases, the Sixth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees the accused right to a trial by jury. This means that individuals facing criminal charges have the right to have their case heard by a jury of their peers or of their own choice, and not chosen by the judge solely, who determines their guilt or innocence. There are lot more, but lets just stick to this one for now.
While I am not against india, and being an indian NRI living in abroad, I have huge respect for indian people and the culture. But at the same time, most of the western nations have considerably less corruption that in India. So even if someone going to abroad and does odd jobs, still he would be living in a corruption free place, and that has got its own benefits. no offence to any one or any country, jai hind!

    • @afdcg
      @afdcg Před 11 měsíci +3

      There are differences.
Sure places like Canada and Australia or UK don't have more corruption.
But one has to pay a lot of taxes. The low wage labours hardly have money to pay the rent, bills, food etc. Life is hard if you don't have a good pay in those developed countries.
It has its own perks, like free healthcare, free basic education but it won't be that great.
In the end if you have great pay in India then you will love a much better life here. If you are earning well abroad it's still good.
I think taking a lot of loan like 20 to 50 lakhs isn't worth it. Not worth going abroad if you have to pay that much. The total loan is more on general.
I think in this generation migration is a more foolish step. Everything is expensive.
I know guys who have gone abroad a few years back and are doing well. Some are doing pathetic and doing weird jobs.
Everyones life is different. If you don't get good opportunities here then it's okay trying abroad.
But I think paying so much and going abroad doesn't make sense.

    Doesn't seem very holistic.
Its true that most people go sentimentally. But this does not cover situations which make sense to go out.
Think about an investment banker. Think about a software engineer, or someone who makes international deals.
See the audience intended, it makes sense. But then there are reasons beyond this, which are not covered
Agreed that escapism won't help. But if someone is meticulous and has achievements clarity in his personal situation, this will confuse.
So parents, hear the child. Listen. Because that missed opportunity comes with a cost
