English is his second language. Saying “you know?” can be a translation pause filler. While he is saying it, he is busy thinking how to translate what wants to say next. I would know, English is my second language, but i am educated in the states. So my primary is now English, and I lack advanced words in Spanish, so I sound dumber in Spanish.

For late dinner or cena with live mariachi music try La Coyoacana (in Coyoacan), that is filled fast on weekends, but get there a little early and enjoy the nearby walk in the park in the night. It's full of life, energy, and families (and dogs) walking together. Nearby fondas are excellent, too.
