Richard installed the Wireless FocusPRO Comfort System Programmable Thermostat, manufactured by Honeywell [www.honeywellhome.com/us/en/].
Then, in the loft, Richard demonstrated the Total Control Comfort app, designed by Honeywell, which allows the thermostat to be controlled from any location using a compatible cell phone or tablet. Richard used the iOS version of the app for an iPad, which is available for download from iTunes [www.apple.com/itunes/].
Richard also showed a wireless receiver that can replace a wall-mounted thermostat, which is the WTR thermostat, manufactured by Zone First [www.zonefirst.com/].
Shopping List for Installing a Wireless Thermostat:
- Wireless thermostat
- Cable staples, used to secure the wiring
- Hollow-wall anchors and screws, for mounting the thermostat
Tools List for Installing a Wireless Thermostat:
- Cordless drill
- Hammer, for installing cable staples
- Wire stripper, used to strip insulation from wires
Steps for Installing a Wireless Thermostat:
1. Mount the electronic interface module (receiver) to the wall beside the boiler.
2. Run two wires from the receiver to the appropriate zone valve.
3. Run two more wires from the receiver to a transformer. Fasten the wires to the wall and ceiling with cable staples.
4. Follow the manufacturer's easy pushbutton instructions to link the receiver to the thermostat.
5. Mount the thermostat to an inside room wall, away from any windows or heat-producing electronics.
6. Use two hollow-wall anchors to screw the thermostat's mounting base to the wall.
7. Snap the thermostat onto the mounting base, then program it to the desired room temperature.
8. The heat can be controlled wirelessly at the wall-mounted thermostat or via the Internet on your computer, tablet, or cell phone.
9. Another type of wireless thermostat features a receiver that connects to wires of the existing thermostat, which greatly simplifies the wiring process.

Great video. Thanks guys for posting.
I didn't know such a thing existed. Awesome!
I have had 4-5 electricians and HVAC people in to try to install a new thermostat but none of them suggested this. I need to bypass the old line voltage for my current thermostat and this looks like the best way to do it. Not sure I'm confident enough to do the wiring, though.
make sure you have a high quality wireless one, these ones if the batteries die in the RX unit the TX unit will not remember and will not open the call to heat relay, this would cause your pipes to freeze and loss of home you went to work for a long time or out of town
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH❤️👌
Nice and interesting way to install and setup a wireless thermostat

i wanna talk with you
They are good in a flat with a couple of people living in it, I have a portable thermostat , during the day it move it to the main room I am in ,at night it moves to the bedroom. My neighbour has the same system but has the nest Thermostat he can put his heating up from the car
Great information
Hi thank you for this video, and I have question. how many wireless key pad you can connect to the wireless receiver ?
Thank you
Is there a modern unit equal for that? I have a two zone house. Upstairs zone was buried in the wall during a remodel. Upstairs is freezing in the winter time with no heat coming out of my radiator. I need something similar to this unit.
Like..
Good work sir !!
Great video!!! What’s the second option called or where can I get it?
Great hands-on presentation. This is exactly what I was looking for for over a year and you have demonstrated that in 2015! Wow! Where I can buy this set? Need to control HVAC with the wireless receiver. Thanks so much for posting this unique video.
you can buy the thermostat on amazon
Honeywell YTH6320R1001
Thank you.
@@Blox117 is that the thermostat featured at the end of the segment
@@Vermontsasquatch420 i dont remember, that was 4 years ago
Thank you Kyle Gass
Hi In the last part of the video Richard talks about replacing the thermostat with a receiver and using a remote sensor to measure the temperature in another location with out rewiring. What type of product is this please?
What is the model number of the last thermostat. It would fix my problem. Or is it discontinued.
I live in a condo the stat has 9 wires. I want a wifi unit, but no such luck.
I'm looking for the last one you showed, where the receiver wires right to the old thermostat wireing. I can't read it in the video, is that a Honeywell also? I'm having trouble finding this. Thanks
I have a Honeywell's in my home they are great.
I have a Ranai wall mounted gas room heater. The thermostat is INSIDE the unit, and to get to it, you must remove the entire unit from the wall, disconnecting the gas line, and the exhaust vent. Only then can you remove the back to get to the existing thermostat. Of course the corner where it is mounted gets operated by the INTERNAL thermostat,. Thus the room is always colder. Is there ANY way to make this work at all, without access to that internal thermostat. I see NONE.
I just got a large home aquarium the only place it fits is right below my thermostat it’s an 80° box Constant Heat 80°
Anyone see an electric heater in the master bedroom?
What is the brand of the second wireless thermostat you showed in your TOH Shop?
Where can one get the receiver that connects to the existing thermostat (#9 in the instruction/ starting from 5'59" in the video. TY
What is the range from the base unit to the wireless thermostat? Why not try to link them from the remote location; this would insure that it's within range. You could have left the old thermo wire on the valve and cut it to length and brought it to the base unit; save some wire and time.
What is the make of the second unit that was shown ?
Honeywell YTH6320R1001
Is the name of this kit in Amazon.
@TOH, who makes the 2nd version of the wireless thermostat you guys are discussing, the one @6:00, which doesn't need a wifi connection.
Or just get a nest thermostat with a wireless temperature sensor so you can set what time(s) that temperature sensor takes over. So much easier.
If you tape an envelope to the wall when you drill it will catch the dust and then no clean up.
What model is the Honeywell wireless thermostat?
Hey you are the best friend
Great
I am a little late to the party here, but is there a link to the wireless model (the very last one you showed, that you put the white box and wall and you can move your thermostat around)
The brand is called ZoneFirst.
Nice video. What company makes the last type of thermostat you mentioned where you hook up a receiver to the existing wiring? I've been looking but can't find one.
He says don't need any wire and then he runs wires to transformer. Hehe
Wow!
Which thermostat did he use. Model number?
Noticed that all &our guys are wearing the band.
Still popular hey...
In the wiring picture, he has the white wire from the zone valve spliced into the white wire from the 24 volt lead. It looks like there are two white wires coming out from the 24 volt lead, but that can’t be. What’s going on here?
Does anyone know the answer to why he pigtailed the white wire coming from the zone valve and the common wire to the honeywell home . i mean all the explaining he did and skips over what we need to know.
great! what was the name of the last thermostat he mentioned. that's what I need?
Venstar wireless
Venstar T1100RF and T1100REC Wireless Digital Thermostat Kit I think
4:50 to save your wall from getting smashed up like this. Push the screw into the plug and hit the screw with the hammer. Much easier to sink the plug into the drywall this way.
Or just use the tip of a red robbie screwdriver and slightly bang it in before placing the screw
It’s gonna be cover what does it matter
what is the name of the last thermostat you showed, the one with the receiver, is it 110, 120 watt???
No power to my AC and heat themastat in my apartment my landlord illegally had someone cut the power to it from outside. Could you please tell me what could of been done it's 6 degrees outside.
Sir at 5:55 of this video, showing the old and new replacement thermostat. I cannot tell the brand and model no of the new thermostat.... please help. tnx EdA
Venstar wireless thermostat
Was Richard really watching a video of him in a video while we were watching him in the video? Wow. Lol
I bought a Honeywell WiFi thermostat. There is no C wire. However, there is a black and red wire from the furnace's R terminal going to the R and RC of the old thermostat. Could I simply move the black wire from the furnace's R and put it to the C terminal and same on the thermostat? Then put a jumper on R and RC on the thermostat?
No you cant. The two wires you have are for the signal to kick the heat on. Have to run a new wire or they make separate t stat setups that will solve that problem
What is the model of the last thermostat shown. The one that connects to wires of the existing thermostat, which greatly simplifies the wiring process. Please advise. This would really work well in my house. Thanks!!!!

This one is great ... you take the wireless thermostat to anywhere in the house and the ac will keep that "area" where the thermostat is to your set temperature ..
in my house the thermostat is on the wall at the entry ... our living room is on the other side and there is a 4 deg difference between where the thermostat is and where the living room sofa is ..
They dont have that model anymore anything similar that you can recommend
What is the 2nd unit called with NO WIFI
my issue, with a setup like this,is what if u lose power for any given reason, are u supposed to just freeze to death ?
That ENTIRE SYSTEM would rather heavily depend upon electrical power. The transformer, the circulating pump, the zone valves, and possibly, even the boiler all need electricity to function. Very few "whole house" systems can function without power.
I would like to add a wireless thermostat to my house. The one I have is on the wall where my furnace is and the heating and cooling is never correct. I don't want to have to do any new wiring except the one you showed at the end of your video where I just replace the unit on the wall. Can you tell me what make and model I can guy. Thanks,
Look at Ecobee units. Available at the big box stores. Put the main unit where the thermostat is now, and then use the wireless sensors (one comes free, and you can add up to 32) in the rooms that you want to balance.
Guys: I think the one at the end is Venstar T1100RF and T1100REC Wireless Digital Thermostat Kit. It's the closest thing I can find when googling around. Unfortunately, everywhere I look for it online says it's unavailable... so :(
Though it DOES look like they sell the 'base station' separately, and it's compatible with different wireless thermostats! So that might be what people would have to do
Does anyone know the answer to why he pigtailed the white wire coming from the zone valve and the common wire to the honeywell home . i mean all the explaining he did and skips over what we need to know.
So I just purchased the nest thermostat, went to take my old thermostat off to install the new nest but looks like I have one of these wireless thermostats. When I snapped the current thermostat off the wall was so confused how it was running and no wires where connected.. I see wires in the wall but they are taped off, am I able to hook a nest thermostat up? Not sure where the other wireless part is at.. We moved into this house last year.
Michael Finelli sounds like your receiver could be near your furnace and all you need to do is move your thermostat where you want it. I’m interested in knowing what you found out. I’m looking to get a wireless thermostat and hoping to connect the current thermostat wiring to a receiver then move the thermostat where I like.
Me & Them Kids hi, actually after long research found that in my roof we’re my AC unit is there is a wireless transmitter up on the roof. The AC screen inside is connecting wireless to that unit up on the roof.
So I currently left it how it currently was. I really want to access it remotely from my phone to adjust the temp. I could buy a nest but it would have to install on my roof. I would have to disconnect the thermostat setting on it and have it setup to a wireless thermostat reading from in the house.
A company called orbi, something like that has wireless sensors you can put around your house. Maybe that’s something you can do. It helps with hotter rooms and lets the AC know.
So this is several years old and we are now in 2021. Are there any updated versions or alternatives that are reliable to the thermostat replacement module he shows at the end? The one he demonstrates has quite a few negative reviews on reliability.
Let me know if you find something! I’ve been searching for a couple days now
Sir:what is the name of the wireless relay box receiver to replace the thermostat, and what is the wireless remote thermostat?
I think it's the Venstar T1100RF and T1100REC Wireless Digital Thermostat Kit
Wait. There is a Honeywell thermostat that communicates with the internet and doesn’t need power from a C wire? Does anyone know the model number of the thermostat used in this video or have more information that could help me?
I have a Honeywell FocusPRO TH6320R thermostat. It is wireless, just like the one in this video (and looks identical to it). My thermostat communicates with a Honeywell THM5320R receiver (the exact same interface as in this video). My thermostat communicates well with this interface, but CANNOT communicate with the internet.
I would like to upgrade my thermostat to one which communicates with the Internet but was under the impression that all such thermostats need power other than that provided by the two AA batteries in the thermostat. That extra power being powered by a 24 volt Common Wire (C Wire), which my wireless thermostat does not have. In this video, they just popped their wireless thermostat into its bedroom cradle, and viola! they were controlling the unit from a tablet (5:40 in video).
To make matters a tad more complicated, I would like to have the thermostat communicate with the internet a wireless “hot spot”. I do not have internet in my rural area but can get a 4G cell signal.
Can anyone provide guidance?
Thanks.
What is the name of the last witless Thermostat that was featured in this episode ?
What are the model numbers for the 2 devices?
Yes, it's a simple question isn't it? Guess they want us to do some digging. All I got was a semi-auto link to subscribe. Priorities. SMH
I need to move my thermostat but house is finished no way I can re pull I can’t pull that much wire
Funny, I had that non-internet thermostat they showed at my last home. I abandon the wires in the wall and hung the receiver on the hvac unit and wired it up. Then you don’t have the ugly receiver hanging on the wall.
While this answers the question on how to install a wireless thermostat. It's better to use a taco zone control panel and put one thermostat for each one of those zone control valves. So you will have 3 zones that are independently controlled
The board then can command the boiler to turn on and off.
They are independently controlled. Each one of those zone valves have there own T stat....
Sir, you know your stuff ! Congrats.
It would have been really nice if you took an extra second to mention what the second thermostat was.
It sounds a lot better than the first one that has all the BS.
The only good parts of this video is the parts they did not show.
Compscript I agree. But now the second option is discontinued. I have been searching high and low. Found some used on eBay but I don’t wanna try it.
the honeywell vision pros are actually very good and easy to use
Hi
Does anyone know the name of the last type of unit he described (the one where you replace the hard-wired thermostat with a transmitter to the thermostat)?
I think it's "Venstar T1100RF and T1100REC Wireless Digital Thermostat Kit ". I was googling around trying to find it, and that looks like a similar thing to what they're using. Unfortunately, it's unavailable... so need to find an alternative that's in stock somewhere
i like it but a link to the thermostat used would be nice. if they used it then it is a good product generally
+George Gardinier They probably just used whatever product would sponsor the show or give it to them for free. I think the video is more on point of showing you how it's done, regardless of the brand/product.
+briancnc The other thing is the model might not be made anymore from when the video was filmed. Thermostat technology is changing more every year lately than the past 50 years with all of the Smart thermostats coming out you have Nest Ecco bee and others. For some reason nest doesn't have remote senors but Eccobee does.
it still is available fyi
George Gardinier its a Honeywell THM5320R which can be optioned with zone control and have multiple wireless(radio signal) thermostats, humidity sensor, outdoor temp and a wireless remote with optional wifi.
What is the second thermostat at the end called?
Jennifer, Did you ever find out the answer to this question? I would like to use this one too! Thanks,
Yeah .. any idea what the name of the second thermostat ? I cannot make it out from the video..
It looks like a Honeywell FocusPro TH6320R SKU YTH6320R1023
@@tsully3472 Venstar T1100RF and T1100REC Wireless Digital Thermostat Kit I believe

Thank you guys for the names of the units. I really appreciate it!!!! Going crazy trying to figure it out.
Did he just eyeball the holes locations on the wall to attach the thermostat?????
lol! They obviously marked the spots before filming or just edited that part out.
R u dumb? They would of marked then before recording
What is the name of the second thermostat ??????
I want to know the name of the second thermostat also....the last one where you install the box to the wires where the old thermostat was and then you get the thermostat you can move around the house without using internet.
Please tell us what this thermostat is called because I need one.
@@DonWonCho74 looks like a venstar T1100. That puts a base on the old wired wallplate and a hand held display to move around. Wireless (back to the boiler) version is T1100RF and T1100REC
@@submariner650 I live in a condo so I don't have access to the boiler room...can I just buy one of these wireless thermostats and connect all the wires instead of going to the boiler room??
Confusing. Since you still have only one thermostat wouldn't it be better to place it in a representative room no in the front room with the fire. Say in the hall area. How can one thermostat really have work for a whole house? You would always get blind spots no?
In the case of the homeowner, he had more than one thermostat because the house had a multiple zone radiator system. The thermostat they relocated was only for the master suite.
+Rymac91 thank you. That makes sense.

4:35-5:00. Guess guy wasn't authorized to use that hammer. Needed Rich to come handle that.

It's a Honeywell redlink.
@@SuperSteddyEddy thank you !!!!!!!!
how did he drill those holes so fast and exactly correct in about 3 seconds without a guide lol

It's called video prerecording.
Yeah the marks were not easily seen
Now every time the door bell rings (since he connected the power wires to the doorbell transformer) his thermostat goes crazy. Haha
+MRrwmac how do you know that the transformer is for the doorbell? ;)
You idiot why would he do that?
@@liskaerik What else could it be powering ?
77 degrees? I'm sweating just thinking about that
Likely used that to test it was working?
You going to want to put a fuse in there between doorbell transformer and that 400 dollar wireless control module. It’s called protecting your investment.
What amp ?
So am I weird for trying to date that transformer? 🤣 Basler electric 24v it says. Looking at google images. Looks old. I like old stuff. Oh well.
😎
This guy and his family must be cold blooded. 77 is way too much. To save heat, just dress warmly.
Throw it down onto the floor and get a mechanical thermostat
Honeywell Round is probably at production # 100 million by now !
He’s got a three zone system, I’m assuming the other two zones have their own thermostats, no? Looks like all three zones are now running off one thermostat in the master bedroom. To my mind, you’ve turned a three zone system into a single zone system, maybe I’m missing something. Hard to believe that skinny little transformer(12va I’m thinking) puts out enough power to run the system.
eim
That wouldn't be a problem for me. . . The colder I am at night, the better. . I keep my AC on 66 every single night
Why would you need a stud to mount that box to the wall... im sure is does not weight 110 lbs ... at best its 2lbs ... you dont need a stud or anchors ... just take the screw straight into the drywall ...
they should just get central air and heat I'm getting it
That's costly

I'm failing to understand the need for wireless thermostats. Are people THAT lazy that they can't get up to change the temps in the house? Not everything should be wireless or "smart" (connected to the internet). In fact, the less that is, the better.
I understand your point, however this is exactly what I was hunting for. It has nothing to do with lazy. Do you not know the point of a thermostat? It's not just a control for turning on your ac and heat like and on and off switch. The key word here is thermostat.. the unit sense temp and turns on..if you have a 3 story town home or something similar like me, my rooms are on the 3rd floor and the thermostat is on the second floor. Heat rises junior.. that means in the summer heat rises and the thermostat in the second floor room makes the second floor cool and shuts off. Meanwhile the 3rd floor is still warm from heat rising and needs to get cool but it can't as the thermostat is satisfied from the 2nd floor cool room. So in turn i can't get my 3rd floor cooler than 76 degrees and that sucks as I can't sleep when it's warm. Moving the thermostat is not feasible and very costly. Having a wireless thermostat on 3rd floor and transmitter on the second floor where the power unit is allows the unit to stay on until the 3rd floor cools off. So now you have been schooled so you can stop looking like a total jerk off.
You are not the only important human on this planet.. keep that in mind when you consider things like this and insult someone for having options
@@jorose95 Actually, it does (have to do with being lazy). Can you not go up to your 2nd and 3rd story floors and manage your thermostats? Why have a 3 story townhouse if you struggle to go up the stairs? Or have someone else manage the thermostats? Why do you need to move your thermostats? Usually, they are mounted on the wall. My, are we sensitive! I'm merely trying to keep people from becoming sloths. So, you wanna become one? Okay. That's your business.
@@jorose95 I never said I was the only important human on this planet. You implied it. Pardon me if the truth is considered an insult.
