Watch as we review the 2018 Cupra Ateca (from £35,330) - or as some will still be calling it, the SEAT Ateca Cupra. Such confusion is understandable, as Cupra’s debut model shares more than a passing resemblance to its SEAT cousin both inside and out.
Here, Parkers reviewer James Dennison looks at the CUPRA Ateca’s performance, handling, interior and practicality. For more detail, head over to the full review at:

People looking at suv cars usually don’t want an estate and why do reviewers always go on about the transmission tunnel? Are there cars in this segment that don’t have one?

Great review James. I was originally a bit cynical about the Cupra branding but it does look good with the plastic cladding and should please performance drivers. The standard Ateca would be enough for me though.

Thanks Andrew! Indeed, think everyone was a little cynical at first. Doesn’t mean the car’s not good, of course.

Great review. I personally find it quite interesting as it has a Q car appeal...plus would of been so easy to put a diesel in it and they didn’t. Unfortunately it will depreciate like a stone. Will be a great bargain though after the 1st owner takes the hit

lewis Ratford Cheers Lewis - glad you enjoyed the review. Yes it’s definitely got a Q car edge to it, especially as it looks exactly like a regular Ateca! Does attract a bit of attention at the lights when people can make out the badges, though.

Would have welcomed more comment on ride when in Sport/Cupra mode - this could be a key factor in a buying decision. Broadly speaking, an SUV is likely to be purchased by an older age profile than a hot hatch and so might be more critical and demanding of ride quality. If it starts off 'firm' in Comfort mode then does this translate into harsh or jarring in Sport or, especially, Cupra? I'm inclined to think that the definition of 'firm' here is simply comfortably firm as opposed to soft, with Sport being acceptably firm even on longer trips, but maybe with Cupra becoming genuinely firm. But I've not driven the car so this is guesswork.

      Hi John,
Indeed, it starts off firm but acceptable (as long as you don't hit the speed bumps too hard) in comfort mode, cycling through to firmer with a greater edge to the ride in Cupra mode. The latter really is only for when you're in the mood on a good, smooth road. Otherwise it's uncomfortable and jiggly. Depending on the road surface, or how you personally cope with a stiff ride, you may want to go into the individual settings and switch everything to Cupra apart from the Dynamic Chassis Control.

In the UK the Cupra starts at £6,000 less than the Kodiaq vRS!

Similar standard spec. Both have plenty of optional extras. That said, the a fully specced Cupra with all the extras is still cheaper than the vRS.

I liked some of your videos. But today I felt like you did not say what you think about the car. For instance you have not mentioned its 18 liter fuel consumption. If you talk more directly critic about with the things you don't like, I will come back and subscribe again. Meanwhile I will keep out and just watch your videos from time to time.
