    Great review. I never really played the original version of atelier totori for the ps3, so i've decided to buy the dx version of atelier totori for the nintendo switch. It really looks great too. I also really love the opening movie for the game too. The animation looks really beautiful. ^_^

    As long as you got your enjoyment out of it, that is what truly matters. I only own totori for the ps3 so i highly doubt I'll give the DX version a try until I play the original game. From what i hear, the original atellier trilogy on the ps3 did a good job of improving on the atellier formula after each subsequent game, so hopefully when you play the final entry of the original trilogy it ends up being a positive experience for you as well.

      I played totori+ & ps3 totori
      Nothing changed outside of new dungeon
      Rorona to rorona+ is LARGE upgrade because its essesiantly changing rorona alchemy roster to meruru alchemy roster
      Meruru+ only changes meruru equation, essesiantly adding new math in item craft, older traits is nerfed & new traits on + version essesiantly made them as strong as older version

    "Having so much choice gave me a great sense of freedom"
    Ooof I disagree, hard. I hated this game. It kept opening up tiny gathering spots with nothing to see at the edges of the map fucking with both my perfectionism and my expectations for wasting a month to see the new area. In Rorona the areas were large and had beautiful scenery with hidden paths, in Totori it was just one small bit of area each. Exploring was not fun and neither was synthetising because I never had enough mats.

    Totori is the hardest one in trilogy (Rorona,Totori,Meruru,Lulua)

    Jup, Im gonna play Totori. Rorona's NG+ can wait. I'm not sure if I'll like the harsher time limit, but the rest really appeals to me more at first glance.

  • @icarue993
    @icarue993 Před 5 lety +3

    I liked A.Rorona better than A.Totori (character wise it might end up being the other way around). The reasons are purely mechanical. The last Atelier I played that took time to scavenge was A.Ayesha, and you could scavenge 3 times rather than 2. This might have been a bug, but since there was no way of synthesising the missing items on the fly (normally pressing triangle, like in ANY other Atelier) made it really hard to use my time efficiently, since I ended up either buying or searching for the items. And finally, since I was so weak since you had to be in Arsland to make weapons and making accesories was really high level, I could't explore as easily, making me rely on alchemy requests to fullfill my explorer's quota.
    Hopefully A.Meruru fixes some of this issues.

    Hey JPRG jungle. I wanted to know if you could recommend some games like Yokai watch 4(subtitled ofc). I havent seen you play those kind of games on the channel but this game so good that I just want something similar before the English release.

    • @JRPGJungle
      @JRPGJungle  Před 5 lety

      Hey! It's hard to recommend something close to Yokai Watch as I just haven't played the series (even though I want to!) :3 the monster collecting games I like tend to be the Digimon ones (Cyber Sleuth is a lot of fun!) and Pokemon Let's Go probably has charm similar to Yokai Watch, but yeah. I hope that helps (sorry I don't know more! :33)

  • @buckroger6456

    I always felt that the time limit was thrown in, to make the game have replay value. Forcing you to do a new game plus to get the other endings.
    I hope you end up trying cold steel when it comes out this month.

  • @MiyashiruX

    Atelier Rorona was my introduction to Atelier Hell (May madoka have mercy on my soul) and the quadrilogy still stands as my favorite among the Atelier games. But, I still don't understand how the time limit, even on Rorona, was supposed to be limiting and hard~ The games were freakishly easy that I had more time to enjoy the story and alchemy mechanics than worry about some deadline I can finish in a week or two~
    This was my only gripe with all the reviews I read/watch about the Arland series~ Other than that, great review~

      it really is funny how the vocal bunch of Atelier fans say they hate time limits, but the roland series with time limit are the highest rated of the series lol

    While I love the story and most parts of the game the time limit has made it so I only ever got the bad ending. I tried 2 or 3 times and gave up. The later games with very lax or no time limit are so much better for me. Now that they are on Switch (I originally played on the Vita) I might try again. I’ve played more of the other games too so it might me better this time around.

    • @manikaditha6308
      @manikaditha6308 Před 2 lety +1

      I've played every atelier games, clearing or at least touch their end game field and even tackle one of the optional bosses in rorona+ (they're not hard, its just the time limit lol)
      I expect totori is harder than rorona+, but no, it is harder than that, thd game time limit is just ridiculous strict, its just makes you grind and grind more in the same place while planning ahead of time.
      I think they realise by removing completely the time limit mechanic because they try to get new players, and these players usually dont like to force to do specific game style.

  • @EriesAston
    @EriesAston Před 3 lety +2

    The time limit in Atelier Totori makes it very hard for me to enjoy the game. I´m severely lacking in items to synthesize with, because gathering and traveling takes so much time.
    I´m giving up on the true ending, it´s not worth the hassle in my opinion, but I at least want to finish the game with the normal ending.

    • @JRPGJungle
      @JRPGJungle  Před 3 lety

      Fair enough, I was actually thinking while playing Firis recently it'd be really nice if these older Ateliers has an on and off toggle for the time limit lol I think new players (and those coming back to tie up loose ends) would really appreciate it. In saying that, I plan to go back to all of them regardless at some point lol just would be nice :3

  • @acebreaker7
    @acebreaker7 Před 5 lety +2

    I've never had a problem with the time limit in rorona, but from what i've heard in totori they heavily imply to explore the world since your an adventurer but limit how long you can explore seems like a step back imo and defeats the purpose

  • @gentlechaos8564
    @gentlechaos8564 Před 5 lety +3

    It sounds intriguing to me because of the time limit. I remember how frustrated I was with Escha and Logy. I worked so hard to get as many perfect months as possible, only for the game to throw an insane amount of extra time on the end. Maybe it was to finish the irritatingly long final challenge. I skipped the last challenge and slept away the months for my ending. I just felt sort of... cheated. An actual challenge sounds really nice.

    • @JRPGJungle
      @JRPGJungle  Před 5 lety +2

      Oh that sounds interesting, I don’t know if it’ll be good or bad when I try Escha and Logy then, but I find it interesting how each one seems to handle the story and endings a little differently. Despite the ending coming a little abruptly in Totori, I didn’t feel cheated at least haha it’s probably the one I want the true ending from most :3

  • @DiaborMagics
    @DiaborMagics Před 3 lety +1

    Sadly, while I liked the cast, premise and core game (adventuring license system) more than rorona, I couldn't get myself to finish it. The first dozen hours were very enjoyable (minus missing quality of life features that rorona did have). After that... Well, not really. The combat bores me to death. It's the same attack animation every time and only very few special attacks exist and you run out of mp super quickly. This was less of a problem in rorona for me both because rorona had more link/assist attacks with other characters and even combos while I didn't get any more than the standard assist for characters in totori. And also because in rorona it was the first game. I had hoped to enjoy totoris combat more, not less.
    Another problem I had was the time. In rorona I already had a slight issue with it, but here it was worse.
    Because more things take time and it's hard to predict how much time a trip to and fro will take because of gathering and battle taking time away, I ran late on quests more and felt restricted in exploring. I didn't go to places when I wanted to because I feared it would take too much time. This made me feel like the freedom the game gives you was a ruse and my freedom was actually impaired. This caused me to rush... And I'd finished ranking up to diamond with over a year to go. This is when I truly lost all motivation. I tried a couple of times but even allowing myself to go to the skipped areas now didn't help.
    I ended up watching cutscenes on youtube and I kinda disliked the later parts of the story and the ending so I'm kind of happy I didn't continue only to be met with disappointment.
    Also I'd read that in totori plus you could recruit her sister Ceci early on and dx on steam would have all dlc... But I couldn't recruit her at all and she was my favorite of the cast. Would've loved to use both sisters during my playthrough.
    All that said... I WANT to like the game a lot, especially because there are some characters I really like, more than in rorona (tho admittedly both games so far had very mixed bag casts for me) and the start of it was so promising. But... Sadly it didn't stay that way for me. Now I wonder if I should even start with meruru. I still have her and lulua, Sophie and lydie and suelle. I really want to play all of these. But I fear atelier might not really be for me, after all. I don't know what to do now :S

    • @JRPGJungle
      @JRPGJungle  Před 3 lety

      Lulua, Sophie and Lydie and Suelle are much freer with time, if you don't mind watching the story of Arland and going right into Lulua, I don't think that's a bad thing :3 I haven't played Sophie, but Lydie and Suelle are in the same trilogy and there is no time limit, so that one is very relaxing to play :3 I'd recommend trying one of those if you want to give the series another chance :3
      (and as for Totori's sister, I think I got her later in the game, although looking it up it doesn't seem like game point should matter. I'm pretty sure it's possible though, wish I could remember how >

    • @JRPGJungle
      @JRPGJungle  Před 3 lety

      Also you don’t 100% need to play the original trilogy before Lulua anyway, it just makes certain characters moments and the nostalgia factor more exciting :33

  • @606hunter1

    I recently started atelier Sophie but I'm very concerned with the time limit and lack of direction. I think I'm going to really enjoy it but these games feel overwhelming.

    I never understood this game. I beat Rorona, no problem, but with Totori I always got on my way to the island on time but was never able to beat the sea serpent, no matter how many runs I made.

    • @JRPGJungle
      @JRPGJungle  Před 3 lety +1

      That boss was pretty intense, I'm pretty sure I had to look up how to make better items for it and then got it. Lost a lot of time to the synthesising though, so that's one of the reasons I missed the true end :3

  • @shayoko6
    @shayoko6 Před 4 lety +5

    i love how the games of this series look. but time limits are a MAJOR turn off.
    and alchemy/crafting for me is less of a main appeal and more of a side mechanic.
