JVC RC-550JW Boombox Fix and Bluetooth Mod

- This is a JVC RC-550 AKA El Diablo. Its silver painted metal, as well as plastic parts, were damaged by its age.
There are 2 types of idea regarding restoring the vintage items especially its outside looks. One, replacing the broken/damaged parts. Tow, fix, clean, and polish it to keep the all original parts. Of these two options, I prefer the latter to the former. In this video, I polished them as much as I could and the result was outstanding.

Holy cow I bet that thing sounds pretty good. I saw the big woofer and tweeter and thought that smallest grill was a microphone.... Three way speaker system? NICE! Real dynamic ones, none of that crappy piezo disk garbage. A real keeper.

I have one of these in home in pristine conditions....my dad (rip) my dad bought it early in the 80's...is a gem for me now...i wouldn't sell it not even for a million dollars...

First off, I love your videos and appreciate you sharing for the boombox community to learn from.
How did you clean the plastic chrome switch? Goo Gone, followed by a razor, followed by Soft99?? Wouldn't the razor strip off the chrome finish?
Also the top plate on my 550 is pretty worn out. Not too many dents, but just scratching. Would love to try this trick. Please advise!
Thank you for your compliment on my work! The plastic knob, I used razor to remove patina but not the silver chrome plated. I carefully worked it not to harm the plated chrome. I used chrome polisher as well as aluminum polisher which is motthers.

When you polish the metal, always test it with small portion of the metal parts to see how it work. Try and error will give you the answer.

How much do an average restoration/repair cost, I know that it depends on many conditions, but as an average generally(ballpark figure)? I'm asking because that's a beautiful job you're doing.
in my case, from $200 to over $1k, depending on the condition and difficulties of the work. Some of them finished within 10 to 20 hours, and some of them took me more than 100 hours.

Hello Teddy! I have a Sharp gf 9090 boombox. The rewind and the ff is very very slow and the playing is doesn’t work. Please help

The idler tire has been replaced yesterday, because the old one is weak
And the belt is in good condition
Have you completely cleaned the cassette deck mechanism? or just replaced the drive belts?
I only replace the idler tire and I only clean the idler wheel. I didn't replace the drive belts (because it's work after the repair but now the deck is not working I don't know why? )
You need to do the complete cleaning and adjusting the cassette deck mechanism in order to make it work again. I believe some of the parts such as slippage felt for the FF/REW and rubber parts, etc... are worn out and need to be replaced. Also you want to remove dried out grease and add new one. It will take a time, you need to observe how the mechanism work and replace or restore one parts by one, test it each time until you see the mechanism start working. Probably it will not get back to the complete good condition, but at least you can make it PLAY mode work, probably FF and REW, you need to give them up if you do not have replacement parts, or modified them by making your own replacement parts. Anyway, observation and patience is the key for the restoration. Take a time, enjoy your restoration.
Hi! what kind of bluetooth kit did you use
you can find it on amazon or ebay, search with usb bluetooth 4.0 with 3.5mm jack. The one does not have switch on it. Probably less than $10.00
and the tape what did you record on it to adjust the head?
A speed calibration with A-440 Hz tone, you can find sellers online.
