The 'Horsebox Special' - (1927 Chepstow to Newmarket).

- This train is travelling to Newmarket after a race meeting at Piercefield Park in Chepstow. This horseracing venue had only opened in the previous year. It has since become the venue for the Welsh Grand National.
The advent of the railway network in many respects transformed horse racing - much bigger crowds could assemble from further afield, and as a consequence racing moved from open ground to enclosed venues with controlled admission. This growth in crowd size also made betting a more lucrative business.
Atbara class (or Class 4100) No. 4138 ‘White’ is at the head of this train as it was one of the GWR locos that was fitted with dual braking systems. It was built in 1900, one of 40 locomotives in the class, and named after a senior army commander, Sir George White, VC.

Hi Pendon Museum - First of all thankyou for subscribing to my channel. I must be doing something right for you to subscribe or you can see my vision of what it is going to look like in such a large space for a home layout.
I watch an awful lot of CZcams model railways and get a lot of ideas and inspiration, yours especially being one of them which I have been subscribed to for sometime.
At present not a lot is being done to my layout due to health issues (Complex PTSD) along with financial issues as a result of being ill, but both improving and work although slow is being done for the time when the mortgage is paid off which is not that far away.
I have tried on a number of occasions tried to visit your museum when up your way but sadly Covid has stopped me, but I will get to you one day hopefully soon.
Your layout is one of my favourites which is no surprise.
