- In this video, I played every F1 game since 2009 and crashed in each on to see how the crash physics has changed over time. In each game, I went into a Grand Prix and tested this by crashing into a wall and one unlucky driver.

I remember that back in 2010/2011 the cosmetic damage was crazy. To the point you were able to break most of the shark fin/engine cover/car's nose/sidepods. In F1 2006/CE you also had the chance to break the nose without breaking the whole front wing. Damn sponsors, they ruin all the fun!

I've recently played F1 CE and that is slightly wrong. You could damage the nose without damaging the wing mostly if you lightly crashed in the back of someone but the wing always came out entirely although it actually broke into multiple pieces while doing so which was cool. Also if you had some mild damage to your front/rear wing, they would wobble around a bit which was a great detail of the game(the PS2 version of the game also had that)

codemasters was amazing when it came to cosmetic damage in the ~2010 era
the jump from F1 2009 to F1 2010 is absolutely crazy. Those 2 games look like they came out a decade apart

i personally think that the 2015-2019 damage models are better than the 2021-2022 ones. for some reason the tyres in the newer games feel extremely buggy when they come off, and they constantly cause the tyre to go underneath the car and flip the car over in like every wreck

I wish they would focus more on the crash physics. Imagine if you could have crashes like Silverstone 2022, Monza 2021, Spa 2018 etc. Would make the game so much cooler.
I’m not sure how true it is, so I could be wrong, but I heard that the don’t make those kind of damage physics because, the sponsors on the teams won’t be happy seeing their car get crumpled like it was Burnout Paradise.
A stupid reason if true, because, on this generation of gaming, we should have true to life F1 damage and, a game that genuinely punishes mistakes like real life.
As a person who likes detail and appreciates when someone puts time and effort into making videos perfect, I LOVE the attention to detail to change the transition screen from each game, with a Ferrari, at Monaco going around the same bit of track. 👏🏻👏🏻

I miss the crash physics & damage model of the old grand prix games from Geoff Crammond. Even the cars could break apart if you crashed hard enough.
The crash physics of the Codemasters-Game were always "meeh".
2016 replay camera looks by far the best, I didn't immediately realise I was watching the game and not the actual crash
I wish there was more damage and pieces falling off the car rather than staying attached by an infinitely long rod
I don't understand why they dropped the "confetti effect" when you hit something. It doesn't damage the sponsors but I feel like it adds a lot the accident. It's a simple, low-memory detail that adds a lot to the crash.
You bring tears to my eye of the evolution of f1 has captured those who are drawn to these videos

the damage model in the new games is pretty much non-existent, just the front wing and tires is ridiculous.
Car games in general get worse damage modelspoor. Heck, gta's dlc cars don't even have any damage deformation and it doesn’t even have licenced brands.
I miss the burnout series.
i think the big explosion of debris brings it closer to real life, in my opinione 2014 is quite good
I agree, maybe it's a bit over the top sometimes but definitely more realistic than slamming into a wall at 200mph and having just one tyre fall off
the older games feel more realistic because the tyre doesn't have a seizure when you crash
Definitely feel ya on the tires when you crash. Seems it was better in older games. Nowadays the the tires seem to be possessed.
Edit: we NEED G-Force for crashes back. Especially with how much the Max Lewis Silverstone crash was talked about. It'd be cool to see what the highest you could get is.

I think they need to have a look at the back of the car for better damage (like Tsunoda’s crash in Imola 2021 qualifying and Sargeant’s crash in Zandvoort 2023 in qualifying)

Me and my brother were playing f1 2009 together when we discovered a glitch in monza where if you hit a driver and the curb on the first corner you get send flying. The best collision I ever got was one that sent me into one of the stands to the left of turn 1.

F1 2013 and F1 2021 are my favs! i love F1 2017 too but i heard 2018 and 19 were great (havent played them.)

Something overlooked is the rock solid barriers. It would be nice to animate some elastic or plastic deformation into hitting a barrier rather than bouncing off them like the very pillars of the Earth.
