  • Saint Cuthbert died on March 20, 687 and was originally buried on the tidal island of Lindesfarne also known as Holy Island in England. After his death he became one of the most famous and venerated saints in all of England. The reason? His body refused to rot. The body of St. Cuthbert became one of the most important relics in England and His coffin was opened six different times over 1200 years. Generation upon generation wanted to see if the accounts of Cuthbert's body never decomposing were true. Could it be possible? This is the story of mysteries, miracles, mummification, and what happened to the body of St. Cuthbert. St. Cuthbert's body lies at Durham Cathedral.

"just ruined so many things" quite the understatement.... its like saying Hitler did some naughty things. Henry VIII was the most vile psycho tyrannical genocidal maniak that ever walked the the British isles.

Beautiful video Evelyn. I think it’s a miracle that we still know where Cuthbert was buried. Especially after everything his body went through. We can’t say the same for every King or Queen in the UK after the dissolution of the monasteries. Those that were buried in France didn’t fair much better either.

The reason is that saint's bodies do not suffer "corruption" (i.e., decay). There are saints on display in the world whose bodies look like they just died, regardless of how much time has passed since their death.
