      Im taking a wild guess in saying that he will improve his shot as he makes millions and has the best trainers in the world around him. His shot is also clearly fixable as he can only finish with his right hand, yet he shoots with his left. I have Brad Stevens 2nd on my COTY to Popovich, and I still haven't heard any real reasons why Popovich should not have won the last 8 coach of the year.

      I play like that bro. I shoot with my left, dribble and lay-up with my right. I drive to the right when I penetrate, I go left on picks when I intend to shoot.
      Unlike Ben, i was more a shooter than a slasher though. As for Ben, he needs to work on perfecting a floater on either hand, both if possible. It will enable him to have some offensive weapon in the midrange, it wont affect his slashing ability, and if he somehow becomes ambidextrous with it, he can confuse defenders.
      I somehow did that for a short time when I was younger, only I was small so I didn't need to slash and just stuck with outside shooting and passing. hahahahaha

    How the hell do you turn pro at a guard position, without learning to shoot at all??! What DID he do as a kid, exactly? Did he just pass the ball around? Drive? I mean, first thing we did when we were like 12, 13 years old kids was to learn how to shoot the damn ball. It was midrange, all day. Dribble and pass only came later. Was he a big during the most of his career, or what? But he has no post moves, either.. What a weird player. So raw.

      @badxgrass Před 6 lety +52

      Anthony Sims Yeah, but rondo was elite at play making and passing, and I mean ELITE. Then gradually improved his shooting. Ben Simmons should start working on his jumper immediately, career longevity and success goes hand in hand with a deadly jumpshot. Almost all of the legends had a J.

  • @rockwall5329
    @rockwall5329 Před 6 lety +55

    People need to realize that Ben Simmons most likely will NOT become a good shooter. He has has had so much time off to work on his post moves, his free throws, midrange, and 3 pointer (he has now been with the Sixers for two full years now), this is around the age where most NBA players stop improving their shot.
    Something interesting I think would work is if he started to shoot righty. He was born a righty, and from watching him it seems like he really prefers to shoot with his right hand. Maybe he should start over from scratch this offseason and shoot righty?

    • @fromdarktothelight9788
      @fromdarktothelight9788 Před 6 lety +10

      It's a possibility he may not. Lebron did not have the same shooting problems that Simmons does. Not even close. He wasn't the greatest shooter, but he could shoot.

    • @rockwall5329
      @rockwall5329 Před 6 lety +4

      PhantomoftheInterwebz I agree, Simmons needs to get to at least Rondo's shooting level, you can see players like Westbrook and DeRozan lacking a solid outside shoot and while they do amazing in the regular season, they get shut down in the playoffs.

    • @jimmtheballs
      @jimmtheballs Před 6 lety +2

      jimmtheballs Gordon Hayward has been shooting for months now with a broken ankle, Simmons could have easily done the same, or at least work on technique. Also, Simmons would have been playing if they needed him to, they were on the precautionary side with him. Still, he had an entire offseason to practice but his form is still awful, if he doesn't improve much next season you can't expect him to ever get a decent shot.

    Simmons is in a similar postition as Blake Griffin was at the beginning of his career. Undeniably talented and skilled on first glance, rookie of the year with a redshirt season and hyped up as the next best thing in basketball. But the only way for him to get there is if he is willing to change his game/work out routine to really balance out his weaknesses. And it didn't work out for Griffin, he was never able to develop a consistent jumper or polished post up game. Still an All-Star but not the superstar everyone expected.
    Right now I'd take Tatum over Simmons any day

    • @Player_Review
      @Player_Review Před 6 lety +8

      Blake didn't have any real competition from the draft class. John Wall's team was more horrible so Griffin was an easy pick. Blake also had some range, though nothing special (29% from 3-point, whereas Simmons is 33% from 5 feet away from the rim) and 22.5 PPG with 12.1 RPG, which is actually what you want for his position of PF. This year saw some talent in the draft class that really contributed to team's success, which is why the redshirt thing is a topic now and wasn't then.

      @takeswithjake Před 6 lety +7

      Good comparison, and you’re right, but at the same time, Simmons has a much higher ceiling due to his passing ability and defensive prowess. Griffin really can’t do anything consistently other than scoring.

      @mrmorhouse Před 6 lety +5

      J Farm98 Griffin gets shit on all the time for not evolving but still has the same numbers he put up his rookie year. Simmons could be the same.
      He may not ever develop a decent shot it might be too late he's already like 22 this year. You can't just learn to play basketball at the NBA level. Most guys that shoot well or shoot better could shoot well in college or early and honed it in. He has to create it develop it and master it all while being criticized by the world for not having it. And being expected to continue to put up these same numbers.
      It's going to he tough .

    • @kite0impulse
      @kite0impulse Před 6 lety +10

      You're right about the rookie comparisons but not about Blake's development. If you watch him in recent years, he's definitely acquired a very solid mid-range jump shot and his post game has improved (albeit not quite polished as you said) - the biggest thing holding Blake back so far has been injuries and the Clippers curse rather than any major aspect of his game.

    • @mr.magnolia
      @mr.magnolia Před 6 lety +2

      My idea for Simmons would be for him to have a role similar to Draymond Green, a strong defender with a mind for passing, but someone you can still turn to for scoring as a 4th/5th option. Have him sacrifice the idea of a reliable jumper, focus on getting stronger and learning how to play in the low post. He's in his second year, he's still got some room for developing his role.

    • @RemyMartin420
      @RemyMartin420 Před 6 lety +5

      Ian Poissant yeah but draymond can spread the floor, no role this day and age for any1 that cant spread the floor

    • @iangp1113
      @iangp1113 Před 6 lety

      Draymond doesn't effectively spread the floor for gsw. On pretty much any other team he would, but not when they have 3 deadly scorers. That's why he often gets open for those horrendous looking 3-pointers. Draymond's role is mostly defensive and to facilitate plays, as seen by one of his 5x5 stat lines or the triple double off of reb. ast. and steals. I think Simmons has the physical attributes for that kind of defense and has shown his knack for passing, which really could allow him to be that type of player. But then again, he and Fultz could both end up being busts and none of this would even matter.

    You can’t just blame Simmons for the loss. The whole Sixers team weren’t performing. First playoffs in years as well as them being up against a playoff juggernaut in Boston. The whole team will need adjusting if they are gonna compete next season that is for sure. But Simmons is still a beast and you can’t deny his talent and influence he has had in his first NBA season.

It is almost impossible to develop your shot from nothing to a NBA level, and if he finally does, the 76ers prime for winning a championship is probably at the tail end. He is even worse than Rondo, and Rondo is a terrible shooter. Doesn't help that Simmons is a bad defender, especially when a good coach like Brad Stevens knows what he is doing, and in every deep playoff run I promise you'll face at least one great coach.

He has time to improve, and shooting is something many players have gotten much better at with work. He will become more confident with a wider arsenal and experience in the postseason, lets just manage our expectations not not be quick to make negative judgments just because we're upset at those who were quick to make positive judgments.

    They are going to need Fultz to act as a point guard in the half court against tough defenses. And treat Simmons as a passing Forward that can hit people cutting or take it to the hole. If that ends up working out, taking Fultz could end up being the right choice for them.

    Coach I've been following you for 3 years now, and I gotta say I'm a bit dissapointed by your 1 dimensional analyses lately, you keep jumping to conclusions based on 1 matchup, or even worse at times, 1 game. The prime example being the videos on Rudy Gobert, "they can't win with him", "he's their key to victory", "nvm I was right the first time".
    Ben Simmons has been demolishing teams all year long, and as he gets more game experience, he'll just keep crushing it. He looked lost and unagressive at times during the series, which is what you'd expect from a rookie in that position. I really don't like this new trend on bashing on players cause of 1 bad game, or , overhyping them cause of one good game :(

Not many teams have a Horford on their side that can guard a guy that's virtually a PG, nor do they have a system like Brad Stevens, where every man helps out on defense. He's definetely stoppable, but there's only 2-3 unstoppable players in the league/world right now, and they're all way older, so "the BEN SIMMONS PROBLEM" might be blowing it a bit out of proportion, don't you think?

    There's been a contingent all year saying "come playoff time, the other team will pack the paint and BS will melt". Looks like that obvious observation was right, and he got exposed by a team missing its two best players. Crazy.

      Not sure about the 'rookie' part, but I agree that he needs time to improve, expectations were just too high. Most of these young players are going to get better at their weaknesses with time.

    This was downright hilarious to watch really, but it definitely does a great job of showcasing Ben's need to improve going forward. The fact that he has yet to see a need in changing his shooting mechanics is downright baffling to me.

    This is why i unsubbed. Do a pros and cons of a player... show what they do effectively and then balance it out with a detailed analysis of what they could do better with a hypothesis at the end to give a complete vision of their game.
    This just comes off as a youtuber clipping lowlights and giving commentary of mistakes that anyone who can operate the x0.5 function of their youtube player can make.
    Simmons was less than effective in this series with his terrible +/- which is unignorable but i'd much prefer a half and half breakdown rather than lowlights..... i could cherry pick Jordan misses in slow-mo and tell everyone why he fucked up with a "he was great" prelude but that wouldn't paint a complete picture.

      DAMAGE CONTROL You are the one who needs to be explained to how a guy who is 6'10 and controls the ball and can't shoot, can fix his issues when a defense is daring him to shoot. It is quite simple (yet it is hard at the same time), and if you're too stupid to figure it out then this sport isn't for you sir.

    this summer is going to be a pivotal point in Simmons career. If he doesn't get a lot better at shooting this summer, teams will all know how to defend him, and render him useless as a PG.

    good video and a great summary of my fellow countryman. Soluton is simple though. --> He has to develop a reliable outside shot over the next 2 to 3 years..
    He could even take 5 yeara and still have time left in the game to really make something of himself... Plenty of time and the right attitude it seems, i don't know if he'll be anywhere near the superstar some are saying (Australian's love him, but most of us sense he is being over-hyped but that's the American way I guess , its jusy very different to Aussies) ,......
    What i do know is, that he's a good player now, he's fun to watch and his outside shooting will only get better - he's just a kid, no suprise he has a weakness .. he won't be the first player to have to develop a shot after he turned pro and he won't be the last ... let it play out America ...
    Oh and hey, watch out for the Aussies !! we're comming - there's lot's more comming that you don't even know about yet - no suprise you have moved an international NBA talent developemnt programe to Australia...
    Most Aussies, only show a passing interest in the NBA, because cricket and footy fill the majority of our sport veiwing time... I played basketball to an elite level in Australia and coach development players now -- but I can tell you, footy is a far better game... !! To watch especially. Greatest game in the world played by the greatest atheletes in the world - without a single doubt. But Aussies do love (in fact crave) Olympic gold... ..
    Now, we play a different brand of basketball to the US - very much team first... We've pushed the US at Olympics and World Champs for a number of years - getting very close to winning on numerouse occasions now - wait until this new young breed of basketballers put on the green and gold .. i can certainly see some Gold Gold Gold in our future (well one can only dream) ...
