- McSorley's Old Ale House in New York City is not only one of the most historical bars in the United States, it's practically a museum. In operation since 1854 (some controversy there, though). Its walls are decorated with innumerable pieces of decor and memorabilia picked up over a century and a half of continuous operation. Have a couple of the house recipe ales and a liverwurst sandwich.

An awesome place.......
Went to McSoreleys about three years ago. What they say is true, there's just so much history in one location, it's like a living museum. Highly recommended.
Watched this just now after my father told me he and a friend were regular tourists there. Stay open. I'll visit when I feel like it.
Stopped in there today. The place reeks in history and Pepe is just the man to be behind the bar. Had a great time and he was a big part of it. Recommend it to anyone interested in History and a GOOD time.

Great video. Nice to see old historic pubs like this still going. You can't beat going into a place with rich history, as though you can feel the ghosts of the dead around you.
Memories! I remember when, in the 1970's, when the girls from women's lib started to enter the bar. OK, the bar owner at that time said, This is a Landmark, so, if the ladies want to come in, OK! But, as a landmark, I am not going to change anything. That included the "Men's Room." I remember going into the "Men's Room," and bumping into a "lady" walking out, or even a lady taking the "crapper" before me. What a time! I have not not been in NYC for years, but when I do go again, McSorleys will be my firs stop! And Pepe is still alive! God bless him!
McSorleys Old Ale House has got very good ales, nice environment, and it´s the oldest Irish pub in NYC. It really worth a visit. Don´t forget to stop by durng your next visit. I´m Brazilian and I was there last June with my wife and we really had a very good time.
The picture of "All Ireland Hurling Champions" Kilkenny is a nice touch.

As a former denizen of this street, I really enjoyed this. I used to get the Ploughmans Lunch at McSorleys. Love the ale.
Been goin there since i came 25 yrs ago to this country, my favourite bar in all the world, an ive been to many countries/citys/bars, I enjoy chuggin back them darks, meeting people from all over, with all there own unique stories, i have brought so many people here, everyone feels young in here, considering this place is 160 years old, lol. but you may have to explain the history behind mc sorleys before you bring people here, the place is a museum of history, the walls are streamed with old pictures, i personally enjoy the one with larry Hagman (aka JR ewing) along with bartender, ritchie walsh......heres to the next 160 years at mc sorleys,, xx. james heron,

I worked there a hell of a long time
I remember the barman telling me someone was sacked because they cleaned the old clock on wall.😂 Great wee bar would love to go back someday.
I was there there the day things changed....and there has been change after the court ruling....sadly...BUT still a wonderful tavern eXperience

How did you like it? I've been to McSorley's about 10 times. Never have I had a bad experience. If the place is getting busy though...You best be drinking, or you might get the crooked eye for taking up a table. LOL! I love this place.
Enjoyed drinking there. Got thrown out one Saint Patrick's day for trying to take a Rutgers button I saw.
There was a Documentary about McSorleys from a few decades ago.. was narrated by Edward Herrman.. anyone know the owner of the copyright and if the video is available for purchase?

Robert R O'Brien , Jr the bartender we interviewed there named Pepe started working there in the 70s and his job was to “guard the shithouse” when a woman was using the bathroom!
I went there in 1970 on a mission with some friends to get 1 guy who was facing his Army physical the next day, to get real drunk and eat as many saltine crackers as possible so his blood pressure would spike and thus fail the test . well we succeeded and he failed his physical and so was not drafted and didn't go to Viet Nam, as most of the guys in my neighborhood including me. I remember McSorley's like it was last week!

Can’t get McSorleys beer anymore. Don’t know if they have there own stash. Tryin to get it for years in my place. Pabst made it for awhile. They told me it’s discontinued. Please enlighten me if anyone has an update
Stopped bottling it somewhere around 2014. Sad - it was nice to have a few in the fridge at home
McSorleys Actual Ale was short lived, Lieberman made it for a while,(1950s), and Fidelio made it, (1930s). And now Pabst makes it, so no one in the past 100 years has actually tasted the real McSorleys ale

ive been to this place 2 times in my life......i saw the wish bones hanging on the old oil burners.....but just recently i found out why they are there.....and my gosh the story.....the lord forgives those who drink beers at this place......and thats as it should be......heres to you, till the boys all come home.......

He's very wrong about that neighborhood being part of the degenerate Bowery in the early years. This shows a lack of knowledge of local history.

@@Bucketlistbars Oh, I'm definitely right. It's not like its a big secret. The Bowery, back in the late 1700's and early 1800's was nyc's main thoroughfare lined with fine homes and mansions. Of course, the city only went as north as about Canal street. As the city expanded and grew in population the southern tip became less "desirable" so the right moved little by little, further north. You can still see many of these mansions, the best
preserved, of course, is "The Old Merchant's House," on 4th Street just off the Bowery. So. . .
The 69th was not sent back to put down the draft riots. This dude's history is terrible.
