YES, this - we watched this and not only learned of this bar for the first time, we also said ROAD MOVIE. These two have what it takes.
Have Loy give a tour of Jamaica, Queens.

I always thought McSorleys was oldest. Glad you're around to straighten things out.
Fantastic video, Tom. You don't know what you got 'till it's gone. So, support locals...
I watch your videos with my husband on our tv and then again on my phone to support you. 😀
100% you all are matching energy. More with him please. This makes me want to visit this restaurant and I'm nowhere near NY
the end lol 😆 Tom is hilarious 😂
Great success story for a local business. I will definitely visit next time I am in New York.
Loy's a funny guy! you both work great!!
I work not too far away, at 111th & Jamaica Ave. I definitely plan on bringing the family here for some wings and burgers. Great video!

Thanks for making this video I work all over the 5 bureaus and I never heard of this place,I will 100% be stopping by this great place!!!
The place is a gem and Loy is the genuine article- a great guy. Once you visit you’ll become family like the rest of us.
Awesome interview and Awesome video. Thank you Tom! Sick Plug!! "I’m funny how? Funny, like, I’m a clown? I amuse you?"
"It's a good time to get b-roll...(pans up)" That was great. Tom is pretty funny too.
What a nice man and quaint historical bar. I'm sure the burgers are delicious. It's wonderful to preserve history. I loved the story about the son who relives the life he should have had with his father via the bar where his father hung out. I have a friend who grew up in Queens and his adoptive father enjoyed beer and bet on the horses too and probably hung out at the same bar. From what I was told he was a kind-hearted brilliant man named John who often wore a trench coat and lived his life in a schizophrenic fugue. At times, he'd call himself Mr. F**k. lol He'd disappear for weeks at a time. It was always a mystery to his wife and son as to his whereabouts. Now I know where he may have hung out. lol I think I'll send the link to his son:-)
I forgot to say, he had a high-powered job and an inventive mind when he suddenly lost his mind one day. Can schizophrenia hit in the 40s? I guess so. It happened to him.
GREAT MOMENT...
Will be visiting NYC from Europe for the 4th time next year. Wil make an effort to visit this bar, never been to Queens in the first place, so :)
That’s quite the travel to visit a neighborhood where people just live
@@MrJimheeren queens is the worlds borough. Brooklyn and Queens is the more authentic part of NYC

Got a little teary eyed listening to the story he told of getting to sit with the father, & how much he cares for this bar!
Tom you create such good content, Eric you always make it extra great too!
Thank you for such a great video!
The tavern is a gem and Loy is that great guy you see in the video. Once you visit, you’ll become family like the rest of us.
@@VanceBarbour it sounds like a perfect place, owned by a sincerely wonderful friend...truly magical!
Great interview and wonderful bar. I will have to visit there sometime soon!!!
One of the best videos yet!
I could visit NYC for the next 100 years and still see something new and interesting. Loved this one Tom.
Brilliant video! Would love to see a rockaway beach Tour.
Thats so funny i work at the Crowne plaza hotel everyone that wants a good bar i send over there because one guest one time told me neirs tavern is a good pub i never know the history behind it. WOW AMAZING!!! I will be sending more guest over there for sure.
Tom never disappoints.
You do very well with interviews. Hope to see more of those 😊
It's not the only restaurant that has a road named after it. In Kensington, Brooklyn New York City, on Cortelyou Road and Coney Island Avenue, there's a restaurant called George. The small section of Coney Island Avenue right in front of it is called "Georges Way."
Thanks Tom...will definitely stop in for a meal next time I'm back in NYC. Know Queens well but for some reason this bar has eluded me. The owner is really 👍 and wish him much success.
I just got a must watch list for HBOmax and guess what movie was on there? Matrix Resurrection 🤣
Great collaboration ,good fun and so very interesting.. hurry back with more .
Great bar, great video. Thanks
One of my favorite vids yet! You should do more about specific spots!

I've only been to Syracuse in 1997 not even close to new york but that's as far as I got. I was only 16 at the time. I'm now way much older now. I just love the history of New York.. keep em coming Tom your doing great 👍🏽

Stopping by next time while in NYC. Great story and wonderful owner. Thanks -
Interesting.
I’ll be in NY on Sunday and I’ll try to make it over!
Glad I stumbled across you're channel. Lobe the content and you're childish comedic takes 🤣. The fact the owner has a sense of humour puts the icing on the cake.
This is the best video I’ve seen so far that guy should be your cohost he was great!
Another great episode! Very informative as always. Bar owner seems very nice and I'll try my best to swing by next time I visit! Keep up the good work Tom! Love the channel

Superbe visite dans le New York d'avant !
hello Tom, greetings from Germany, your videos are great, I hope you come back to Germany soon :-😉😉
I love your walking videos but this one was definitely one of my favourites. Always interesting to learn about the history of local businesses
#sick-plug
Really interesting place!
Great content as always, guru of Gotham city.
Yo I can't wait to try this place!
Very cool video. My last trip to NYC, I went to McSorely's to have a few in what I thought was the oldest bar. I will now have to go to Neir's on my next trip, especially since Goodfellas was filmed there.
Definitely go!
Really nice interview. Loy seems a really top bloke
Fabulous video as usual. Still would enjoy having you on my show for an interview soon. Get in touch.
Awesome video! Do Francis Tavern next!! And Stone Street!
Good Ol' dine and dash Tom....lol
Reminds me of the bar in Tree's Lounge.
Added to the list
nice gem spa hat! also great vid as always
love it
The story Loy told about the man posthumously connecting with his deceased father was so sweet and such a great fit for Tom's philosophy of supporting the local businesses that give a neighborhood or city its character.
Dammit, Tom! I was so excited to say, "We're witnessing something special here, folks. An episode where Tom didn't razz Eric about the Matrix!" but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Nevertheless, a wonderful episode. I really enjoy hearing about the history of neighborhood spots like Neir's. Spots that have become integral to the fabric of a community over multiple generations. Very cool! Oh, I almost forgot: that B-roll footage was some top shelf tastiness.
Why didn't the kid's bar-fly father spent more time with his family?
@@vincentgoupil180 I think the way it was described was more that he had a tumultuous relationship with his pops, not necessarily that the dad was too busy bellying up to the bar to be a present father.
@@MikeP2055
6:54 The kid "never got to know him (the father)". Yea, he was at the bar with other barflies rather than being a father spending time with his own child. Great at telling stories to strangers, sheet to a kid when he needed a father. Sad the 'kid' is still looking for the father he never had.
The community Tom talks about starts at home with the family first. If they "didn't get along" then its the responsibility of the parent to work it out.
If the father was alcoholic then he needed help, not at a bar. Its the *family* that suffers.
P.s.
I grew up in an adjacent neighborhood with pently of kids with abandoned fathers like that.
Instead of some Hollywood movie photos hanging on Neir's walls the movie "Trees Lounge"* should be.
* shot on location at Assembly Bar just north of where this video was.
Love Loycent !!
you should do one on Westchester, yonkers to be exact
I live 15 minutes away I’ll definitely check it out
omg I was supposed to go there on my last trip! Circumstances etc...next time!
Right on Loycent..
Tom, saving NYC one bar at a time.
Loy came off pretty well but the story about the son having to see where his father spent his time was sad. You think his bar-fly father would've at least spent some time with his family
Yea, a community place ... if you're Henry Hill. Regardless it was a movie that's the impression one gets .
The city didn't give landmark status because of the "oligarchy of the Manhattan centric system" yet gave a $90,000 grant to the bar. Go, figure. (See Wikipedia: Neir's Bar).
Have Steve Buscemi give a tour of "Trees Lounge". At least Loy touring Jamaica, Queens, with Tom.
👍😊❤️
