    Nice video, decent selection of budget players to consider and i've saved that list for future reference for any saves I do 👍

    This was fun. Doing some helpful legwork for filling the gaps. I remember Sgt Mushroom who used to make OOTP videos would do high value trade targets for new editions, but I often play the sorts of teams that need 'plugs' like this in the way of a few last moment minor league contracts.

      Thanks, appreciate it! I've been thinking about doing a similar video on trade targets, but thus far it has been pretty difficult for me to come up with a list of players that are actually interesting that the other team isn't asking for a king's ransom in return.

    In this video I learned that adaptability affects how quickly a player learns new roles. Never knew that.

    As someone who almost always plays the Yankees in this game I love that you clued me in to Luis Amaya. A lefty with 6 guaranteed years of team control who will develop into someone that will give up .1 HR/9; Sign me up!

    Thanks so much for making this video, your channel put me over the top on my decision to buy the game. I’ve been out of the baseball loop for a LONG time but have more free time now and the White Sox are the team I want to take over. Any advice for that challenge??? 😬

      Good luck with the White Sox, they are still on the short list of teams I might play for my long-term sim as well! The Benintendi and Jimenez contracts aren't horrible, but they certainly aren't good contracts either. I think if I was playing in Chicago, I'd figure out whether I wanted to try to dump both of them right away, let Moncada go after the season, and really embrace trying for a quick turnaround via free agency and the trade market, versus keeping those contracts around, accepting I'd be bad for a couple years, and aggressively rebuilding the farm system by taking advantage of drafting near the top for the next few seasons. Hope you have fun with the Sox!

    Great video! I especially loved the idea of giving hurt players a multi year deal with team options. I just waited until Boyd would accept a ML contract with no guarantee, but I like the value of the team options.
    I’ve been doing an Angels rebuild, so pairing Neto with one of the bad contracts like Tyler Anderson works well in a trade situation. I filled in with Elvis Andrus off the FA market, who has great personality and okayish ability at SS or 2B. Adeiny Hechavarría is a better fielding option, but lacks the personality.
    I think Michael A. Taylor is a good, cheap option for a backup OF on contending teams or even a CF upgrade for teams without a decent CF.

      Thanks for the thoughts! I ended up with Andrus the first season of my Seattle mini-series I'm playing now, agree he was good value with that great personality and solid glove. I'll have to check out Hechavarria. I have used MAT at times in the past, but I always get frustrated with him when he's struggling to hit .150 and never really end up taking advantage of that great defense in CF - I probably need to be more patient! Jackie Bradley Jr. and Manuel Margot have been like that for me in the past too... I am intrigued by the defense, but if they don't hit right out of the gate I get frustrated with the lack of offense!

      @@oldschoolsports I like MAT because you can guarantee him like $1.5m/1yr and then flip him easily later. I felt like I got value even though he was barely above replacement value when I traded him just before deadline. Got some decent lotto ticket 17-19 year old players.
      AH started off decently for me, but I unfortunately missed the window to trade him. Had to keep him, which was fine because I was tanking anyway. His defense degraded, which made him useless to me.
      But your video is especially fantastic for those of us who are playing rebuilding teams. We just can’t get attached to them. Omg! Is Austin Meadows amazing??? (He had a line of like .300/.430/.550). No! Flip him now!

      @@GCheekEnergy Ha, exactly, if you can get something valuable for something you grabbed off the trash heap, you have to do it!

    I started a save and a lot of the players are on $740,000 minimums. Do players ever sign extensions for the minimum as they never seem to?

    • @oldschoolsports
      @oldschoolsports  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I think it's pretty rare for them to do that. Can't say it never happens, but I can't recall anyone signing an extension for the minimum.
