There is actually a shortage of copper worldwide because of all the new technologies that needs it.
That explains why scrap copper prices have gone way up!!

Isn’t the gold in the plastic? I’m wondering if you have to incinerate the plastic to liberate the gold, then the copper plates would separate easily in that process? Idk, I have a decent amount of these I’ll get to one day😅

Thanks for this video! I have a whole coffee can full of these MOSFETS. I knew they were copper but didn't know how I wanted to take them to my scrap yard. Now I know I can clean them (in my "spare" time) for #2. God bless!

The one that look like Moffetts that are soldered to the board are photo couplers, put with IC. They have LEDs inside with gold bond wires.! Again Great video! Nice copper bar !!

getting soldered mosets off pcbs is very easy using no heat. I clean my boards using an old 1 inch wide wood chiel. I can clear everything off a motherboards in a couple of minutes
I tried it once and it didn’t work, guess I should try again. Thank you.
Glad to see there's an easier way. I was smashing with a hammer and the cleanup was causing me to rethink the value of opening them up.

Did a large circuit breaker yesterday with a pound of copper in it, still questioning my sanity after fighting with it for an hour 😂

Its all how tou look at it. Sitting in front of the TV for that hour will get you paid nothing. Getting one pound of copper will get you some money. And besides the fun you have doing it.

sometimes you can take things to far and will do things for little returns. i don't have a truck only a car with a trailer so i mostly focus on things that contain copper and require breaking down to unlock the value. mostly just find things when im going to and from work/errands. whatever i make is just extra money i don't really need so what i did was i opened a brokerage account and all my scrap money goes in there and i buy stocks with it. when you're scrapping something out and you figure you spent all that time and only made 8$ hr, in the long run that invested money will grow and hat time spent will have been worth way more. building a retirement fund with "garbage"

Hey mate I went straight out to the shed to try this. Awesome tip! I also found that in some cases you can twist the Cu off the Mosfet whilst it us still attached to the board.

Great copper bar, that thing with the four legs you can send to boardsort as an ic, I sent a picture to Chris from boardsort agile ago and he said they buy them as ic chips

I use two small pliers side cutting and end cutting. Holding and twisting. It's fast and less force requires, I think. Thank you for great videos.

I grab the exposed copper with a side cutters and use a pair of channel locks to hold the plastic. Then twist. They pop apart easily.
Absolutely, I’ve done it that way but I find it’s less wear and tear on my hands and wrists using the vise.

@@grijzekijker yeah copper will be there but much less than in mosfet but from other side as you look at mosfet´s there is chance for silver and gold ... tiny chance and for small amount but there is anyway copper does moost value out of them ...cheers

That sucks your yard won't give you #2 with the plastic on them. My husband had to speak to the yard supervisor because at first they were saying they were the same as faucets that weren't clean. And I'll never forget my husband asked what the MOSFETs were classified as and when the yard guy said F metals (dirty brass basically) my husband said " wrong these are copper and plastic and since copper#2 is described as " copper with some impurities " I'm sure copper with paint and soldering is#2 so copper with plastic must be #2 also. The next time we went to drop off the guys said my husband was right. I'm not saying go argue with your yard but might be worth a mention

My yard gives me domestic copper (lowest of the low grade copper) which is about $4.30 a kg (2.2lbs) but I get $10.30 a kg for number 2 and I have about 40ish kgs to go to the yard so may as well do it and get the number 2 prices if I get atleast 20kgs Itll still be worth the money and time to process .. god bless brother and thank you for another insightful video

@@scrapitall200 I do have a lot to process I had a computer repair shop down the road close down so I brought all his little chachskis so heaps of these things heaps of fuses and cpu heat sinks and so on so fourth so a lot of micro scrapping but I love micro scrapping while watching tv

MOSFETS sounds like something from a Star Wars movie. Either way, I collect these. A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away I turned these in with copper bearing motors once. Definitely should’ve been worth more than that!

You can also stick the transistors in sidewways and just lock down the vise. The just take your pliers and pull down on copper back. The plastic usually just falls off after squeezing the thing.

Also a lot of the older ones were a Silver/Tin coatings not nickel. Silver/Tin transfer heat better than the nickel will which is the point of the heatsink on them.😊

You can do the same thing a couple pair of pliers. Just grab the copper with one set and the plastic with the other set and pull.

The plastic have gold in little amount, but i believe the plastic can sold about $2 / KG

have you tried having the mosfet turned so its perpendicular to the vise jaws and just compress it with the vice handle to pop the plastic off? I havent tried it but it might save the step of grasping it with the wire cutters
I have tried that and it does work, it just takes more effort with tightening the vise. This way seems to work best for me. Thank you!
Those bigger ones with no heating isn't a mosfet. It's a full bridge rectorfier.

I lay them flat on my work bench and just give a tap with the claw end of my hammer, done. There's no need to mess with the vice on every one.
Makes too big of a mess for me, but too each their own.

I have quite a few mosfets..I place them into a vice sideways & crank until I hear the plastic crack. What is the material that is left on the plastic? It almost looks like a small piece of silver!!
I’m not entirely sure, I think it’s whatever holds the plastic to the copper. I’m confident it’s not silver though.

I heard that it’s the older ones that are silver and the newer ones are tin coated.
I don’t mess with the tiny anoints of silver or gold on these mosfets, I prefer to just sell them for copper.

How would the scrapyard know if all those micro pieces are copper or brass or anything else?
I brought in a few and showed them so they could see the copper. So when I go back to the scrap yard they’ll know what they are.

If you ever aren’t sure what the scrap yard will buy something as, just bring it in and ask them, majority of yards are more than willing to answer questions.

The ones that u say u have to melt to get them off u dont have to melt them.. u can use a chisel and a small hammer and just tap them off..
I didn’t say melt, I said heat. I just wanted to clear that up because melting anything with plastic is toxic.
I tried that once and it was way more trouble than it’s worth, imo.

I have several pounds of shark bite fittings I'm trying to scrap out. They have some plastic and some metal inside the opening. My only thought would be using an angle grinder
