- Former Chelsea and Nigeria midfielder Jon Obi Mikel lifts the lid on a glorious decade at Stamford Bridge, in which he won all of the game's major domestic prizes and played under a raft of managers, from Mourinho to Di Matteo. Jon Obi does not hold back with some brilliant tales from the Chelsea dressing room, including the time Mourinho made Mo Salah cry and why nobody could stand Rafa Benitez!

This man’s a chelsea legend. Always smiling, great work ethic, great player
He doesn’t know when to stop talking tho
Mourinho built chelsea's dna,he created winners and when he left most of his players were still there winning because built characters at chelsea
He made chealse so popular in Africa, especially in Nigeria
What an insightful interview, i love the way the hosts asked these questions, Mickel is such a lovely guy, I wish him the very best in life. Football is truly a beautiful sport.
Mikel

M ?
The guys are excellent at asking questions
Watching this after we just lost 1 - 0 against Southampton. What a difference in mentality. Hoping we get it back some day...
A perfect definition of a team player.
The reason why I am Chelsea fan today
Honestly Micheal Essien was my favourite player at Chelsea...l dont remember him having a bad game...so underrated...Obi Mikel won 11 trophies in 10 years at Chelsea...who can regret that...each year he had a trophy...
Essien was a beast
I didn't realise 35 minutes could be that short...An amazing interview it was.
So True.....such an insightful interview...He laid it all out!! ..LOL
Wow thanks for all the positive comments guys. John Obi Mikel is easily one of the best guests we’ve ever had on the show. And he lives in Dubai now, so he’ll be back on again soon!
John* 😉
Both hosts so prepared and knowledgeable. Great interviewers.
Great interview from u guys
Great interview guys. Love from 🇿🇦
Obi Mikel has great stories
This is the Chelsea’s DNA. Big team players now we have boyscouts
Beautiful interview. Haven't seen Mikel this animated,. Thank you for the memories and making Nigeria proud. We love you Mikel.
As a Nigerian supporting Arsenal I always secretly wished Chelsea well because of Mikel. He was such a wonderful player to watch both at Chelsea and the National team. I wish him the very best
That squad had the Nigeria, Ivory Coast, England, Ukraine, Czech and German captains. Of course it was brimming with character
Don't forget Serbia! Everyone seems to forget ivanovic
@@armanrazaknazir5352 Right! I knew i forgot someone!
A squad of men. Big boyz
My coach always said when a player gets an excessive amount of injuires it's mainly due to them not looking after themsleves or training well. It doesnt suprise me when it comes to Eden Hazard. If you don't train hard enough, the body eventually wears out. He's paying the price at Madrid for not looking after himself.
He needs to come back to tell us the story of how he played a world cup/ AFCON match for Nigeria after speaking with kidnappers who were with his Dad, and he didn't show any worry while playing.
Matter o
Because sometimes football is the best distraction from life's problems.
Ah! That happened?
How did it eventually turn out? Was he ransomed?
May be he put his carrier before his Family….who knows?
We need a whole series with Mikel. That was pure joy and entertainment.
That season changed my life . My Chelsea predictions from quarter finals got me on radio and changed my life forever
The most underrated player ever. He would be the best if he was in this generation
Yeah I’d agree he was massive and could do everything
You hit it on the head. Mikel was ahead of his time. Nowadays fans appreciate & value Rodri, Enzo, Rice, type of midfielders much more today than when Mikel was in his prime. Back then Chelsea fans criticized him for keeping it simple & retaining possession.
@@obieWanmotivation don’t forget busquets
@@ojvic7297 For sure.👍🏾
smh
One of the best football interviews I have watched in a long time. It was a very honest conversation and what Mikel said about so many Africans becoming Chelsea fans because of him is the truth. Most of my friends who became serious Chelsea fans became fans because of John Obi Mikel.
The hosts did a very nice job, asking difficult questions while making your guest feel at home. Love you guys.
That’s for the kind words appreciate that!
Very true
I know a lot of people who became Chelsea fans because of him
I love Obi Mikel ! Criminally underrated
This is possibly the best podcast episode I've ever watched, Mikel was not holding anything back, I've learned more about how football clubs are like on the inside from this video than anything I've ever seen before, I so wish this was a 2, 3, 4 even 5 hour video, I'd still watch every second of it.
What an absolute Chelsea legend he is
Mo Salah and Kevin DeBruyne are simple examples of giving players time.
What makes you think going to another club, another league isn't EXACTLY what made them better players? Maybe being at Chelsea wouldn't make them who they are today.
Nope. Give young players playing time. That's the lesson. You give them time without playing time it's useless. And those young player can't start at chelsea team back then, at highest level you need reliable players, managers gonna be hard to start those younster when their job on the line.
I liked Obi's attitude towards playing Big Teams. He was always classic in the midfield
John Obi Mikel our own Zidane! Thanks for the memories Mikel!
Man's carried Nigeria on his back, a true legend
I never imagined Mikel could speak this good I didn't want this interview to stop.. keep going guys
Nigeria speak English
WTF?
Chill guys I didn't mean speak English lol I meant the way he flowed all through the interview very crisp his story telling.
Mikel Is from Nigeria and Nigeria is a British colony.. he stays in Chelsea London England for 11 years
@@arinzemuojimbe was a British colony
Simply legendary stuff, he went to Chelsea when there was no path and left a trace. Best interview I ever watched
That Chelsea isn't the same today. Sad...Michael Essien, Didier Drogba, Obi Mikel (it used to be hilarious how Obi would still look for someone to pass the ball to score even if he was left with the goalkeeper! But great midfielder), Peter Cech, Lampard, Eden Hazard,,,man!
Top Man Obi Mikel. Always loved him in Blue now we get the authentic person.
My legend. My favorite Chelsea player of all time. So underrated
Mikel and Drogba is the reason why i became a Chelsea fan💙
Genuinely, one of the most underrated players. What a guy❤
Good to see this dude again...havent kept up with his life since long ago..brings back alot of memories as a chelsea fun..its funny that John Obi Mikel and Messi once played in one heated youth world cup and even though Messi won i think in penalties, that's when the World learned who is Mikel a because he was like the Man of the tournament, and from there the rest is history...glad to see him still going strong and always smiling..
Mikel and Essien were beasts at chelsea
What a player. Absolute icon of this club. I loved when he laughed at “Graham Potter” too 😭😭
What a joke
Wow! Wow!! Wow!!! This is indeed one of the greatest interviews have heard in the history of Nigerian players. His analysis is simply pure and genuine. I appreciate your love for your country. You sacrifice your place in Chelsea because of the National call. That was something few people can do. No wonder God blesses you so richly at Chelsea. You can never be forgotten in Chelsea and Nigerian football history. It pained me that you did not win African best that year. You were indeed robbed. God knows best! We love you, Mikel!
Great interview. Please bring him back soon.
This was my Chelsea. Talented, determined, professional, hardworking and strong leadership. Gods we were glorious then.
Legend, was privileged to see him the day after this interview in Dubai, I asked for a pic and he agreed, such a humble guy.Thank you Mikel.
we really love this interview from Nigeria. please interview more Nigeria Players like Victor Moses Osimeh from Napoli. thank u so much.
Miss you mikel. Love the interview
As a Manchester united fan I adore Jon Obi Mikel what a player!
I remember the two years Jon Obi played for Lyn in Oslo. He absolutely wrecked havoc in our league, and he was only a kid. Amazing talent!
How I wish this clip would be shown to our current players so they could see and learn how to win.
My country and club legend..Mikel history will forever remember you... #Silent Assasin
Lovely interview, never seen John this animated. I was sad when he was robbed of the African Player of the year.
Damn I never wanted it to end. Absolutely brilliant interview. I need more from Jon Mikel Obi
In terms of achievements, I believe he's maybe only second to Samuel Eto'o as an African player in the past 20 years. What a player. What a career. Should write a book about his time in football in the next few years
I had always loved Chelsea but I started supporting Chelsea fully after they signed Mikel and then I fell in love with the rest of the team and I’ve been a blue with no regrets at all ever since. Thank you legend for being an absolutely amazing player for the blues 💙💙💙
Jon Obi is beautiful…. Absolutely amazing human being
Mikel is such a great player,,, a lovely Guy, always have this smiling face 😊💕 the entire Chelsea community love you 🌹💐
I’m an Arsenal fan and lucky to be a Nigerian, wow 😮... great interview I have ever watch , honesty on another level. Mikel need to write his own book 📚
God I miss the old Chelsea 💔
Man I’d love to listen more Roman’s outrage at the training ground. I think even the media didnt know about this.
same. I didn't think he cared that much
It's always a pleasure listening to Mikel. Can Mikel come on as a sports analyst? We definitely need to see and hear more of this guy!
Classy guy, class player, crazy how underrated he is and was 💙💙💙💙💙💙
Great interview John Obi Mike. Thanks a lot for nailing this interview its just great to see you happy and healthy.
Thank you so much for your honest opinion about the Bison, another great player such as you.
Ghana is proud of you our Nigerian brother.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Incredible. I never really knew that Obi Mikel speaks. I thought he just sat in the hole making tackles. I never saw him doing much with the spoken word but it turns out he's got quite a lot to say.
Essien was a machine its because he had bad injury like Kante now. Essien was a upgrade to Makelele. Most of our Chelsea ballers never got the credit they deserve because even him was a legend but ppl talk more about Henry and Veirra like they the only players playing. Look at Lampard xavi intesta or no 1 had nothing over him but a world cup
I think Michael Essein is the world 🌎 best player. Every underrated 😢
The era that I became a Chelsea supporter . seeing that Chelsea team play was something else 💙
Lovely chap, great servant to our club, and very enjoyable interview.
Didn’t want this interview to finish. Top top guy
A Nigerian Legend🇳🇬🙌🏿
Growing up in 2006, 2007, 2008, everyone wants to be the Mikel in the street team. Great player for club and country.
As an Arsenal fan must say great interview he gave great insight to those classic Chelsea teams
I left Barcelona to support Chelseafc, because of Mikel.
Am very impressed about mikel obi he is a genius and a true legend for Chelsea thanks for the interview and see you again
The energy and excitement during this interview is on a whole differerent level. We need a part 2 of this. Great interview!!!
John Obi brought the unique energy, glad you enjoyed the interview
John Obi❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This was an amazing interview with an oft overlooked member of that core Chelsea squad. Definitely need to have him back! Great work with the questions and flow of the interview.
Once you have JT in front of you, you’re going to war!! … I miss the old school Chelsea… all warriors. Ashley Cole & them. Never say die type of players.
Not sure people know how good this guy was as a youth player. e was on Messi's level at that U20 world cup in 2005. Mourinho changed his game and the rest is history. I think he would have been a lot like KDB is today.
Yet he didn’t really seem to say positive things about Mourinho
Would have been a future tense. He might as well wouldn't have been.
For crying out loud 11years in club isn't a child play. I think Jose elongated his football career by moving him into a defensive midfielder that made him last longer.
He said he had no regrets about that.
I can't believe how much I enjoyed listening to mikel speak....what an insightful interview. 😁
Absolute Legend, thank you and good luck with your future John 👍
Most technical gifted Nigerian player I have seen. You only talked about the 2013 robbery but 2005 under 21 was also a robbery , because at that level you were a class apart. Thanks for all sacrifices you did for the national team, especially when your father was kidnapped. Do have a wonderful life after football
Do you know who Jay Jay okocha is?
@@samserwadda253 do you know the difference between tactically and technically gifted? Before I answer your question
@@dicksonoliseyenum7652 your own words were ' most technical gifted Nigerian player i have seen'. I disagree with your statement. Jay Jay okocha was way more technically gifted than obi mikel no debate.
Kanu Nwankwo
John Obi Mikel. Proper Chelsea legend 💯💙👍
Love the energy in this room
Loved loved loved this interview!
How did I ever miss this interview. Really enjoyed it
He was one of my favourites Chelsea players Obi Mikel. Lovely guy
One of the most underrated players of all time!!!! Just loved every bit of it. Hope there is longer one soon . Am true United fan .. felt goosebumps on the pre contract talk with fergie scene Phew… what a moment! And yes we don’t talk about essein a lot. Humble .. a joy .. and great human being job obi mikel!
Beautiful interview! ❤️
Imagine how terrifying it is for a Russian to scream at you.. 🤣 Enjoyed every bit of the interview 🙌🏾
Wow the hiding secret within Chelsea and man United about Mikel obi has been reviewed to me today and am very much happy with the information . Mikel I just want to let you know that am one of your biggest fan in Nigeria and am also hoping for you to be a coach some day, I could have also love you playing football again.
This is an interview I never knew I needed. I enjoyed every bit of it.

THIS WAS WONDERFUL , GREAT INTERVIEW!👏
This was such a great in-depth interview!
really enjoyed the interview. Mikel really a nice guy.
I love this interview, but my question is, why is this interview only becoming popular after four months of its release ?
It was a hidden gem for so long 😂
Nigerian and Arsenal fan here. Glad Mikel is getting this love in the CS. Played his best under Jose.
Top interview that gives a great insight into my team
One of the best interviews I’ve watched in my life. Thank you for this 💙
LEGEND in my eyes.
