Problem Solving Your Retriever Training

- Your retriever training is a process in which both you and your retriever learn. It is inevitable that mistakes are made through the training process. These mistakes will be made by both you and your labrador. Being able to identify the cause of the issue will help both of you learn, adjust, and move through it.
When problems do arise, you should first ask yourself if it was something you did. If not, and it's the retriever, was it a willful choice, is the dog confused, or does the dog just not know what you're asking them to do? Keeping these in mind will help you work through the issue. As always, be patient, take your time, and simplify the retriever training drill if you and your dog are having issues.

There is not nearly enough content out there like this. Too many training videos are simply showing you how to go through the exercise of a drill, and they usually do this with a trained dog. Knowing how to address the challenges and corrections while training the dog is what I have had a hard time finding out there. Keep up the great content.
This was awesome! Appreciate you putting content like this out there for us who want more for our dogs and ourselves to follow!
I don't know ANYONE that sends a dog like you do!
You really do have some of the best training videos. This is very important. Training us and not so much the pup/dog.
Thank you for showing what to do when your dog doesn't do what is intended. It is good to see what the dog is supposed to do but I have trouble finding videos showing what to do when the dog doesn't do what is intended.
Mistakes happen. Knowing what to do in that situation is just as important as anything when it comes to retriever training.
Brilliant to see the issues in reality...
Great content!! I enjoy your channel
Thanks for watching!
You say dogs don't know.
What I think is that dogs and their trainer need to learn each other's language.
Dogs, especially labs are very smart, once they learn your language.
The trainer needs to watch the dog for nervousness, indecisiveness, and for obedience.
Learn each other's ways and all will work out.
Great video!
Thanks!
Josh all your new training videos are great. I'm a amateur dog trainer and I try to put out great content like this working my own dogs.
Thanks for showing people it dont happen over night there's alot of time put into dogs teaching them what were asking.
Thanks for watching!
What are the whistles you use and what commands are they associated with? Thank you!
What brand and type of whistle are you using for your training?
Could you make a video on what to do when the lab doesn’t come directly toward you when you throw the dummy for them? Say they get it and run a different direction. What should I do? Thanks!
helpfull video. when training my dog she is really good at the start. she sits, stays, and waits till i tell her to retieve the bumper. but after about 5 retrievs she is no longer interested. would this be because she is getting bored?
Yes throw 4 next time
when i ever i get my pup to stay he never will take off to get the gummy. He just will sit their looking confused.
How ya train your dog to have a soft mouth when retrieving
My wife always said that the dog can be only as smart as the trainer. Give us an idea of time involved in training.
On an average, when you have a 1-2 year old ,how many hours do you have invested? How much time a day is too much time for a 1-2 yr old.
That's a tough one to answer because every dog is different and has it's own personality, likes, and dislikes...just like us a humans. Some crave work and competition and want to be out all day, I call these the Michael Jordan dogs because there's almost no limit. To the other extreme, we have some that only want a few retrieves and maintenance drills and provided they do it correctly and happy that's all they need. So you really must to get to know your dog and what amount of time works best for the individual.
