- After just over a year on the market, Truthear unexpectedly discontinued the fan-favorite Hola. Well, it's back now -- except now it's called the Gate, and they've taken the sound in a... surprising direction. Still, I'm hyped that it's back. Let's talk about why.

What's your favorite cable? Join the community and share your thoughts 👉 social.squig.link/
My favorite cable is the one that sounds like a cable
-Timmy, probably
That 2-pin connector head on the cable is perfect. The funny thing is the FR difference between Hola and Gate would be dismissed as almost imperceptible a few years back. Probably because reviewers were looking at differences in isolation for frequency subranges. And now we know that overall balance/tilt matters a lot.
Still lots of people that don't know a sensible way of reading graph. They probably missed what makes Gate tuning special for sure.
I assume that the Hola was discontinued for cost reasons, so with that in mind, I think the Gate did a good job of giving people what they liked about the Hola, while being more cost effective. The cable is just so good for the price, and you get a decent free IEM with it as well.
You think the shell material was the prohibitive cost? Hola shell plastic is pretty nice.
@@SuperReview yeah, the 3d printed shell felt nice
I agree in terms of the cable and the accessories. The Gate's overall tuning is noticeably different from the relaxing tuning of the Hola. The Gate's tuning is very similar to the original 7Hz Zero yet with around 1 dB more bass and mid bass. I wouldn't say that the Gate's tuning is relaxing since the Gate, unlike the Hola, does not have a slightly relaxed rise for the simulate pinna gain in the 1 kHz to 4 kHz region.
I agree with Ryan that the Zero 2 has a relaxing overall sound signature even though this is achieved in different ways in comparison to the Hola. The Hola and the Zero 2 are two IEMs which fall into my "chill pill" category of IEMs which are relaxing to listen to. The Gate does not.
@@SuperReview yeah. The hola shell was 3D printed resin and I believe the face plate was a thin piece of metal that’s painted. The gate is Injection Moulded I believe, which would be much cheaper to mass produce
@@SuperReview Yeah the shell is too expensive combined with the cable
The closing song! I wasn’t expecting that! I’ve been away from the channel for a while. I got the Hola when it was announced that there were being discontinued. The Gate looks more my speed.
Thanks goodness for the less bass. Neutralish IEMs are hard to come by. Gonna try and grab this one. Thank you for the review.
Honestly, I am buying it also because of the cable. I have a Hola, which I got from Amazon just before they completely ran out of stock. I really needed another cable, and I was very happy to see the same cable with the GATe. It will be a bonus if I like how the GATe sounds too.
Favorite cable is currently the Dunu SA6 even though I would prefer a lighter cable. Second favorite honestly might have been Treuthear Hexa, but considering people prefer the Hola cable, I'll bet the Gate will end up in top 2.
That looks like the same cable that is used on the Ziigaat NUO. I love it.
I knew you'd be happy about the cable!
And to be honest, I wondered about getting a pair myself, for that cable! I got the Hola at the very last time it was possible and could not believe how good the cable was! Much better than the cable of the Truthear Zero and Hexa.
Agreed.
I can say that Truthear should sell their cables alone, whether Hola or Zeroes, along with their pouches.
I'm not a guy that believe in cable rolling but there's one time I switched the cable on my Zero to another brand and the bass is noticably gone. I probably have to dig Hola's cable up again from the storage.
Nice review as usual!
the way the hola has a different cable just because the og cable is doing its duty somewhere else, on a significantly more expensive iem 🤣
I use nothing but my Hola cable on any IEM I am using. It is such a great cable. I can’t really understand why the Zero Red and Blue, and the Hexa, come with a cable that I consider worse. It just doesn’t make sense.
From what I gather, that looks like Blessing 2 or S8 cable lol.
A better cable than what you get for IEMs 10× + more expensive.
Nice cable with a decent iem🎉
Btw. Will you be reviewing Dita project M ?
Thanks Mr. Ryan. Will give it a try.
I ordered two more after recording this :P
@@SuperReview I’m growing a second set of ears so I can A/B with the HOLA. 😊
one for me?
Oh very nice, thank you 😅😇
Funny that you also like those Truthear cables as much as I do. 😄
Sure it doesn’t feel super premium but it‘s really light, behaves pretty good and has a working chin slider, as you mentioned.
I just can‘t get over those heavy „premium“ cables that don‘t have a proper chin slider, especially when on the go.
💯
Well Mark ya sold the hell out of it man. One of each color otw🫡
I'm hyped for hype from Mr. Super
Cheap cables and Koss headphones are the secret.
The way I look at Gate is you get a pretty good IEM for free when you buy the insane cable
Great review as always 🤌🏻. How would you compare this aganist zero-2 for female vocals.
always thought that Hola should have been like Gate as introduction to Hexa and even complement to Hexa for the cable or beat' iem
White pair is beautiful, got mine in today. The cable is white too! Perhaps the Chu 2 cable is dethroned 😂
help me out buddy Im really confused between zero 2 chu 2 and gate, I want want soundstage.. a bit neutral bright for music and games...
@@tekina4493 Get the Gate or Wan Er
So my question here the technical performance between gate and moondrop LAN are almost same?! That’s pretty good for a 20 USD iem giving on par to 35 USD iem
I agree with the cable comments you mention
This changed FR is actually much more interesting to me. I love buying random cheap IEMs every once in a while. I wasn't really that interested in the Hola since I already knew the more thick bass would not suit my preferences. The Gate is much more interesting to me.
Should I get this or the KZ ZSN PRO 2?
This Review Is Super!, huh yea, huh huh huh, yea
Fun fact, the case isn't magnetic, it's just 2 pieces of steel working kinda like a leaf spring.
Just in case someone was worried about putting it next to their credit cards.
I bought an oracle your description was on point : accurate that subass though ruined it for me
People assume the Gate is a downscaled Hola because Truthear was probably making pennies for each Hola sold.
The Hola build for less than 20 bucks was unreal.
Yeah Hola is like insane value set. The cable is also nice and even the eartips I ended up liking, and is what I use with my Hexa
Accessories were really good and far better than price point for sure! Although the build of the shell felt incredibly cheap and some people have some chipping and scratching issues from even small drops and daily use (I haven’t had this issue but eh, we are all different). The faceplate is great too though.
Guys, I think we found the Hola scalper/hoarder.
With it being out of production now, would you consider selling the spare sets if anyone's interested?
Thinking the same!!!
I also Lost the left bl03 earpiece if anyone has a spare 🙄
is the Truthear GATE better than Moondrop SSR in terms of sound?
the internal component pops more on the white gato
Truthear Gate or simgot ew100p, which one do u prefer? thanks
What the most suitable eartips for this one? Because the seal on original one was bad, and the process to put the tips are nightmare
It's gonna be personal,
Truthear's $20 iems are honestly the best in terms of comfort and accessories, more expensive offerings like hexa and zero are uncomfortable with wide nozzles and cable is thin and shitty 😂 but not the sound fortunately
9:48 Now please compare Gate with narrow bore tip vs Hola with wide bore tip.
Hey Mark, how would you say these are for vocals if I prefer the tuning on something like, let's say, the Hexas?
Any IEMs around $20-30 with a similar tuning at least when it comes to accurate tonality and clarity of vocals?
Thanks!
These are tuned pretty good for vocal content.
@@SuperReview Nice, thanks again Mark. Really enjoy the Hexas so far. Thanks for the recommendation on those. 👍🏼
are these better than hidizs ms1?
How compare 25$ kiwi ears Dolce?
Hi! can you do a review on Tangzu x HBB Xuan NV next? would be much appreciated :D
Is it a good first iem pick for someone that listens to rock music mainly?
Genre is not important.
wow the similarities between the gato and the lan FR’s makes me suspect they are using the same driver which is a pretty good driver!
Thanks i bought gate, actually pretty confused what to buy between chu2 or lan or gate
@@kloningankumain4802how do you like the Gate's so far?
I have the LANs and they sound like a classic neutral-bright IEM. Kind of similar to the original Chus with a little less air and less sibilance.
how's the mic on the mic variant? i want a new cable with a mic for my iene
Hey, I have the mic version of the Hola. The mic itself is pretty good, like for calls and stuff it performs as expected. But the buttons died like within a month of me buying it so thought I'd mention that.
@@Mayu7Bthank u, I've been looking for a decent mic'd cable
which one would you choose between tangzu waner and truthear gate
Gate, I'm not a big fan of Wan'er's treble.
To my ears the Gate and Hola are practically the same. Gate has slightly less bass and a little more clarity in details and separation. But to be honest, after 5 minutes of listening they are practically the same. On a 1-100% scale they are like 5% difference in bass and clarity. I did A/B testing with them on the same gear/songs/tips.
why isnt chu 2 in the comparison?
Lot of possible comparisons, Chu 2 just kinda forgettable apart from the build.
Hola build just looks like better quality. But the art plate made it look cheap. Not necessarily because of the art itself but it gives off this arts and craft vibes with the cheap looking plastic panel. Like someone cut out a piece with scissors from a plastic folder that somebody used in high school in 2011.
Let's goooo 4 stars. This cable is godly and I am still surprised they aren't selling it.
what do you mean. they did sell it with a gate 😂
@@recode8453 they aren't selling this cable separately
@@recode8453
Moondrop Chu : We sell the spring tips with an IEM.
Truthear Hola & Gate : We sell the cable with an IEM.
I'm actually wish they'll sell the pouch separately, though. That pouch is already worth like $5 or more alone.
Hola is GOAT, fr no cap
I feel kinda of special owning a Hola now. I think Truthear were almost making a lose on them with the 3D printed shell, good stock cable and the carry pouch, maybe even the cardboard for the eartips to sit on. Just that entire package was so good at the time. I think the Gate sadly is just a cheaper version now with a slightly updated tuning based on what people told Truthear about the Hola being warm sounding.
You are special.
compare with waner sg and zsn pro 2 !
I bought two white Gates just for the white cables 💀💀
Already got a 3 holas for the cables too
I must say though, I still really enjoy listening to the Hola, it’s crazy good for the price imo
Compared to gate, what do you prefer?
@@alexandersitepu6073 Hola is way better for build quality & co., but I slightly prefer the Gate in terms of sound
I sold the Hola after listening, it's too dark and bad in technicality to me. Seems like gate is a better one but it transparent design looks ugly 😅
the Gate or Fiio fd11
I'm shocked that truthear is including good cables, only with their cheapest iem
16$ for an amazing cable. Oh and it happens to come with a decent iem :0
Yep.
What iems would be best for movies/ series/ anime watching
I wanna get some good experience.
Please reply
Budget under 100 $
hows the cable bro? im only considering this because of its cable
watch the video to find out !
You sure got a lot of Holas. Would you like to give it away ?😚
normal people buy headphones to listen to music.. super reivews.. buys headphones for the cables that come with it..
I bought Moondrop May because it was a USB C DSP cable😂
Compare it with tangzu wan'er
I don't much care for the treble on Wan'er.
Cable farming 2.0 😂
Now I picture Minecraft Steve pick-axing cats for random Gato drops.
Plan on getting the zero, should i get the gate just for the cable too?
Comparison to Wan Er?
I don't really like Wan'er's treble.
I hate WAner bass. Lol. I love your reviews even though we have completely different tastes. Good to get another perspective. I want as much quality bass as I can get without mud or veiling details and a good soundstage. When you like all these things in a set but complain about too much bass, that's likely a set I'd like 😁
Waner soundstage is crap too. I don't get the hype.
Lost my Hola last week...💔
Pour one out 🍺
Shouty, poor bass quality, not impressed. Hola is still great.
completely disagree but you do you
@@1337wafflezz That's what I heard. Different tastes and ears. A few reviewers have said pretty much the same. Cleaner certainly that Hola, but more wrong with it overall.
