    I'm new to your channel Matt and enjoying it very much. I have been sea fishing for about 40 years but there's always something to learn. I've been away from it for a couple of years but itching to get back to it now. Particularly interested in the bass lure fishing content as although I've had some good success over the years with bait fishing for bass, I've neglected the lures. Like many, this time of the year is a struggle for fishing in my area (Hampshire/Solent), so wishing the time away somewhat at the moment !. Keep up the good work.

      @SaltwaterAngler  Před rokem

      Thanks , yes we are all waiting for spring really. Normally that first peeler crab moult should be happening any time now ( seems to get earlier each year) - you should be able to get year round bass in your area but it won’t be long until the real fun begins on the lures

    Cool, you might want to keep rods in their own bags in the quiver. That will protect the rings and keep them in good nick. Glad to see you've got rid of that abomination with the broken tip. Another great vid.

    I love this video, it's so helpful.
    It's been years since I was fishing. I fell out of love with it, but motivated to restart. I'm from Kent. I'm looking at a new rod, you suggest upto 6 oz, I'm considering 8oz as I might fish dungeness which I remember being quite intense, so not sure if 6oz will be OK?? A penn tidal XR with matching reel comes to mind. I'm also starting lure/float fishing and have everything I need for that.
    Please let me know your thoughts, and thanks again for your videos, your lagoon video was awesome too 👍

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Yes with rod ratings a 6oz will still cast an 8oz at a push just needs to be a slower cast.Remember grip leads and rig choice also help keep a lead on the bottom.
      Pretty extreme conditions if using and 8 oz. I’d consider continental rods for 90% of south coast beach fishing.

    I went second time fishing since I was a child and i was going with my grandfather. I bought Shimano TX1 about £30 i think its carp rod and a massive Shimano Reel about £70. I spooled the first time some 15lb carp line Korda mono. When I was casting 100-gram weight the one that is for distance casting. It snapped and I heard the lead going fsssss near my ear somewhere.
    For my second trip I bought 20-something lb Daiwa J Braid x4 dark green. In addition, I bought the sea rigs that you showed. I do not know how it happened but when I was pulling the line, I saw a massive knot on the braid. Took a while to sort it out. I managed to do one very good cast, the feeling is very nice once you get it right.
    I am looking now to get a proper surf rod and reel. Do you know where, is the best spot to catch some big fish from beach or pier or sea wall in the area between Portsmouth and Dover? The first time I got 6 dogfish from the seawall Samphire Hoe. Delicious fish but nightmare to clean the skin, I used pliers… The second time I did not catch anything on West Arm the Marina in Brighton.
    BTW Great videos!

      Have fun! Having lived in land in my teens and keen to fish the sea i know how this feels ! I must admit i do scan facebook for the area your intending to fish. I also have a back catalogue of sea angler mark guides to reference too. Another way is to phone Bognor's sea fishing tackle shop and ask for a good beginners mark. That area might see a few smoothound in Spring, the first small bass and a chance of Plaice too. All depends on tides and conditions - Historically not the best time of year - But things are starting to pick up. Let us know how you get A quick search found this group - not sure how good it is

      @SaltwaterAngler  Před 8 měsíci

      Horses for courses 7oz can be the ideal weight in some strong currents. As a casting weight it is a bit heavy and needs good technique to cast well. 5oz generally a sweet spot for most beach rods. But a decent traditional shore rod from brands like conoflex, Daiwa and the re introduced zziplex will have no problems with 5-6 oz Depends where you are fishing do you actually need 7 oz. Rig design can also help
