- Oregon has been shutting down small farms and market gardens in a pretty aggressive manner. They're even resorting to sending out cease and desist letters to these farms, using satellite tech to track them down first. Their justification? Water conservation and protecting groundwater. They're wielding two laws in particular to make this happen.

I grew up in Oregon, I find it very strange that Oregon never had a problem with water until the Californias relocated themselves and their froot-loop agendas to Oregon. Monsanto wanted all backyard gardens made illegal. The courts ruled against Monsanto yet they still found a backway in. Target the little guys go after their water. When will the elite just leave everyone alone ? How could America gone so wrong? I remember my mom telling me that some of the big farms in Arizona were told to till in their crops.I have no doubt.Our Government has their hands in more than we should have allowed. We aren't so far under that we can't fight back.But,we can't let someone else do it. Another complication is that there is a hefty property tax and minimum size limitation for Rural land to prevent large residential ranches. To balance that for farmers, there is an agricultural exemption. If these farms loose there agricultural exemption, the state is going to have a windfall in property tax income that these small farms will not be able to pay without selling their land.

Meanwhile... Here in Arizona, a large Saudi company is allowed to use millions of gallons of groundwater to grow alfalfa that's sent back to Saudi Arabia. They grow it here because even with the shipping costs, it's cheaper to grow alfalfa in Arizona than in Saudi Arabia. Politicians don't give a damn about the environment or their constituents. I live in Oregon and I never heard about this. Oregon is big on environmentalism but they are not unreasonable regarding farms. People rarely use ground water here, We mainly use water from mountain lakes and rivers. I will have to look into this. We have plenty of water except for the extreme SW corner of the state.
There's several rivers in the SW corner of the state - Rogue, Illinois, Smith. I'm curious, where are you referring to exactly? And unfortunately, there were many pot farmers draining residential wells for water to grow their crops. And they used quite a bit of water for those crops. But hey, it was the governments idiotic idea to legalize it.

The problem is that large investment corporations, with interest to the government have bought up the mineral rights that are under your property and that includes water.
There's no way all of the new regulations fit under the 1909 law. The amount of technology and changes in growth of the population should have caused the 1909 law to no longer fit the situation. It's not surprising though that they're using such an antiquated law as they're trying to argue the gun control restrictions back in by stating that it should only cover firearms that were built prior to 1859 which is when Oregon's Constitution was written. If that's the case and they actually win in the 1909 law would no longer be allowed because we would have to go back to 1856 and I have a feeling there weren't any water restrictions at all then.
The majority of these farms are in Eastern Oregon. They recently voted to disassociate with Oregon and become a part of Idaho. This is tyrannical retaliation.
Everybody needs to dive into what's happening in their own states. Most regulation we don't hear about until it's on us. This is part of a larger agenda. It's about control. People in Oregon need to bring up lawsuits.

When I had a dairy in Oregon, 40 years ago, the average dairy milked 65 cows. Today, one of the largest I know of milks about 30,000 cows. Small dairies take better care of their cows. Each cow is important. On big dairies, a cow is just a number. Many don't live thru 2 milking cycles. Look up the statistics yourself. Since 2017 120 small dairies closed.
I thought the responsible thing was to "Buy Local". These people can't even get their own priorities straight.

Targeting small scale farmers means the big corporate outfits get the benefit after they are gone. Win WIN. They do not want the little guy down they want you GONE.
I can give you some examples that correlate to this. First off, I grew up with a father who was in charge of the 11 western states for meat and poultry. He knew this business from the inside. So what did he tell me? This; Jim he said, the big meat packers can't compete with certain areas of the country due to shipping costs and some other related costs when it comes to breaking into local markets. That is, local meat producers could provide meats for a much lower cost. Thus keeping the big guys from making any headway into those local markets. The answer? The big meat producers went to Washington D.C. and lobbied ( ie, bought off congress) to pass a number of new 'safety' rules when it comes to the handling of meat and poultry. These new rules were just like what happened to your local gas station owner who couldn't afford all the new laws regarding the environmental 'improvements' put in place on them either by the big oil companies. That's why gas is like two cents different between stations in your local. See, this is how it works. Big powerful companies will go to the government with a suitcase full of cash having them pass laws that run small businesses out of business. Oh, it'll be coined as being done for the public's safety or some other do-gooder purpose. But in the end it's all about competition and running off the independent suppliers. Check out any segment of our society and you'll see this repeating. Over and over again.

If they own the rain that should make them liable for any damage their rain does, if your property damages someone else's property then you are liable, flooding, erosion, even water damage in your home, it's all "their" rain.

Just looking at the way animals are so abused in these huge factory farms makes my blood boil . And makes me cry at the same time . These dairy cows deserve to be treated in a fair and just and loving manner . They are just as important as humans . many and more Smaller farms can and do treat their animals with respect love and kindness and care . When we cannot even choose to do this , it is not only hurting the poor animals , but also hurting humankind . This is all bassakwards policy . This is not doing for the people or by the people or of the people . Its doing quite the opposite . Time to come together to stop more of these horrific factory farms polluting the water ., air , land and Abusing sentient beings . Stand up for our rights to be free in America .
I started going to an Orthodox Church. They fast over 200 days a year by eating mostly vegan and abstaining from olive oil and alcohol. I didn’t think I could do it! Now, I feel happier knowing I don’t have to contribute to any animal cruelty or the monstrous agri-businesses. I’m still eating healthy.

Desalinization is very expensive. We are running low on fresh water. Large farms produce the most waste and pollution. They are not water efficient. Small organic farms are better for the environment.
