So me, a Michigan alum and lifelong lover of Michigan football told this former player how good the book was and let him read it. On the day I was transferring to NYC (from Chicago) I said goodbye to him and asked for my book back.

Best coach ND ever had, bar none.
Holtz got on my radar with the bowl win over Oklahoma. Before this clip even mentioned the names I remembered Calcagni, and Sales. Didn't realize Arkansas let him go, though. I thought Holtz left them for Minnesota. But I remember him turning Minnesota around (by Minnesota standards anyway). If I remember right, I think Tony Dungy was his QB. Anyway, I was telling all my fellow ND fans to watch this guy 'cuz he's the real deal. ND was coming off a down period under Gerry Faust. After the one point loss to Michigan at home the ND fans gave the team and Holtz a standing ovation, which is something for ND fans. General protocol is lose a game or don't win by enough and ND fans want to bench the QB, fire the HC and hang the leprechuan. I just knew he was gonna be great.

Alabama and Bear Bryant beat Holtz’s Arkansas team in the sugar bowl pretty bad one year and during the postgame midfield coaches handshake Bryant told Holtz that’s the best our team has played in 5 years. To which Holtz responded well I’m happy I was here to see it. Lol! Also he talked of being beaten barely by Earl Campbell and Texas to which he was very upset with his players not doing a good job tackling Campbell. Then the next year Holtz witnessed Campbell playing in the NFL on sundays and decided to tell all his defensive players that were still on the team from the previous year that they’d done a great job tackling Earl Campbell! LMAO

  • @jamesharris6578

Please tell Lou Holtz there are 13 musical notes, not 7. Seriously, though, this is good stuff. But even Holtz gets his facts wrong: He sujspended three players team before the Orange Bowl blaming their breaking his "Do Right Rule," but the woman who made assault allegations was found in court to have fabricated her charges. Holtz was judge and jury before it was adjudicated. He also says the last time Arkansas played OU they'd lost 108-0 and that was untrue; that was 1918 as WWI was still going on and the very next year Arkansas beat OU 7-6, and OU left the SWC right after that.
But his talent at motivating and designing offenses was unmatched at the time. His story about how he convinced the remaining players how they could win that Orange Bowl is fantastic.

Leave politics especially mention of dangerous egomaniacal reality stars out of this. Mountains of evidence on top of his vulgar, dangerous followers yet the extreme right can’t see what the rest of the country does. Get an actual human to worship.

@@arrowguy173you are deranged and tells me you are a liberal which the opposite of lou and his philosophy. Lou’s philosophy is a conservative maybe trump comes off harsh with his approach but there is a deeper issue with corruption going on so yes being hard and harsh is warranted in todays politics

Notre Dame fired him because he was pressing hard for allowing 5 star high schooler football recruits majoring in “RUG HOOKING” to be admitted to academic focused Notre Dame. He had a clause in his contract with his Big Ten school head coaching position that permitted him to leave with no fault if Notre Dame should ever offer him the head coaching job there. Why would he ever have resigned from coaching the Irish after all his success and winning a Natty Championship? Simple, Holtz DID NOT RESIGN from coaching the Irish and no one can prove it, NO ONE.
He had a medical leave for neck surgery, missed two games that his assistant, Davie, stood in for him and won both games. The players loved not getting chewed out for their miscues and not having Holtz yanking on their face masks. That was the end for Holtz at ND.
